I have much respect for your words, Father Fish. I want to say something about aquascaping. We are going to look at our aquarium, day in and day out. But if we have an aquarium that looks like a patch under the river bank, it makes us feel like we're a corpse under water. I always try to give my fish a sense of places to go to, hence making the scape feel like 50 sq metres instead of a few square feet. We don't have to be expert, just start with whatever, the way you want your sand, slope or what, and then start with a rock and go on from there.. Give the fishes a sense of places to visit, instead of going round a patch of weeds. Good luck. Edit : Also, I'd like to tell you that I've been using drift wood, balancing on the edges of the glass, on top of the water, then I use hair moss and some small leaf plants. Decor on top, with the plants and moss also helping the quality of the water. If you have a straight piece of driftwood, let it stand upright, and use hair moss to go round the wood, near the surface, and trim it from time to time. It looks like a tree. Of course add what small leaf house plants, or types of weed you find in your garden. Decor on top, that's the rage right now.

what a project! i am a fan of those plastic tubs, but i don't use the large size. i go from 4 gal-12 gal and i also use the shoe box size for bettas. i notice the Hefty brand tubs are stronger than the Sterilite brand and don't deform as much by water weight. i noticed you have the ''Muscle'' brand shelving racks that come with MDF composition shelves. looks like you painted yours black. i painted mine to try and keep them waterproof, but standing water still causes swelling of the material. i plan to switch them out for 3/4'' plywood. you are an inspiration for taking on such a large project when you could be taking it easy at home!

Hi father fish, when going for natural tank I would recommend start making own phytoplankton culture for dosing into the tank. It will make a major diffrence of stabalizing the tank

When i berly began this journy you told me to go ahead and just put sand over my gravel... i did and my tank is so amazing now,but i have been thinking if i should redo it,take all the gravel out and replace it with soil, then recap it again with new sand. Is it worth it or should i just leave it as is?

I need help, i tried to set up a pond outdoors, using the father fish method -- used and inch of potting soil and 2 inch beach sand, I've then added a lot of aquatic plants which are growing very well, i added guppies around a week after the set up but they've been dying one by one, i really don't understand what went wrong, for now I've removed the remaining alive guppies out of the pond set up, i live in a tropical country with hot climate, and I don't see any issue with the water quality as it was crystal clear, i wasn't over feeding them either, i really don't know where I went wrong

I saw a neat idea on another channel earlier today: A shop owner had a multi-tiered tank solely for his aquarium plants & they were sorted by height. While he had the space for it, others might not, but what was handy was people being able to see how big the plants get so they can choose accordingly for their tank size.
