    That metal insert is definitely the key to a good slip float! Very informative, thanks for sharing.

    Great informational video Carl. I have often wondered about targeting whitefish outside of ice season and this is extremely helpful info. Thanks for sharing. Tight lines!

    Really nice presentation...I live on the Yellowstone River in Montana and catch a number of whitefish every season but have never pursued them specifically...that said, I was given some smoked whitefish a few days ago and was really impressed with them...now, I'm going to try and figure out how to catch them and your video has got me going in the correct direction....Thanks...

    Enjoyed your presentation and have been considering using slip floats for whitefish. We ice fish them, spring fish them as soon as the ice goes out and fall fish them when they bunch up to spawn. My favorite way to prepare them is to can them like you do and make whitefish sandwiches the same way I would make a tuna fish sandwich.

    • @CarlOutside
      @CarlOutside  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes exactly!! Whitefish "salad" with some onions, black pepper and celery on some good sour dough, so good. Slip floating for them is a ton of fun, I hope you get into them this spring, Good Luck, and thanks for watching

    Thanks, Carl! Hello from Oregon where we have mountain whitefish, which is a different species, but whitefish nonetheless. Here I use high-low rig with flies, and I catch considerable amounts of whitefish. It's not as cool as long rod, but it allows me to reach 30-50 feet down.
    Cheers!

      @@CarlOutside well, whitefish is a salmonid, so flies are natural bait for them

    This was a great video, I have a few questions If you don't mind: what water temps in the fall are you looking for in those bays specifically for whitefish? How deep are they usually? Are these fish sticking to bottom or suspended? Excellent explanation of your setup and what you're doing.

    • @CarlOutside
      @CarlOutside  Před rokem

      Water temps will be in the high 50's F and cooler, the bays we target have large cabbage/weed beds in the shallows with fairly quick access to deep water and soft bottoms. The fish can be through out the water column but "generally" within a few feet of bottom, but can be higher for sure. Hope this helps

    Are the white fish the same as silver bass?

    • @CarlOutside
      @CarlOutside  Před rokem

      No, Whitefish are more like big Ciscos or Herring, not spiney finned like the Bass, Thanks for watching

      @@CarlOutside i have fished in northern ontario for 36 years, chapleau area. i have seen people catch them in early june on mepps spinners. canadians tell me you should be here in october. they are so think you can net them with a hand fishing net.one other fish that is good canned is white suckers. make fish patties out of them. fry in pan, very good.
