I like that Bill Maher talks about topics that most people are afraid to discuss. He is blunt. He is direct. He is also super smart.
There's _plenty_ I disagree with Bill on. I think on some cultural things he's an old man set in his ways who doesn't realize his own lack of knowledge on certain topics. Despite that....I really like him and find him super valuable in the discourse. I don't need to agree with anyone 100% of the time to respect them. I disagree, my wife and I used to watch it, it was great bad TV. Never thought I was watching a future President though.
I actually like the first part of the first season. When the main goal of the show was to pit everyone against each other, it was a turn off, but this set the stage of how people treat each other today. MAGA politics became a spitting image of that show.

I agree with Bill that diversity strengths us but within reason. There are certain people we should be allowed to hate if they are toxic (engaged in unprovoked murder, kidnappings, sexual abuse, other forms of abuse, and genocide) and if they threaten the state our democracy and the basic American values we all share. I don't hate every Trump supporter unless they attack me for my beliefs and want me to accept their beliefs. I always say respect is earned but you never have to accept someone's beliefs because agreeing with everyone is people-pleasing. People who earn respect deserve kindness, love, and equal rights. People who take advantage of others without showing any form of remorse and continue to do things despite asking people to stop deserve to be treated like garbage because "you get what's coming at you" and "if the shoe fits, wear it" and "we must call a spade a spade".

This is why I love Bill. And I am an right leaning libertarian/conservative type. I just love him even if I don't always have to agree with him. I get him, he gets me, and I think I enjoy co-existing with him. We represent all of America and it's nuance. After all, conservative and liberal ideas - even if competing - are equally American, inherently. We need to get back to that understanding. Even as an conservative, I see America as an progressive experiment in which it's citizens free themselves over time. I like Trump, but he's just a guy. Beyond this person, there's a lot to agree upon. We have to get back to a place where we love being Americans again, even if we have our disagreements from time to time on how best to manage our country and help our fellow citizens that we share an planet with. I just want both sides to at least have the same goal of wanting to help their fellow citizen, first and foremost, regardless if there's a debate about how to get there.

But most of his fans read books for short bursts of entertainment. As much as I appreciate differentiation, opening up dialogue, mutual respect of differences etc, I'm very concerned about Maher's "there are bad people on both sides" argument at this point in time. Radical left wing Democrats may be foolish in some matters, but they simply aren't as dangerous as radical MAGA Republicans. The urgency of this fact can't be stressed enough.
I love bill maher as he mirror’s my political view. He did specifically say he is more concerned about the far right than the far left. He is right to criticize the far left since they are driving the moderate democrats over to the right.

They also endanger future elections with ridiculous tropes about defunding the police and pro Hamas/anti-Israel ideology.....stances which drive centrists--the MAJORITY OF THE COUNTRY--away in monstrous droves. There is no compromise with the extreme left; you're either with them on EVERYTHING or they're 100% against you.
So no, many Democrats DON'T fall in line. Many Republicans didn't and still don't like Trump, but by holding their noses and voting for him, they were rewarded with 3 conservative SC justices. And the vast majority of Republicans who don't like him will vote for him again.

But what is happening is that most people have different values and definitions of words and goals. Bill has a flawed understanding of republicans and democrats and their voters. Democrats have always been a party of forcing others to do work for them. Republicans have always been doing work for yourself and promoting individuality. The mission statement and the whole point of being a Democrat is to fall in line, be polarized, and form groups of mobs to tax and take from the guys/gals who produce. You can easily control and manipulate Democrat voters if you offer them free stuff that someone else produced. Which is why Democrat Leaders have always been the more corrupt; the Democrat party offers their leadership positions to men and women who wholly believe in creating policy, police, military, and force that goes around taking stuff from the producers and giving it to the lifetime-slums via gov't.
