I’d like to post here for anyone like myself that bought the Titon base on this recommendation - the camera will ~absolutely~ not run for 8 hours powering the Atomos. I spent $400 on this because I thought it would keep me going all day and I just barely eked out Three hours leaving it idle on a table.
@@mr.croissant7960 for the price, I’ve been very satisfied with the FX Lion Nano as an alternative. Portability will vary depending on capacity, but it hasn’t let me down yet.
I was wondering how that would be possible. Even just internally recording, the power draw would have to be so low - I wonder what the run time is for internal recording
@that_teldine_guy you're right! I bought the titon base too thinking that I could run the portkeys lh5pii and the fx3 for 8-9 hours. Was shocked to see 3.5hrs when it was powering them both! :(
I was running the fx3 with a base kit and USB-C for about a year. I switched to the Kondor dummy battery because I noticed my USB port on camera getting a bit… flimsy. In hindsight I think having a USB cable sticking out if the camera without a lock or cage support is a big liability. If you accidentally knock the cable you could easily break the cable in the port, or worse break the port all together. Thanks for sharing your rig
I have literally bought this rig system for the Sony Fx3! This to me hands down, is the best system to use. I could find an alternative on youtube, with the XLR module still in tact. Thank you for the setup Armando! Happy new year to you too! 👍🏿
Be careful what you wish for, I trained with the world champion of Street Fighter who also was a car enthusiast and built my engine on my Honda back in 2000
@@mondobytes This will make the matchup that much sweeter! I've played a lot of the great SF players way back in the late 90's/early 2000's and was top 10 on the old XBand network where many of them played.
I run something similar to this for power delivery to my A7SIII on long shoots. I’m actually just using some 10,000mah Anker PD bricks. They keep the battery topped off through usb-c/PD. Works great actually. The only other thing I’d like to point out (which should be obvious) is that if you expire the Anton Bauer and the internal, you’re gonna have to swap the internal also when you swap the AB. A dead internal and fresh AB battery won’t get you anywhere. Great video Armando.
Thanks for this video. I bought an fx3, but as a beginner in this space I had no clue how to build-out a good setup which fit my needs. This minimalist setup is fantastic. I purchased all of the components (using as many affiliate links as possible) and just got it configured. I'm very pleased with everything. You're right, everything is well thought out. I also added a Sennheiser 416 for better audio. Can't wait to put it to use!
the ending was like disassembling weapons .. and i really love the idea of using usb cable for the battery.. kind scared if the method overheat the camera tho (since im not using fx3)
agree! i quite feared with dummy battery since my friend fried his camera due a wrong input voltage! so up until now i zip ties my powerbank to my rig setup lol
I love the Anton Bauer battery, I like to rotate it so the USB plug is on the left side, and I can use a shorty USB C cable to plug into the camera, it also allows for a better grip on the battery with your hand to cradle.
Thank you for sharing and breaking down your FX3 setup. I appreciate the efficiency of this rig. Only thing I might try and get is a right angle HDMI. Love the battery setup and the trickle charge concept, very clever.
This is an awesome tech channel. Thank 😊you for posting this video. This is very helpful 🙂. Is there a camara 📷. That you would recommend. That is not 3 thousands 😑 dollars. Say like $500 - $700 dollars 💵. I have a smaller budget 😅. Since I'm a retired man..
Fab setup, the extension of the handle in deed changes everything. And unlike other FX3 cages (e.g 8Sinn) this obvioulsy also works with third party lenses, e.g. Sigma.
That breakdown at the end was amazing! I still prefer shooting with rails and a shoulder mount (my favorite kind of hand-held) but man, this setup is making me rethink some things.
Question - I've always thought the power draw of the Ninja V to be around 15 - 20Wh per hour. The Anton Bauer battery is only 68Wh. How does it power both the Ninja V and the camera for 8-9 hours?
I am also going through lot of confusion.. and most youtubers dont show they charge monitor and camera at the same time(they dont usually turn it on).. In this case it will last for 8-9hrs by keeping everything off for 4-5 hrs..
This was super cool but we just made a 5 inch tall camera 2ft 😩. Is there anyway yo have the screen right on top and still get audio? And if not is the A7siii still the way to go?
I watched this video when it first came out, loved the set up and ordered the camera and accesories from Kondor-Blue,..Is December and I am still waiting on some of those accesories..
Armando, I’m sold. However, I have just one question: What if I want to incorporate a transmitter? Can you make a video of the FX-3 incorporating a transmitter for a church setting please? Adios!😊🙈
Hey Armando, great video, but I think you might be confused with how the camera uses USB-C charging. The internal battery only gets charged when the camera is off. When the camera is on it's powering from the USB-C port and you should have a little plug icon next to the battery meter on the screen indicating this. This is even stated in the manual: "As long as the power is on, the battery pack will not be charged even if the camera is connected to the AC Adaptor, etc. Under certain conditions, power may be supplied from the battery pack supplementarily even if you are using the AC adaptor, etc." What I think is happening in your case is, since the USB-A port on the Bauer only provides 9V/3A output and the internal battery never drains.
@@propellavideo I just bough the base and yes, it does charge via a USB a to USB c cable.. Check your cable is correct, for some reason I believe some cables do not transmit power correctly (only data).
I'm curious what you think about FX3 right now. I've been holding off to save up and I was going to go with the A7S3 before I discovered the FX3. I've been shooting on a 6600s for the last 3 years. I thought the A7S3 would be a good match with these since they have the same color science. But then now that I've saved up I'm like I wonder if I should wait for what's going to come out next. I'm assuming it's been so long surely Sony will come out with a replacement for the FX3 sooner than later like maybe even this March. And then there's the Lumix that comes in at a great price point but may have moire and focus issues compared to the Sonys. But I could get two of those Lumix s5iix for like the price of one FX3 almost. Surely somebody will come out with something to compete with Panasonic. The ZVE1 is in the same price bracket and new but seems more consumer driven. The open gate and 6K on the Lumix with all those format options and outstanding stabilization is so attractive.
Recently bought the base plate. Few issues: 1, the USB A to C 'trickle down' power charge just doesn't work. You can't change the battery in the camera off the base plate via USB A to C. Secondly; it's 2022 and there's no USB c on the Titan plate. If there was you'd had a better charging option. 2) it spins! Over time it will come loose and line up with the camera body 4) You'll need a riser or something, other wise the base plate with hit the tightening on any tripod.
You must be using a cable with low voltage, I recommend you use a USB 3.1 cable for faster charging that will also charge with camera off. I agree on the lack of USB C this is a problem with most filmmaking gear still, the industry needs to change. Never had mine spin, maybe tighten harder, also no issue with tripod. I use the Sachtler Flowtech and works just fine, this could be the tripod you're using.
@@mondobytes great to hear from you. I’ll check out the cable; tried it with and without the camera turned on and still no power to the camera. (Perhaps you’re right about the cable) the ‘spin’ isn’t on the tripod, just after frequent use… scared to death of tightening it ‘too much’ and breaking it.
