  • This is how I have organised my Myford ML7 Lathe with some sheet metal design, Off the shelf bits and some custom work.
A wood DIY shelf works fine! an old filing cabinet works fine! This is just what i have done.

Some inspirational thoughts, which I desperately need, as I have yet to perfect my own tool storage behind my Myford Super 7. Thank you for sharing 👏👏👍😀

Thanks for the video. I've had a Super 7 for a lot of years but, for a variety of reasons, I'm only now getting into use and increasing the tooling. Very nice to see that Optical Engineer also follows your channel, his videos are also a great help to me, and I appreciate the care and attention to detail you both demonstrate.

Good job, looks good. I enjoy setting up and organising my machine the way I want it too. It does irritate me when people say “oh you should do this or that”. I share what I’m doing in case it’s useful to someone who has a similar approach or needs. Keep doing your thing!

Hi from South Africa James ! I have just acquired my first lathe, an ML Super 7 B . I am fortunate to have access to laser cutting and CNC bending, and shall be designing something very much inspired by your design - thank you so much for sharing your great ideas and hard work.
I spoilt myself with a brand new Myord QC tool post, so your design is all the more relevant to me.

Very nice, I've still to set my tooling up behind my lathe, I do mainly model engineering. The last project was a battery loco for my sons 6th birthday, it was built in under 6 weeks on an ML7, which I had to reassemble and put into service over a weekend. After I broke my ML4. I have a pin board behind my lathe, so that drawing, conversion tables can be pinned up. There is room for a wooden shelf which will have holes drilled for the live centres, dead centres, tailstock chucks and chuck keys, and other tools behind the lathe. The selection of tooling I'll be having behind the lathe is much as you have, so I think you have that right, though I don't have the quick change toolpost, I may attempt to make one in the future, but it works currently with HSS and shims in a four way toolpost. I have the myford cabinet for mine, and yes they don't store everything you want. Mine has a door on it, (which once did its best to hurt my foot, and tripped me to the floor). The box section you have under the lathe is perfectly fine, just weld a piece of angle on each end and shape, make some hex, or knurled adjusting screws for leveling, and use threaded M8 bar to bolt down to the cabinet. Which is nicely laid out by the way!

@@AnchorDesigns the loco I describe, there's a video on my channel showing it running. Currently on with a 2" Scale Durham and North Yorkshire traction engine. Also have a 3.1/2" gauge Black 5, and a Jinty. Takes a lot of time to do good videos, so I don't post that many. Do like the tri-lever but I think I'd go with a super 7 with powered cross feed. IF I ever had the money for one. I do have a nice little lathe, it's a super adept. Great little thing, and is capable of still making things, despite its small size. (About the length of your cross slide for the whole length of the adept lathe)

@@jcameron2554 I’ll check it out, and I have a super adept! A nice little thing. I can’t imagine doing Anything larger than 1/4 size with it though. Or using it to be honest 😆

Love how you don’t dictate to others but share the thought process and evolution of ideas.

hi James cracking videos mate ... im new to lathes and im picking my tri leva up on sunday along with a load of other stuff the guy is giving me .. is there any chance you could do a small video on the workings of the lathe ? i have looked everywhere for a video on how the lathe works ie what all the levers do .. i used lathes at school many years ago and im familiar with most of the tri leva but there are some things that have me stumped like the back gear, speeds, engaging the half nut and operating the gearbox .. i don't know if the guy has a manual so any help would be greatly appreciated ..
