I was born in Harlan although my family left when I was young and settled in Corbin where I grew up. What you said about portal 31 refusing you to video inside really interested me so I did some research and found out that the coal mining museum is run by the same people, so I'm sure they won't allow videoing in there and that's the problem, they refuse free advertising and say they can't afford to advertise themselves. your video I'm watching right now has well over 10,000 views and looks like they're still climbing but yet they refused the free advertising a video on the coal mining museum and Portal 31 would bring in, I know they have problems with an advertising budget but they're turning away free advertising. It makes me wonder what the thinking process is of people who won't advertise something themselves and refuse free advertising for it. Benham Lynch and Cumberland could be like Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg but the powers that be just refuses to help it happen and that sir is my humble opinion.
The implement she was sitting on with the barrel is a tobacco transplanter. Two people sat on the seats and placed plants by hand. The barrel held water for the plants. One person sat on top of the barrel and drove the horses or mules.
First piece of equipment was a roof bolter, large piece was Joy loader and the one with the seats is a tobacco setter.
Lots of memories for me in Benham, especially at what is now the theatre. During the late 50’s through the 60’s it was the Benham Youth Center. Teens from all over the county, mostly the tri cities, poured in to dance to the latest rock and roll records. Seems like it was open 3 nights a week. THE spot to dance and “court”. Great video.
I’m
Thanks Craig!
Thank you for the tour of Benham ky. It's crazy how many people migrated from ky to mi to work in the auto industry. That's how I ended up in Michigan, my grand parents migrated from Benton ky to mi and the other grandparents came from Alabama. I spent many summers as a kid in Kentucky. Miss those hills of Kentucky in the background, feels like home. I see it's nice and warm there we have 4" of snow on the ground this morning brrrr. Thanks again
Thanks for watching we appreciate it
Y’all definitely need to do a sit down interview with that old gentleman! 92 yrs I bet he has some stories.
That yellow-flowered plant is Forsythia. Early spring flowering plant. Beautiful.
I was born in the Benham hospital 😊 I lived in Cumberland until my family moved to Indiana .Keep the videos coming I love watching them .Be Safe and Thank you !!

Definitely a tobacco planter. I spent hundreds of hours on the back end of one in Wisconsin. Loved my tobacco!
My aunt was a teacher at a one room school in Benham.

Awesome video Coyote's! That piece with the barrel and seat is a old horse drawn drag style tobacco setter! We used one converted to pull with a tractor when I was a boy. Benham sure is a beautiful place with great history! Thanks for sharing it with us!👍
Thanks for watching Mitch, we appreciate it!
Thanks for the pics
Thing a ma bob is definitely a planter used to put in various crops that are plants vs a seeder. Up north we use one for planting tomato plants started from seed in a green house. The planter would have water mixed with plant food in the barrel and the person handling the horses would sit on top. As the planter went down the row, the planter would open the ground and then a squirt of water would go in. One of the two riders would put in a plant and hold it up until the two wheels behind the plow would vover the plant. The people handling the plants would alternate placing in the plant. If you missed your turn chances are you would be quickly replaced as there were plenty of unemployed people waiting for the job
Thanks for a great video. Always seems like I learn a few things with every video you all do. The mining museum looks like a great place to visit!
Glad you enjoyed it CL

I would enjoy a tour of Foumile.
Are you talking about fouMile in Bell County or old fouMile in Harlan County that they call Keith now
Four mile in Bell County. I attended the school ... Lone Jack we were the Mustangs. The name Lone Jack represented a lonely mule thriving in a large field. As a child our family lived in a former coal camp in the early 60's. Our father was a coal miner . This small community suffered from a well known mine explosion leaving 20 of 24 men entombed in the Straight Creek coal
Keep up the good work love your video's from Vermont
Glad you like them!
Hey girl! Not a whole lot going on down there huh? My mother and her family are from Harlam County--we visited once a year thru the 70s. My cousins and Aunt June Kirby lived in a little house across the street from Lynch High School. Alan Maggard of Maggard Sound Inc Big Stone Gap Virginia is my first cousin.
I really enjoy y'all's videos

Harlan Co. coal miner strike in the 70s that's another story . my grandfather was a miner .International Harvester built the mining equipment . Coal and the miners built Beham.
What brand is the loader?
Fine looking woman,
🔥🔥🔥🔥🎯💯
Know I had family that worked in that mine
❤
I think the thang of a bob is a tobacco planter
Planter! People sit on back!
🎉
You left harlen alive lol 🇺🇸👍
Are there still any working coal mines in that area? Folks, America still needs coal. My father was a coalminer in the UK.
There's coal mines in Harlan County but I'm not sure how close they are to Benham
@@IgnitedCoyote Many thanks! Stay safe and well. Cheers -- W
Is that a pager?
Wow! Pagers, I remember when almost everybody had one, but I think you're talking about her microphone transmitter, it looks quite a bit like a pager now that you mentioned it.
❤❤always fun exciting traveling with you!
Give the people there jobs back.
I like the curves 😂
Planter
Well I will say that I wasn't born there never been anywhere near a coalmine don't know the first thing about it but I've been through Kentucky and west Virginia and surrounding states just saying 😂😂😂
You can't bring coal back if there is no one using it like they did before I work in a mine we have more setting around then we can sell
So this is the part of Kentucky that Hollywood has never been even though they made money off of Harlan County in Hollywood.
Why Are Comments Being Deleted!!!!
We hardly ever have to delete a comment CZcams usually takes care of the inappropriate comments themselves by never releasing them to the public. Of course occasionally people remove their own comment for whatever reason.
