You should play the sections you’re commenting on! Would make this much easier to comprehend for noobs like me (as it stands, I’d almost rather just read your words so I can listen to the section at the same time). I am all for a second or third part! It would be fantastic to finally see somebody do a song-by-song analysis of SMiLE, especially focusing on how the different songs and modules interconnect like a 3-dimensional sonic jigsaw puzzle lol. Bonus points to discuss the songs in order of when they were written/recorded so we can get a better idea of Brian’s musical trajectory during that period.

Possibly the greatest song of all time. Certainly one of the most moving. Makes me cry, every listen.

Thanks for the video! I just want to say thank you Naete for your amazing content. I’m pretty young and have been a Beach Boys and Brian Wilson fan for a while and ever since I saw your Smile video I have watched most(if not all)of your videos and they are what got me listening to classical music and have sparked my interest in learning music theory(something that I have previously abhorred)and learn how to compose music myself, in fact I have recently started work on my own music more, and soon I’m planning to actually release it, and I probably wouldn’t have ever done any of that if it wasn’t for you, so thanks for all the amazing content and keep up the good work!

I love your channel. You do a great job. Here is a suggestion of an artist you could talked about : Elliott Smith

Wonderful. I would enjoy hearing your take on the BBs "Shortenin' Bread". (The good unreleased version from the Adult/Child album)

First, thanks for all your Beach Boys coverage. One correction: @ 4:30 in, where you’re working with the horn call & bass line in bars 2 & 3, the French horn notes should be named in concert pitch [E, B & A, respectively] rather than in the up-a-5th transpositions found in the “score”.

What made you decide to notate the song in E major rather than A? The B major feels more like a secondary dominant to me, the F#m more of a sixth, etc. Though at the end, when those “god only knows what I’d be…” counter melodies alternate between D and D#, the D does sound like a flat 7.

      1. The official score is notated in the key of E but more importantly
      2. Its quite clear to the ear that the opening stanza is in E, but as I mentioned in thee video your ears are deceived quite a bit throughout the piece because of the use of inversions

very interesting analysis SPOILED for me by the headache inducing spinning background - so unnecessary and distracting, what a pity.
