@@ivin119 I dunno, they finally get Neo later on.
Still better than a stormtrooper :-)
I love this scene, because it shows how desperate the Agents are. The Agents generally have strict limitors in place on their abilities in order to protect the masquerade of the Matrix. In this scene, that all goes away. They are taking control of people all within clear sight of numerous bluepills. They are desperate to stop Neo, and use their abilities to their maximum, risking revealing the truth.
Always wondered about that. I'm guessing they can't just wipe a bunch of bluepills (their minds or have them killed) but the system will probably twist it with misinformation so it becomes some sort of conspiracy theory moment. "I saw people transform into government agents and start shooting after someone!". No you didn't, it was a movie shoot. Or a.. training exercise. A flashmob. Something, haha.
@@rsolsjo Either that or this happens with every "The One" and eventually the agents cause so much chaos trying to kill them that The Architect has to wipe The Matrix and start all over again, which has happened many times before.
Neo is like a hacker in a gameeee
I imagine every time an agent takes over a body it wipes their memory of what happened
If they are so desperate they could have aimed a little bit better... stormtrooper syndrome intensifies xD
This scene illustrates how different Smith is from the other agents.
While the other two are chasing him Smith is possessing individuals in Neo’s path to cut him off and is the one who actually catches him in the end.
Hes just lazy 🤣
I think it also shows how Smith is a slightly loose cannon from the AI's perspective or at least being more single-minded, because every time Smith possesses a bluepill, it breaks the reality for those who witness it (e.g. the girl next to the woman with the shopping bag, and the woman knitting in the apartment) while Jones and Brown are far less likely to shell-hop and can much more easily keep up the masquerade of being men in black.

Hell, I sometimes cant even find my wallet if I'm running late and really need to leave, only for someone else to point it out to me. It just makes Neo seem like a more natural character.
Agree, same with the part at 1:03 when Dozer tells him "the door on your left... no, your other left"
I think the door in fact wasn't there. Neo asked operator for help and he changed code in the matrix creating the door for him. Like when they fell into a trap and agents changed the window into a wall.

When I first saw this back in college, I assumed that there was no door there originally (the camera never pans far enough for us to see it), and Tank hacked one in so Neo could keep going. And she has a gun
I think the Agents are missing their shots simply because Neo is moving way faster than we might think in this scene.
All the unplugged humans are already faster and stronger in the Matrix due to their awareness of the program. Even though Neo hasn't fully become "the One" by this point in the movie, he is already far faster than all other unplugged humans- Trinity points out as much when Neo dodges the bullets on the rooftop, and Neo was able to defeat Smith in a one on one fight.
Dont think too hard at this. They miss because it's for dramatic effect. Plus it's hard to plug a dude who's sprinting at a distance.
It's because he believes that they won't hit, that's how it works, it's not like neo I do fast he dodges them.
If that was true they wouldn’t be shooting the metal walkway around him, that’s just poor aim, because they have no other way to write it, don’t make excuses where there aren’t any.

Reminds of the legendary chasing on the first Terminator.
for all the people complaining about the agents being such bad shots, i would like to suggest that neo could be manipulating the bullets trajectories on a subconscious level, this is something we see him do with a deliberate/conscious effort in the next scene...
Man. Stop your mind gymnastics.
@@_LilRascal_ yeah exactly, agents were not a rogue software at that time and were controlled by architect.
Agents were more or less still bound to the rules of the simulation at this point in time. The simulation is of our world in the late 1990's, so our physics apply to the Desert Eagles the agents attempt to shoot with one hand even while running at times. Recoil's a bitch
Omg thats such a lame excuse. You can justify any film blunder with that logic.
It's just a lot harder to aim guns than these people realize. I've fired a pistol before, even across open space hitting a person sized target at that distance is hard. Factor in movement and the obstructions, and the agents were obviously pretty good. For computer programs, maybe not so much but these guys were made to be like humans

The Matrix can make people wake up as if nothing happened. Agents do it to Neo in the interrogation. Also, at this point, they have to run down and catch somebody who might just become the One and screw them super hard so...
I love that moment at 0:29 where the agent throws some random guy into the fruit stand, not just because it's funny, but because of the extra in the red shirt who looks at it as though it's nothing out of the ordinary.

i thought i was the only one who noticed that
I gotta admit, the agents were the most badass and the best thing that ever happened in the matrix trilogy
Agreed! Ironic for being generic suited government men with sunglasses and utterly nothing to distinguish them, they're as terrifying as they are iconic. Unkillable (usually, unless you're Neo or have some very specific situational advantage) monsters that only appear to be human that are literally everywhere, and nowhere at the same time. Sooner or later, they're going to get you. You'll turn around, and that pizza guy delivering food to somebody's door will be replaced by a suited man delivering lead straight into you. It can happen so quickly, and without any warning or indication at all. And there's nothing you can do but RUN. But really, I find Agents to be fascinating in general, how they're only designed to have basic functional intelligence, enough to problem solve and overcome situations they encounter, and only have enough social skills to get by, yet they seem to have behavioral quirks an anomalies ("only human...") that surface over time, either from prolonged service and experience, or simply a glitch. Their behavior in general is ironically very inhuman, despite their attempts to blend in, and I think it adds a layer of mystique and intrigue to them. The way they talk as a collective, being connected to one another, and the pauses in their speech (really mostly present in Smith - but he's a special case for reasons we all know). Agents are easily my favorite part of the Matrix, and I wish we got to see more of them. Especially more non-fight interactions. I'd love to see an Agent meet a character in some bizarre situation where they cannot fight and are stuck together for a short time, conversing and interacting with one another, just so we could really delve into how Agents work more deeply, and really bring to light just how amusingly inhuman they are, despite appearing to be one of us.

0:30 Imagine your Dad just morphing into someone else while you're holding their hand... And then they start shooting at someone lol Wtf
Yeah but the redpills have hackers and operators who provide hacked parameters and code around them so incoming bullets and sightlines are off-track slightly.
I never understood why he didn't know his left from his right.
Most of the times that we see Agents possess someone, that body ends up dying (usually in combat). But in this scene we see Smith take over numerous individuals where each _previous_ body was not killed.
So what happens to those bodies? Smith jumps and the person regains control? Do they have any memory of what happened, or is it an amnesia-like scenario? They just wake up in a strange place with no memory of how they got there? Do agents "collect" these individuals for processing or just leave them be?
And what about the people who witnessed the possessions? Clearly they can't allow the illusion to be broken, and they can't have folks becoming aware. I know ultimately it isn't important whatsoever, but I can't help but wonder.
