Club kids were the it-factor of night clubs. This episode we look back at the careers of Michael Alig, James St James, Miss Understood, Amanda Lepore, and Leigh Bowery.

I need more videos of these. They're so good. I hate the fact that she got eliminated from RuPaul's Drag Race. Plus people talked smack about her being annoying for her voice or bash her for her makeup. I think she's adorable and funny. Hopefully she comes out with more Drag HerStory. I've watched almost all the episodes and WANT MORE, THEY'RE SO GOOD.
I want Jaymes to be the Morgan Freeman of drag and narrate every gay documentary that has every come out or will come out

im unsure how michael alig 'started' club kids when peple like james st james came before and london also had an outlandish scene since the new romantics... but this is awesome! thanks for this video
music music I thinky that when people say that, they mean that he brought it to the mainstream. I don't think people are saying that he invented club kids or the scene, I think they are saying that he started the club kid *movement* ..Everyone wanted to be a club kid. People were moving to new York from all over the world to meet him and be a part of the scene.

There was a massive club movement of people doing this stuff in the UK which spawned the New Romantic movement this gave birth to bands like Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Culture Club etc etc. This was in the early 1980s ten years before the Club Kid movement! People in the US doing similar stuff in the 1980s were Man Parrish, Klaus Nomi etc
I'm not personally part of the gay community but I love the art of drag. I didn't know anything about James St. James other than his face make overs. I love him even more now that I know where he came from.

Totally in love with the club kid scene and hope to head up to NY to become more of a part of the new group of club kids. Went up last October to Battle Hymn and met Amanda Lepore, along with Aquaria and Milk. What a kind and genuine group they all are. They all just want to have fun and are super accepting of all walks of life!

I love that you uses Nina Hagen's cover of "New York"...Nina Hagen is such an underrated, underappreciated and misunderstood, revolutionary artists of all time. That and her mom Eva Maria Hagen was a legendary opera singer in communist east Germany and Nina's step father was a big deal underground political activist. Nina was so ahead of her time and just an amazing artist with a fascinating life story.
