    what's good is, initially he is "a big man" saying I'm going to finish this... then when he realises it's his dad there beside him he returns to the child we all have inside us. we are always our parents children, even when parents ourselves.

    Derek Redmond was badass!!!! He was part of the greatest 4x4 team ever when they beat the Americans in 1991. And then he did this. I felt terrible for him that he pulled his hamstring in one of the biggest races of his life, but this was a great olympic moment. Tom Hammond had a great call on NBC when he said "That is the Olympic spirit."

    This reminds me of when my dad passed away, 1 day before he got sick he saved a woman from a car crash. I never realized how much of a great person my dad was, since he was strict, i only noticed why he was strict after he passed. He had a stroke, and most people die from this type of stroke in about 1-2 weeks. My dad was a fighter and he made it 7 weeks before he passed away. only at his funeral was when i realized how much he actually loved me and my brothers and sister. My mom told us how he left out on bills just to make us happy and get us things, and i feel so dumb to think that wasnt enough and that i needed more. Before he got sick, the morning i was going to school he told me if i wanted to play sports. I told him "i dont know if i will be that good". We had a conversation that I dont say to anyone. But everyday before a game i think of it and now im on the road to being a HOF Dtackle in my league.

    As a father I can relate to the support that Derek's dad gave him. It's these gestures of human kindness that separate us from robots. A smile, a hug, a gift, a compliment, a silent blessing, some heartfelt thanks, a word of encouragement, a bit more support, a bit more friendship and we can give them every day to everybody that we can meet, we can change the world with these little acts of kindness, these little acts of caring, we can make the world a better place, we have that power within us always. I wish for you all peace, love and harmony. I love you xxx

    Regardless of what one may think, what is important to take from this is the BEST quality that we have as the human race: perseverance and hope.
    One other thing is we tend to focus oftentimes on the love of a mother which is inspiring, BEAUTIFUL and unique. However a fathers love is just as strong and unique in its on way. This here shows the support and strength a GOOD father gives his child when he feels at his most vulnerable point. Very touching video.

    • @suiseisekidesu2054
      @suiseisekidesu2054 Před 8 lety +1

      ***** Well then you're just being more incorrect.. If you have met him, and said you've never had a father, it literally just makes no sense at all. I mean, I was adopted from Russia by a single mother, so I really have no idea who my father is. It doesn't matter if he's a deadbeat dad, you still have a dad. I understand it's just a figure of speech to say you never had a father. But you could've just said you've never had a _real_ father.
      By the way it wasn't really funny. Especially in your predicament, this video and none of it's comments should be considered funny.

He would never have broken down like this...he was the bedrock in my life. I can honestly say the one and only time I EVER saw him wince and shed a single tear was on his deathbed,...and all he asked of me as the eldest son was to take care of my mother, my sisters and brother.

    They deserved standing ovation.
    Imagine how many children are there in this world who never received their fathers' love and affection, and how many fathers would there be who never give love and affection to their son....
    Inspiring video...

    The Olympics are brutal, because a person can spend their entire lives getting ready for something that's over in minutes. This athlete will always be remembered, not because he won a race but because he, with the help of his dad, won our hearts.

      I know right??? My dad was my coach in all grade school sports like football basketball and baseball. Although he was no longer my coach after grade school he definitely made me feel like I had another pair of legs you know? You want to talk about a supportive father, he was it! He would make the biggest deals out of the smallest accomplishments. I'll never forget that. I miss him!

This is so inspiring for people to never give up and be successful in everything you do! This reminded me about the time e I was racing with my friends and I twisted my ancle turning around. My mom helped me up and my friends came over and we all finished the race together! It made me cry but I didn't give up! It feels nice to success in anything! So never give up!

      this is something people train 4 years for (sometimes longer), something that could happen once in your lifetime, people take a lot of time and effort and this is probably what they have dreamt of. trust me, if you were in a situation like this you would be silly to stop just to help someone. I know it's nice and you get respect for it, but they will get help anyway, and you would be putting an opportunity to waste. this isn't just about helping someone, it's much, much bigger than that.

  • @thepunisherchopper7439

    Right on! That helps me more than you could imagine.. I had a peace of concrete fall on my lower half and crippled me three days after getting married! I refuse to just get on welfare and give up but it’s very hard sometimes but watching you finish made me want to keep going! I carve wood and wood burn and burn pictures on leather. I have nerve damage in my whole body and can’t feel my hands most of the time but with my eyes I can see so I’m still doing it. I live off a fixed income so a lot of the carving tools that I used I no longer can use them and can’t afford many power tools for carving but I have one and I’m grateful fir that. I know God will provide me with the tools I need. I will not give up and I will be able to support my four kids and my wife again.. I have a dremel tool and I can do many things with it and slowly I will get more! Watching this today was and had to be from God himself as he was for you... I needed to watch that today so thank you so much and God Bless you and your family! Your faith and courage as well as just showing the world that winning first place isn’t the only thing that makes you a winner! You gave my the will I needed to continue! Thank you so much and you have a great father as do I. I hope that you know that finishing that race the way you did I believe was meant to be and you made and are still making more of a difference than if you crossed that line first! Thank you so much! I’m sure you won’t read this but I hope some way or the other someone will let you know what you did for me and I’m sure I’m not the only one...
