What a legend for The Arsenal Super Mac was! He even celebrated against his old team which you don't see in modern football.

I was at most of those games. Had fond memories of Sheffield Utd and Wrexham away. It was a tragedy that SuperMac's career was cut short by injury. I was there when he played his last game for us. Away to Chelsea. He scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw. He had missed the whole season due to injury but came back for one last game. I might be wrong, but I am fairly certain we played Chelsea on a Monday night. 2 days after beating the Mancs in the FA Cup final.

Frank Stapleton 1:31. I've never seen someone so disappointed to see his own teammate and his own team score !

John T I think he was only gutted with himself for missing the volley he miss hit it but it fell nicely to Super MAC on all the other goals he’s buzzing for Macdonald

McDonald qualified for the 1976 Olympics. In fact, his 10.09 time would have got him into the final if he’d competed. People don’t realise he was legitimately one of the fastest men in the world for 2-3 years

MacDonald, Chippy Brady, Stapleton, Rix, Rice, Jennings, Young. What a great Arsenal team this was. They never won much, but they were pure entertainment.

There used to be a comic out called Roy of the Rovers when I was a kid. They based Roy Race on him. I kept a scap-book on Malcolm MacDonald, I loved that guy.

My heart is bursting with fond memories of this era for the gunners, will I ever be proud of the lads again? Oh how we desperately need a group of committed players like this right now and a natural finisher like supermac! You current squad should be shown this at team briefs and know for a fact that Alan ball use to fall asleep at bedtime as a lad clutching a football! Man.. today's players only worry in life it seems is which car, watch or house to purchase!!!! Even now George graham, Don howe, Bertie mee and maybe even herbert Chapman wouldn't and couldn't help this present lot as they'd know after one training session that they're heart is elsewhere. So so sad. I actually look forward to watching Jamie vardy play nowadays as you can just tell he fought his way through the ranks of non league and his hunger to play and run off the ball into space and obviously score- every minute! Not every game is so evident and a joy to watch and is so contagious to the rest of his team mates. Arteta throw away the stats results and clipboard and know for sure they only impress you in training to please the club and get their wages paid but they secretly dread matchdays as they know they'll be shown up for what they are - NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY FOR THE ARSENAL!

Was only between 7 and 9 years old when he played for us, but absolulety hero-worshiped him. Almost forgot what a fine striker he was. A good old-fashioned striker. Strong, Tenacious, Brilliant in the air, didn't seem to matter how far outside the box he was, he always seemed to be there to meet a cross with his head and could get such power on his headers because of this, sure, you still see strikers heading goals, but mainly seem to be stationary or maybe run in a few yards, Strikers then would regularly run 20+ yards to meet a cross and would completely surprise defenders by the sheer brute force of how they would muscle their way in. I can only think of a handful of recent strikers who also had/have this ability, Alan Shearer reminds me of Macdonald the most, but there's also Duncan Ferguson, Nikita Jelavic and Andy Carroll, to name, but a few. He was also a very good team player and probably created just as many as he scored though he was more known for his goals in the air, was also pretty adept with his feet too. One of the best strikers i,ve ever seen. PS I cried when we lost 78 Cup Final. Made up for it in 79 though.

Super Mac proved his ex Geordie club, Newcastle Utd wrong when he signed for us, forty-one years ago.Malcolm MacDonald was so clinical.MacDonald and Stapleton formed a clinical partnership for the Gunners in 75/76 to 77/78.

Of course, at that time the starters for Arsenal were most of the Irish International team at the same time! Loved British soccer (football) in the '70s.

We were decent. But had David Price in Midfield alongside Chippy and Talbot. Liverpool had Souness, Kennedy and McDermott.

Shame he had a botched knee op at Newcastle then a further 2 operations put an end to his career as the first op caused a bleed deep within the knee that should have been sealed off. A mass of scar tissue was removed and caused further damage, and coupled with his bowed legs, his knees suffered. He drank to stop the pain...so he wasn't an alcoholic..he needed surgical help.
