During these trying times in our nation, please know that you're appreciated and respected for being such an inspiring police officer. Your selfless act to protect and serve does not go unnoticed. Many years ago a man like you inspired me. He was my best friend's father and a Sgt on our town's police dept, eventually became the Asst Chief of Police. He accepted me and filled the role of a protective father that my biological father had long abandoned. In fact he would jokingly introduce me to people as his white son. In the mid 1980's South he as a black man along with his wife and children, felt strong about family,. They all accepted me. Their family along with my mom and I, all had unconditional love and respect for each other. Our homes were each other's. The cookouts and parties were always fun, but most of all the greatest thing was learning the importance of family and what being a father is. I'm so very thankful to him. To me he's the example of the thin blue line; his selfless act to go above and beyond the call of duty for a fatherless white kid. That acceptance from him inspired me to give back as a police cadet, as a pretrial diversion juvenile arbitrator for the solicitor's office, an auxiliary juvenile justice probation agent, Helpline crisis volunteer, and then a ff/emt after 9/11. Most of all he taught me to be the father that mine refused to be. This year is my 30th wedding anniversary...
