    Been watching racing for over 40 years, don't understand why Jonas Vingegaard got the same time as Pogacar. He didn't wreck or have a mechnical, so why would he get the same time as someone who finished in front of him with lots of gaps? To me it penalizes someone who takes the bull by the horns, even if it's not the smartest move from a safety standpoint or conserving energy for the mountains.

      @@barbaroacosta5335 Kuss is missed for sure, but it's not like Kuss did that on his own constantly. Mateo and Wilco will have to proof their worth tomorrow in the climbing, and with how much WvA has been improving I'm not at all convinced he won't be able to have one of his signature high mountain days where he pulls his nose up on physics and science taking that big muscly body up slopes where even mountain goats have issues to follow ;)
      Ok that last bit is maybe not really likely, but I do expect Kelderman to have a good second and even better third week, like he always has if he doesn't crash and injure himself. Kelderman is on paper not just equal but a better rider as Sepp. Go to procyclingstats and compare, Wilco has three dips all related to major injuries and Sepp is very much below him on the ratings everywhere except last year when Sepp got the Vuelta victory from Visma. Kelderman was actually thought to have the quality to become lead rider, Kuss never had those results was always thought of as an ( excellent ) domestique.
      Mateo is mostly there to learn and taste, but I do expect some work from him in the next stages to do exactly what you're describing: start a stage so hard that they can isolate Pogi on the later climbs.

Though in interviews after Maxim somehow can't recall putting out his elbow and bracing his shoulder to hit Capiot, suggesting Capiot hit him 😂 It was a risky move given they were a bit behind and thus he needs to be aware that riders will be slowing in front of him and getting out of the way. • @DanielHarveyDyer
      @DanielHarveyDyer Před 24 dny +14

      If there is a crash within a certain distance of the finish line on a sprint stage (usually 3, 4, or 5 km depending on the stage) then anyone involved in the crash or stuck behind it gets credited as though they finished with the group they were with when the crash occurred. Before the rule existed, General Classification riders would try to stay towards the front of the group in a sprint finish to avoid being caught in this exact situation, so the sprinters would have to weave their way between the GC riders and it actually made it worse for everyone. So they made this rule and now the GC teams only have to protect their rider until the last few kilometers and then they can drop back, ride passively and safely stop if they need to to avoid an incident, and let the sprinters teams handle the crazy slipstreaming nonsense at the front.

    • @ZnakeTech
      @ZnakeTech Před 24 dny +4

      There was a 5 kilometer rule today, usually it's just 3, on uphill finished it doesnt exist, but pretty sure it was 5k today, where if any rider is held up by, or are involved in a crash within the last 5 kilometers, they don't suffer a time loss. Also gaps have to be larger than 3 seconds to count as a "new group" when calculating the differences.
