I really enjoyed El. Salvador but I did find it expensive. $1 dollar usd for a small bottle water. $4 on the street for 3 tiny apples and a tomato and onion and a tiny banana. $7 usd for a salad at Wendy's. $6 for a burger. $2 for gas station coffee. Many things are more expensive than the USA. If you buy some street food you will save money but you have to be aware of health issues.

It's funny when you mention about the families living all together even if they're older it's so true. When my son turned 18th he looked at me all scared and said "Ahh mom since I'm 18 does that mean I have to find a place to live?? I laugh! I told him even though I was raised in the United States that our Salvadorean tradition is to let you live with us until you're ready to move out. He's still here at 23 finishing his college degree. Thank you. Excellent video. I would really love to see a home tour. I'm married to a Salvadoran woman who was born and raised in Santa Tecla. I was able to visit for a month and stay in my wife's house which is very close to EL Centro de Santa Tecla. I really liked it there. We currently live in Long Beach, CA. We have a daughter(Ximena) that is about to turn 4 years old soon. We"re planning on visiting El Salvador in January. My wife always tells me that she would love to go back to live there, and I could see myself living there too. Para mi no hay problema ya que hablo espanol. Looking forward to more videos.

I've been living away from El Salvador for the last 40 years but,
in the last 5 I've been in and out plenty of times. I'm planning to live there for the rest of my days.
Lots of changes are happening especially on Infrastructure, new buildings, fast train crossing the country from one end to the other, new airport, renew of ports in Sonsonate, La Union, La Libertad,
Surf City is getting an overhaul, ...
In 3-4 years it'll turn into a very interesting place to live.
Being a small country you can live in the city or out and move around with ease, even when traffic is getting heavy. If you like warm weather, you'll be alright, lately it's getting cooler than before, though.

First of all, thank you for this great video, it is super informative and really well done. I am a born El Salvadorian but left the country since 1991 and had been living in Canada since then. I do visit from time to time but it is a different expense when you just go for a week or two for vacation rather than to be living in the country. I am planning to go back to El Salvador during the Canadian winter and then move back to Canada for our Canadian summers so I needed all the information that you had provided in the video.
By the way, I got a great solution for you went it comes to Netflix and TV (USA English version) and you would only need an Amazon Fire Stick 4K ($70 one time fee), an ExpressVPN account ($100 per year) and unlimited internet (speeds of 40Mbps at least Tigo has it for about $43 a month) and a Stb Emulator provider ($15 per month) all that gives you all the channels you ever need.
Again, thank you and have a great time in El Salvador.

150 dollars on food a week. That is what my family spends on food here in the US and in El Salvador we spend maybe 75 to 100 a week

    • @ThatExpatMom
      @ThatExpatMom  Před 3 lety +4

You can totally spend less than we do a week on groceries it's just what works for our family 😊 we used to spend 100 before the 3 girls got bigger. Our budget includes meals and snacks for 5 people, dog food for 2 large dogs, eating pupusas on Sunday, eating out one other time, cleaning supplies, hygiene and haircare, desserts, water, and alcohol. Some weeks we spend less some a little more but this is our average.

You are so lucky to live there is so much to do there.

Thanks for reminding us how El Salvador, or Cusc Atlan as it was called in ancient times, is still a beautiful land to live in. I left El Salvador in 1980 at the age of 12. All my family members have returned to visit except for me. I remember having a happy childhood until the dead bodies started piling up. I do remember its beauty: El Cuco, the river, the Summer home with extended family members, walking the fields and finding small animals, the fireworks, the food, pupusas con repollo, tamales, atol negrito, El Carnaval, and nature all around. I miss seeing the old people, the ones who have passed away. I am afraid that I left when El Salvador was still independent. Now, it has no currency of its own, and I heard it sold its bank to Colombia. I hope El Salvador regains its independence again.

A engineer Income is between $600-1000 of course there are few people than earn a little bit more that this range. So the work-class can’t afford to pay for a good school for his children and it’s so frustrating. Right now I’m living in Australia and everything is completely different.

The minimum it's $300 so most of the people earn this much, mostly if you didn't go to the university. But if you graduated can be from $450 to $600 and if you have a good job even $1000 to $2000 Where I used to live the rent was like $50, school free but if you wanted a private school was from $35 to $50. Water service $2 and electricity $35

I have friends who want to visit or live for short time in El Salvador, is good they can have an idea how much the living expenses can be, of course as you say, can vary depends the expectations, number of family members, etc. Lovely how you put together that information. I can not wait to come back and enjoy my little El Salvador again. I love you mentioned that you have pupusas in the Sunday menu :)
