I am interested in seeing a Jon Peters interpretation of cornhole boards. 😊

Can't wait to see how this one comes out. Never heard of Monkey Pod wood so this should be interesting. Thanks for the look at the thought process. Great content as always.

Cool start to the new project. Hearne Hardwood in Oxford PA has Monkey Pol lumber. I'm sure it's not cheap.

It would take this kind of overview to get me comfortable working in laminates, so it's much appreciated. One obvious limitation for me is the lack of a larger flat work surface. I wonder how common this issue might be for some of us.

Thanks Jack! Yes I always use a piece of 4 x 8 plywood to help with the layout

That's a cool looking pattern on that veneer. I think I've mostly seen species like Poplar used as a secondary wood, as opposed to Mahogany. Whatever works, right? 😀
Can't wait to see this video and the finished product.

The project recap at the end brought back some good memories of some really cool builds. On a side note you're lookin like a stud Bud!!! No flanel for first 4 mins.
Then I looked closer & realized you were wearing Michael's t-shirt!!!! Oh I freakin kill myself. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!!

Some Australian acacia timbers might look similar to monkey pod - not sure if this is readily available where you are

I'm sure I'm missing something but why not just veneer the plywood end grain on the front edge? Why the need for the solid wood lamentation? Edge treatment maybe?

Then you would need to cut the miters with a razor knife and attach with glue… that would be difficult.

Cool idea Jon. What kind of plywood are you using for the base cabinet and is it cabinet quality so veneer adherence is better?
    Thanks...🤘🤘🤘

Beautiful veneer! Are you still planning on building a sauna, with poplar?

Yes, just taking some time… making the framing with 24 mil Baltic birch plywood and I’m picking it up this week.

True craftsmen don’t make everything perfectly. True craftsmen develop strategies to fix stuff so it looks perfect, after they make the inevitable mistake or two.

Was that straight veneer or did it have a PSA backing?
