Brazil football team masseur makes double save for team before scarpering

- A masseur for a Brazilian football club has stunned players by running on to the pitch and blocking two goals.
After clearing the ball, he then turned and sprinted to the dressing rooms, chased by furious Tupi players.
But his efforts were enough to keep the game tied at 2-2, sending Aparecidence through to the semi-finals of Brazil's fourth division.
Opponents Tupi are reportedly appealing to get the result overturned. Report by Sarah Johnston.

I'll describe all the facts: The teams were Tupi x Aparecidense, his name is Romildo Fonseca da Silva, he was masseur from the Aparecidense team, and this was the second game in a round of 16 in the 4th division of the brazilian national league. The game was 2-2, it is important to mention that in Brazil, some leagues have a rule where a goal scored in the opponent's stadium worths more. The first game was ended 1-1 in the Aparecidense's stadium, now the game was 2-2 in Tupi's stadium, which means the 2-2 was favorable to Aparecidense, once they had 2 goals against only 1 in the opponent's stadium, Aparecidense only needed to get the game to it's end and Tupi was in desperate need of a goal. It was 44 of the 2nd time (or 89 minutes), the masseur was there because Aparecidense had an injured defender where in normal circunstances would be taken off, but Aparecidense needed everyone, specially a defender to hold the score, and the funny thing is that the masseur himself defended the goal twice. The game ended 2-2 and Aparecidense advanced to the quarterfinals at that night. Romildo was being threatened with death from Tupi's fans during that month, and Tupi entered into the court to claim for justice. In the end, Aparecidense team was not only disqualified from the tournament but they also were relegated to the previous league, needing to get the access again, while Tupi won the quarterfinals and got the access to the 3rd division by reaching the semifinals. Romildo had to pay a fine of 500 reais (something like 250 dollars at the time), and serve a sentence of 24 games out of stadiums. Nowadays, he's probably fine, I couldn't find any news about him, the Aparecidense is playing in the 3rd division in the national league which is a nice achievement once they are not even a medium team, and Tupi couldn't stay in the national leagues since 2018, they are playing the second division of it's state, trying to come back to the 4th division.
Legend. The way he blocked the shots with his feet, then has to sprint away from professional athletes. Don't forget the casual bouncing of his equipment bag off the face of the rent-a-cop. Legend.

No, madam he can't be stopping two goals. He stopped two scoring chances from the same attack. Whether attacking team had scored from first or second chance, it would have counted for one goal.

The referee could've counted as a scored goal since it was going in anyway, twice, if not for someone that is not a player, but it was also not a goal since the ball didn't go in the goal, its a question of interpretation, and then there are courts to decide this kind of thing, and the court decided the team that benefitted from this was disqualified and the team that was supposedly disqualified after this got its qualification and it counted as a goal virtually.

Don't understand what is wrong with a sport that can't disqualify a team for having too many "players" on the field. Aren't there rules in place to handle such a thing? If not, it appears time to make such a rule before this starts happening at all matches.

3rd world countries ? it has nothing to do with the condition of a country. Literaly no referee in the world would have counted any of that as a goal. Why in the world would he ? it was factualy not a goal. A goal is when the ball is physicaly in the goal, not earlier, or have you ever seen a referee count it as a goal when the opposing player prevented it by using his hands ? no. The player / individual may be punished but it most definitly is no reason to give the other team a goal. Possible consequences for disrupting a *chance* to score a goal would be enforced to the individual who did that. Nobody just gifts scores.

By the rules, as long as the ball is in play and the ref does not blow the whistle, any type of external interference doesn't matter, the play must go on.
