95 Silverado, I had to pull the intake during repairs & I saw the air channels feeding the EGR were carbon blocked. I had to use a chisel & Dremel to clear them. Two weeks later code #32. It's a friends truck ( he bought it new ) & he was taken advantage of many times over the years. Now it's my turn to right the wrongs. Thanks for your help with this.

I like OBDI it was a much simpler system but I do like OBDII better due to the information/values you can pull with a scanner.Good vid!

I get an intermediate code 32,, usually when ive been on a long trip or pulling a heavy load..
On G.M. oil pumps with the screen, if you go over a train track and then the oil light comes on it's the oil pump screen. The screen moved up and it's not picking up. Measure the oil pump screen-oil pan depth and install a hex set-screw. Or you could weld it.
I have a 95 k1500 5.7L. I changed the EGR, Map Sensor, and EGR vacuum solenoid along with vacuum hose. But when I run it on highway the service engine light pops on. The GM code reader still gives me code 32. Im stuck and dont know what it could be.
Did you ever figure it out? I’m in the same boat with my 95 as well.
Still having the same issue til this day. I actually had originally replaced egr with autozone brand. Didnt seem to work. I recently replaced that one with a delphi part #eg10099. According to a user on a GM forum someone mentioned that these trucks run on negative back pressure egr. Now when the egr is connected to the solenoid the truck sputters and shuts off after it reaches correct temperature. It also gives code 32(still) and now code 44 which indicates a bad o2 sensor. Mind you i replaced o2 sensor about a year ago. When i unplug hose from egr to solenoid the truck runs fine but the the CEL turns on again with code 32. Im thinking of replacing egr with one from GM this time around.
I deleted my egr and my truck runs great but today I drove the truck up to the mountains about 1.5 hours up and back. I got a flowmaster 40 muffler installed today and my service engine soon light came on during my drive home. I checked it when I got home and it was a code 32. I started the truck back up and the code wasn’t there, not sure why it happened, maybe altitude or the less restrictive exhaust.

Hey Farmboy, I have a 89 Silverado 5.7 TBI doing the exact same thing your truck did. New EGR valve won’t open with 21” of direct manifold vacuum, yet hand pump will open it. New EGR solenoid. Truck runs great. Yet after replacing old exhaust from manifolds back, code 32 keeps coming back after every battery disconnect reset. What did you do to fix your problem? I suspect the new exhaust system simply flows too good now. However, your video is by far the closest thing to my problem. Great to have the service manuel! Thanks.
James, I never did anything on mine. I wasn't getting a code 32, this video was just to show some diagnostic checks. Funny that the new one didn't open with direct vacuum. Maybe I was wrong about that... Did you replace the Oxygen sensor? I think they work together. That's all I can think of.
Farmboy's Garage Thank you for responding! I did indeed order a new AC Delco O2 sensor from Amazon. Just got it yesterday, but have not put it on yet. Makes me regret buying a Duralast EGR valve. It may be defective.

if u replace the egr valve on these trucks make sure u get the right one, theres 2 different ones, that will mount on, but one has an internal bleed hole, one does not,, if u put the wrong one on, it will not work right.
How can you tell which is which?
I have a 1993 Chevy pickup 1500 which is giving me code 34 and my repair manual tells me it's the EGR valve can you give me a hand with that thank you
This might not be too relevant but my '95 is giving a 33 code, can't find too many videos on it though

My 95 Cheyenne with the 5.7 is throwing code 32 for the egr valve it runs fine great actually is it ok to leave it alone
Question sir: What is the correct way the valve is installed?I didn'notice when I took mine off. Does the square hole go to top or bottom as my manifokd has 2 square holes, 1 bigger then the other? I kno wit is a dumb question but had to ask, My truck is a 94 chevy 1500 4.3 wt . Thank yoi for thr great videos!!
Hey farm boy my truck doesn’t have a catalytic converter would that be a major reason my get system is growing code 32

ive replaced the electric control for my egr. when i depress the diaphragm, it kills the motor. any suggestions?
Sounds like the EGR circuit is clean so I'd look for a bad vacuum line.
My truck tested out exactly as yours. My egr diaphragm will hold if valve is pushed open and the vacuum tit is capped, but engine vacuum is not enough to pull it open. Do they get too stiff to function properly over time? Did you replace yours? If so, did that fix it?
I didn't have any issues with my EGR valve. I just did this video to show how to test them. The only issue I've had is one of the vacuum hose connections on the EGR solenoid broke off so I had to replace the solenoid. If you can push the diaphragm open, then the engine vacuum should be enough to overcome spring pressure. I'd look for a cracked vacuum line or solenoid problem.
Thank you for the reply! I swapped the solenoid with one from a properly functioning truck. No change. The lines "look" good, and have some vacuum to the egr when i bypass the solenoid. I have no vacuum gauge. Could it be dirty throttle body passages? I think i remember the other truck having built up gunk when i rebuilt the throttle body on it. I suppose I'll try that next on this one.
No problem, sorry it didn't fix the issue but at least it didn't cost anything :) It won't hurt to cleaning the throttle body, but not sure that's what's causing the issue. Yours set a code 32?
Yes, the only code i have.
No more check engine light! I cleaned and rebuilt the tbi. The tbi to intake gasket was deformed into the vacuum port channels a little bit. There was also some crud building up. The truck has 150,000 miles on it. I also replaced the vacuum hoses, which may have been the issue because when i went to remove the one connected to the throttle body is snapped into fairly easily. It also used to hesitate a lil before but no more! Thanks again for the video and advice.
I have a 94 5.7 replaced egr valve then solenoid and hoses all ac Delco parts still get a check engine says egr problem. Think the ports could be clogged?
Was battery disconnected to reset the computer?

@@squarebodyg5354 With the engine running, does pressing down on the EGR diaphragm make the engine stumble/stall? If it doesn't you know for sure the ports are clogged.
@@haks310 I haven't tried that and didn't know that was a way to check. Thank you very much for the info! I'll check it when I get back to my truck. I rebuilt the throttle body recently thinking that would help but didn't change much. It needed new gaskets and filters anyways so it was good I did. Thanks again for replying man 👍
My 89 gmc k1500 has code 32 but the truck runs fine.any idea why this is so?
Code 32 is showing there's a problem with the EGR, most likely it isn't opening. Not opening would not effect engine performance, just emissions.

@@djkoold8833 More likely it's the vacuum line that runs either to or from the solenoid or the solenoid itself that's bad. If you push up on the EGR from underneath the diaphragm and it moves, it's probably ok.
I had no idea trucks of that vintage had bidirectional controls mainly because I would need a real scan tool not this wingwang stuff I have. LOL
I didn't either but apparently so. Maybe one day I'll get a real scan tool for these old trucks ;)
