There are at least three ways to write down the intro sequence, which is the best one?
    Type 1:
    | 2/4 Am - | Am G/B | C - |
    | 3/4 C - Dm/F | Am/E - C/E |
    | 2/4 F - | F - |
    | 2/4 Am - | Am G/B | C - |
    | 3/4 C - Dm/F | 2/4 Am/E - |
    | 2/4 G - | G - | G - | G - |
Type 2 (like in the video):
    | 4/4 Am - - G/B |
    | 5/4 C - - - Dm/F |
    | 3/4 Am/E - C/E |
    | 4/4 F - - - |
    | 4/4 Am - - G/B |
    | 5/4 C - - - Dm/F |
    | 2/4 Am/E - |
    | 4/4 G - - - |
    | 4/4 G - - - |
Type 3 (like in my 10-year-old transcription):
    | Am - - G/B | C |
    | Dm Am - C/G | F |
    | Am - - G/B | C |
    | 3/4 Dm Am - | G | - |

I want to know what you think. There are at least three ways to write down the intro sequence for "Dream Of The Drowned Submariner", which do you think is the best one? I acknowledge that Type 1 is a more "academical" approach, though it's difficult to read, count, and remember. It just seems too confusing. So Type 2, to me, is the easiest, most reliable way to write this sequence down. Notice Type 3 is something I came up with 10 years ago, and it's ridiculous. It may be easy to read, but there's no way to accurately remember the song with this information.
In my final version I almost think like this:
First it's 4/4, then 4/4 again PLUS additional beat (hence 5/4 time)
      Then 3/4 and 4/4
The second time it's 5/4 again
      Then 2/4 and 4/4

@@PavelFomenkov I think type 2 is the best under one condition: you need to know the song by heart. In type 2 you've got the transition chord at the end of each bar and that's so nice. But you have to know by heart: the first part is "normal" amount of time before transition to second part, in second part there is a "normal + extra" amount of time before transition to third part, third part is "normal - extra" amount of time before transition to fourth part, and fourth part is rest "normal" amount of time. If you know that by hear, then Type 2 is absolutely the best.

(and I think it is very important to train and use your memory, that's why I even like more Type 2)

I discovered your videos while on Facebook yesterday, searching for how to play Going Home/Wild Theme, and was blown away by your playing. I went back tonight and came across this Dream of the Drowned Submariner video. You are an amazing teacher as well. I'm looking forward to discovering many more gems. Well done!

Dream of the drowned Submariner is one of my favourites. I really appreciate your understanding of the tune; chords, timing nuances, finger picking. In these days, when there is so much ugliness coming out of Russia, it is deeply heartening to witness the counterbalancing beauty and integrity of your posts. I am beyond grateful.

    Hi Pavel,
Love this song, (well....all MK songs, to be honest 😉). Just signed up for your Patreon. Will be listening to this on my way home.
Just finished birding and admiring beautiful hand carved monuments in Cambridge, MA.
    I appreciate you!!

Mark Knopfler songs are so beautiful, you make the tabs and chords and they are so useful to practice the song. At first sight you can read the tab and the song will match. But to get the nuances right you _have_ to see the video and play along with you. Because there are so many notes that are a teensy weensy bit after or before the _exact_ beat of the song it is impossible to put on the tab. Moreover: trying to put all the notes in the exact part would clutter the tab: that's the reason why I found them perfect, and I think you are the best guitar teacher. Great work. Also I like to hear your introductions and thoughts. Thank you very much.

I want to know your reaction to this, especially to a tricky rhythm thing, was it helpful at all? Because you can really count it all in 4/4, but it was too confusing to me.
