One of the finest films ever made: script, directing, acting, cinematography, music !!!! It's making me cry, my dad loved this movie, we'd watch together. No one makes films like this anymore. I don't think so, anyway!
a
Check out Roma and Cold War, both B&W films released last year. My favorite movies from 2018.
ok boomer
@fsdf sdfsdf ? ? ?
Well, I'd say Wes Anderson is worth attention :)
The greatest film of all time. When orson welles steps out of the darkened shadows has also got to be the greatest entrance of any actor in any film
you betcha.
I can't count the number of times I've seen this film and the latest was yesterday. Even though I know scene for scene what is going to happen, I am still riveted. 104 minutes never ever wasted.
I say the same thing..Holly's "ride" is terrifying still, even though I have seen it so many times I can mouth the words🤣
Yeah its kinda crazy how the film never seems to drag, you constantly feel engaged through out the whole film.
Just saw this film today and i have to say that its an immediate classic in my book. Loved all the performances in the film but i was freakin blown away by orsen wells inclusion in the movie, just perfection.
The reveal, when his face appears from the shadows is just jaw dropping
I love how practically every frame of this film is like a great noir painting! What a cast, too! Adore Orson and Joseph Cotten!
Undoubtedly one of the best endings of a film. When she walks by Martins without a glance, it's exquisite.
Yes, I agree. A perfect example of less is more, and of "show, don't tell". What could be simpler in terms of the action and the way it is filmed, yet the scene courses with myriad emotions and heart-wrenching drama. The audience is given time to fully appreciate all the implications of her refusal. Engrossing and absolutely superb film-making.
Even as a kid I knew this was cut above the rest, marvellous film.
the film is just iconic moment after iconic moment. Incredible camera shots, editing, lighting, acting moments, again and again. And post-war torn Vienna was the perfect place and moment in time to film it. A coming together of all the best things in the film universe, never ever to be repeated.
One of my favorites. I know the dialogue by heart. The Camera work is brilliant, and so is everything else!
This is my most favorite film from the B&W era.
Fascinating, well acted, with a . great musical score. The ending is one of the best ever in a movie. ORSON WELLES was a genius.Unforgetable .
My grandad watched this in cinemas in the 40s
I often wonder what it would be like to go back in time and see all time classic movies when they first premiered, how cool would it be to actually have been at the very first screening of Lawrence of Arabia, North by Northwest or The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
@@derekmatzek9551 would have been a treat to see
@@derekmatzek9551
Or even taxi driver or 2001 or the big Lebowski
I’d love to travel back in time to like a silent film
@@ruly8153 hell yeah!
So lucky…
Saw it in the theatre (Eye film museum in Amsterdam) today. Amazing movie!
I don't know if a classic film like this needs a spoiler alert, but they actually put the last shot of the movie in the trailer!
Without context these are just characters on screen.
Robert Krasker did a marvelous job as cinematographer. Oscar well deserved. It obviously isn't widescreen but with his expertise it might as well have been.
I'm obsessed with this movie
Can this trailer have any more spoilers
well i didnt see Harry Lime die in the sewer...OOPS (The OOPs wasnt, "OOPs I spoiled more thn the trailer did." It was "OOPs that critical scene i mentioned IS ACTUALLY IN THE TRAILER! The entire film they are trying to figure out what happened to the seemingly dead Harry Lime and in the very trailer they reveal to you he's actually alive in the very place he gets gun downed. Im leaving this because too many people 2 years later keep pouting.)
Not much other than the shot of Anna walking by. They Should Have shown her farther back, but other than that it wasn't bad
I wonder what percentage of viewers this year will see it for the first time. Most of us can shout out the dialog before it happens. Spoil away!
James Esparza You’re stupid spoiling such a good and enjoyable film
@@SoullessAIMusic you fucking worthless piece of shit
This movie is breathtaking. If u r watching the trailer and trying to decide if u should watch it, know the trailer is nothing like the movie. As great as this movie is, this is one of the worst trailers I have ever seen. The film is spectacular and I emphatically declare that all who come across it should view the film. It is a plot of the highest caliber in story telling. It tells of two friends who wish for a life of camaraderie. But due to life decisions and stances of morality, they are forced to oppose each other and ultimately become foes. This is a timeless Must Watch film
MAN I LOVE FINDING THESE COMMENTS. TRAILER WAS REALLY ODD ANDN OT WHAT I EXPECTED. BUT WILL WATCH HAHA
Quality never does age or go out of fashion
Fantastic movie. The new 4K restore is incredible on the big screen.
One of my favourite movie ever still watch it ❤️🎥
Wow 4k? that's amazing. Definitely will watch it with my parents. Already installed boxxy software to watch it - on my TV Box at home.
KaMaL HasSaN Sir...ParanjiTTu VanneTha....Cinema enthannu nnu KaaNaaN 💖💫😀✌👍
Nice attempt, but to my opinion 4K has added nothing: it barely reached HD (1080p) quality. I don't bother with 4K when restoring old historic film footage: the software takes more than four times longer and in the end hardly anything is gained.
Right now I'm only buying Blu Rays of restored Noir and classic horror cinema :') and I'm not regret it, next will be the RIFIFI.
Easily one of the best films I've ever seen, I always recommend this one to all my film buff friends who haven't seen it yet (which is, sadly, most of them)
Great film, finally restored!!! What more do you want???
Popcorn Cinema Show A fair price on 4K blue ray.
Colors
To see it in a theater without masks.
I liked it way more than Citizen Kane. I used to use The Third Man in my film course. Great flick!
Damn that ending shot is so beautiful
Makes the hair on my neck stand up. That long shot with everything in focus and how she walks by never looking at him and how he looks at her the whole time. Such a meditation on corruption and innocence lost. Whew.
Che nostalgia! Wonderful
The film and Welles’s smile scene is too iconic !
The smiles were SO pychopathic
Just saw the new print. Amazing. Beautiful. The youtube clip doesn't do it justice.
If you enjoyed this film´s cinematography check the movie Ida. Different genre and quite new but still beautifully shot.
I watched it yesterday in Vienna at the Burg Kino. It was a beautiful experience to get out of the cinema and visit the same places that are shot in the movie.
Can we please get a release on a 4K disc?
I caught half of this film a while back and that music was thrill ing. It on TCM early in morning, @100am and staying up to watch it
To call this film magnificent would be a huge understatement.
An awesome cinematic Masterpiece! 📽️ I love the theme music! ❤️🎶
Great Black and White Cinematography by Robert Krasker
who would have the local fire brigade spray the cobble
streets of Vienna to get a truly authentic dramatic feel
to the movie
This better come to US theaters or there will be hell to pay.
It's in Chicago
I saw it a few nights ago at the Music Box Theatre. Beautiful in 4k.
+anigbrowl this better be on bluray in the united states or ill sig harry lime on them

@Bruno56 Godzilla and Porn are great in their own right
During WW2, Graham Greene worked for MI6 with Harold Adrien Russell "Kim" Philby. The name "Harry Lime" is an amalgamation--Harry was Philby's first name while "Lime" refers to Greene. THE THIRD MAN was about penicillin but was really referring to intelligence activities in post-war Vienna.
Strangely so was my uncle. Greene hated that life and the discipline. Worked in the field and covered the sailing of the Queen Mary to America to be refitted as a troop ship. He worked some of his adventures in to Our Man in Havana. Giving it a totally different setting from his actual war work.
The greatest film of all time
Dutch angles galore!
Funny thing about this film...for me, anyway. A few years ago, I was looking at the DVDs in our city library, and obviously wasn't paying much attention...because I thought I'd picked up The Thin Man (first of six unbeatable comedy murder mysteries in series). I ripped it, then let it sit on my computer until last night, when I was looking for something different from what I'd been watching. I had let it sit there for so long, because I didn't recall having heard of it before...but within a few minutes, I realized that I'd seen it forty or fifty years ago, on a small B&W TV (almost certainly my grandparents', since I often spent hours watching TV there...really nothing to do on a small farm at night, you know?).
Also, I'd never known the zither could sound so good (it sure didn't sound so good on a cheap sixties tv)...I'd only heard people with minimal skill playing one before. Thank you Anton Karas!
Kamal hassan 🤩
Truly a masterpiece.
Afyer Kamal interview😅
My favorite movie!
its so fascinating to me seeing where michael got most of his ideas from, for the moonwalker film.. right from the third man movie.
his dance routine was lifted from bob fosse...google The Little Prince snake scene.
@@DJRitty oo shit.. thanks DJ ritty!!!!
@@Bakesonline it's crazy...bob fosse should have gotten royalties every time MJ appeared lol czcams.com/video/xXonK8EBqmk/video.html
GREAT Movie....
Nothing like a good Carol Reed film starring wet bricks and slimy city landscapes!
Bit of trivia for you , the visuals to this film were the inspiration for the Michael Jackson film Moonwalker especially the street scenes
Um dos filmes mais perfeitos da história do cinema.
Great trailer.
Oooh Viennaaaaa! ;)
Better come out in Australia as well.
I've always wanted to know what play Anna performs in, in the scene at the Theater an der Josefstadt?
Graham Greene is a master of tragicomedy.
my fave film. it is perfect. only la jetee comes close.
The Zyther music and the German bits spoken makes the movie unusual!
Im about to watch this movie for the first time
Unique!
Warm thanks and greetings from Sweden! / Jan Halldin
The last scene is heartbreaking. I keep hoping Alida Valli will turn toward naive Holly/Joseph Cotton but she never does.
She does in the novel
Can definitely see the influence used for Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker film, specifically the chase and smooth criminal
I came here because of moonwalker
I'm sure the twist was shocking back in 1949, but I have a question, Didn't audience goers back then know Wells was in the film(possibly known as Lime, i'm not sure) and realize halfway through that wells had not yet appeared and he was obviously Harry Lime, or at least the so called 3rd man? Why else would such a big name not appear until 2/3rds into the movie?
Might have something to do with the script.
Orson Welles made himself unvailable when the shooting was about to start. He spread that he had gone to Rome, but he was found in a Hotel i Paris, and he got a raise in his contract. Due to the lost time, they had to rewrite the script. Even the running shadow in the car scene..it is not Orson Welles. It is Carol Reed stuffed with hanger inside his coat to make his shoulder broader. The total amount of time when Orson is in picture is extremely short, but it just adds to the mystery.
Alida Valli more beautiful than ever.
underrated masterpiece
Acabo de leer el libro..braham greene mi escritor favorito
I make many videos, and sometimes I add music to them, and I always get people complaining about my music choice. I just finished reading the comments and there are people complaining about the music in the third man. I think 20% of people are just crazy.
This should have been in 4k
The spongebob sounding music for the trailer was weird
Read about this noir film in a book, thought it was gonna be super dark, but this theme music makes me think of SpongeBob.
on NetFlix right now.
Cinematic Sacher Torte...
I can only think about Better Call Saul when I hear that theme music.
すげえ!綺麗になってる
Unbelievable good , they can’t make movies like that anymore- You will think it is real, not a movie, to believable.
I SHALL DRINK NO WINE BEFORE ITS TIME!
"Aaah, the French"
I'm faced to a third man in my life ; stealing my money, A swift with sorta bros....Unbeliveable
Classic
Someone needs to tell these people they don't have to export and upload their trailers in H264.
Does anyone know who has the exhibition rights to The Third Man?
Yess!
Surely this is out of copyright!!!!!!!!! I have just watched the classic John Wayne western, ' Stagecoach'in colour, free!!!!!!!

What's the name of the song?
The third man theme.
US when?
The spongebob music tho
Yes ma'am ,the third man; 👞👞
Romance adventure mystery -one of the great movies and great actors -both genders -I always look for the actors first to know it worth seeing -today technolgy special effects dominate speech with f word essential mumbling slang - I give a big miss -be i no prude -just want good actresses and actors -don’t need to be naked -always in the past -left that to our imagination-
michael jackson moonwalker was inspired by this movie
What’s the deal with his tie tho?
