  • Hey everyone, welcome back to Daily Downshift. We are finally back to posting B9 Audi S4 content after replacing a faulty turbo. In short, the 2018 S4 was in the shop for around 3 weeks and as it turns out the waste gate was loose which required the entire turbo to be removed. We are happy to report that everything went well and we finally have the car back. We can't wait to continue the mods and create more content! We hope you enjoy!
    Here at Daily Downshift we're committed to uploading the latest car news, vehicle comparisons and entertaining automotive vlogs.

    This is the reason why there has been little Audi content but we're excited to continue the mod journey. If anybody has experienced this issue or something similar definitely let us know!

    Dude I had the SAME problem with my B9 S5 Sportback with waiting on parts. I wasn't having turbo issues, but my Oil Filter Housing lower main seal completely went out and pissed 3 liters of oil out of the system. I had the car sat in the shop lot for 2 weeks just waiting on an oil filter housing, there was THREE in the entire US and they were spoken for.

    I have an S5 SB and had a subtle rattling issue coming from under the dash area. It turned out to be the soundaktor unit. It was replaced and haven’t heard the rattle since.
    Will keep an eye on it though. A blown turbo is a scary problem.

      I just got a 2019 b9 s4 with 41k miles about two weeks ago and have noticed a weird vibrating kinda noise on acceleration between 2-3k rpm’s wondering if that means my turbo is going bad I still have the warranty tho so hoping I can get it looked at by Audi has your car had any issues since you commented this?

    internal wastegate valve problem does NOT mean "turbo failure" and you have NO REASON AT ALL to change your entire turbo, even if that valve has kind of "permanent no bolt" fixing on his lever.
    Or.. if you intend to modify further in the future, switch directly to a tubular mainfold and healthyer EXTERNAL wastegate and serious turbo which will drop significantly you EGT.

  • @93ChayZ
    @93ChayZ Před 2 lety +6

    Wished you gotten the noise on video, it’s actually good that they are replacing a turbo, because the turbo will “i hope” be analyzed by Audi to find out of the failure can happen on more of our turbo’s. I looked up the recalls as my 18’ has none :3

    I agree it was a good thing (phew!) to get it diagnosed & fixed beforehand.... otoh, you'd have replaced all of the hardware itself in the build, right? Short of ingesting some metal into the motor.... not saying it's impossible w/ a bad wg, just "I think probably not". Right or no? At least you have a new, super-low mile OEM part to toss up for sale!

    quick question, i think i have that same rattling sound on my audi 18' b9 s4 but i already tuned it and put an intake, do you think they could still fix it or did that void my warranty? it has 40k miles

    • @DailyDownshift
      @DailyDownshift  Před 2 lety +4

      I wouldn't worry about the intake. My advice, put it back to the stock tune and bring it in to Audi. With that said, confirm your warranty period hasn't ran out

    I think I have the exact same issue and the Audi dealership acknowledges that the sound is there, but because everything is performing the way it should and there are no codes, they are telling me Audi won’t pay any more to diagnose the issue… even though I told them it was likely the wastegate. They will only move forward if there are performance issues or a code.

    • @DailyDownshift

      Slickpete83 I've driven my B9 S4 like I stole it, never had 1 single issue. Blown turbos are not a common problem, quite rare actually, I had a C63 previously and cracked the intake manifold twice, to give some perspective.
      Can happen to ANY car. A family member of mine bought a brand new Nissan and the engine blew after 12,000KM, and she drives like a grandma too, never ever revved it past probably 4,000 at most, always serviced when needed. These things happen
