  • Considered one of the greatest hard rock albums ever made, "Highway to Hell" is in the spotlight! Delve into the genius of the record with those who worked on it, friends of Bon Scott, AC/DC biographers, and others who were there at the time! Discovers how the album was made, how it was received, and how it still inspires musicians and fans alike to this day. Featuring rare and classic performances and footage of the group, interviews with Bon Scott and Angus Young, exclusive contributions from friends, colleagues, journalists and biographers, every track from the album reviewed and reappraised by a panel of esteemed experts and plenty more. Although it wasn't until after the release of the "Highway to Hell" album that AC/DC became global superstars, the era most fondly remembered by fans of this extraordinary band is when Bon Scott was at the helm - between 1974 and 1980. And if there's one album from that time that illustrates best what the mighty 'DC was all about during those years, it has to be "Highway To Hell".
Clips and song performances in the film include: Stiff Upper Lip, Whole Lotta Rosie, Jailbreak, This House Is On Fire, Guns For Hire, Sin City, What You Do For Money Honey, Problem Child, Hells Bells, Touch Too Much, T.N.T., For Those About Rock.
Highway to Hell is the sixth studio album by the Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released on 27 July 1979. It was the last album featuring lead singer Bon Scott, who would die early the following year on 19 February 1980. It propelled the band into the top ranks of hard rock acts. It is the second highest-selling AC/DC album (behind Back in Black) and is generally considered one of the greatest hard rock albums ever made. Greg Kot of Rolling Stone writes, "The songs are more compact, the choruses fattened by rugby-team harmonies. The prize moment: Scott closes the hip-grinding 'Shot Down in Flames' with a cackle worthy of the Wicked Witch of the West." In a 2008 Rolling Stone cover story, David Fricke notes: "Superproducer 'Mutt' Lange sculpted AC/DC's rough-granite rock into chart-smart boogie on this album." AllMusic calls the song "Highway to Hell" "one of hard rock's all-time anthems." In 2003, the album was ranked number 199 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and 200 in a 2012 revised list.
All tracks are written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott.
    The Band:
    Bon Scott - lead vocals
    Angus Young - lead guitar
Malcolm Young - rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Cliff Williams - bass, backing vocals
    Phil Rudd - drums
    Album track listing:

I saw the video clip of Bon Scott in the pulpit dressed as a vicar and it was brilliant. Apart from Zeppelin and Jagger there was only Ozzy that had something special. Bon come along and was a total revelation, head case, party animal and rocker all in one. He was a comedian and shocked probably every Eton schoolboys yuppee parent and schoolgirls father into putting their teenage daughters on the pill.

I saw AC/DC twice in the summer of ‘79. In June they were the backup band for UFO and blew them off the stage. Angus went through the audience playing his guitar and also pop the moon on stage. It was awesome. I saw them again in August and they were the headliner. Prior to their first performance I’d only heard them on underground or college radio.

No disrepect to Brian, but I was spoiled by Bon. I obtained a bootleg copy of "Let There Be Rock" before it was released in the U.S., and Bon and Angus turned me into an immediate, hard core fan. Bon was absolutely unique, and it hit me hard when he died. When AC/DC reappeared with Brian and "Back in Black", I was devastated by the vocals, and how much AC/DC sounded so different. I'm still a huge fan, but will always continue to miss Bon. I was fortunate to have seen him live approx. 6 months before he died.

I remember when I became a fan back in the late 70’s. Nobody liked them except for a couple of my pals and me. That made us love them even more!

Definitely. I’ve grown up through the 80s listening to them. They are the soundtrack to my life. But Bon was the man with the material - the lyrics. He gave them the AC/DC image and Angus said that himself.
With Bon you had not only great music by Mal and Angus, but great witty lyrics that told a, often hilarious, sometimes sad and lonely, story which made the songs _that_ much bigger, better and epic sounding.

AC/DC is for sure one of those bands that will never ever be forgotten. I remember growing up in South Carolina ? And they were very much part of my childhood. my mom she’s Scottish like the Young’s and Bon are and were. To me it doesn’t matter where somebody is from or what they look like and I know nobody was implying either one? If the music is good it’s good. To this day I still listen to their music I was just a little girl when I got introduced to them. In my mom‘s belly lol no lie my mom was playing it when she was pregnant with me. Me being the youngest of 6 kids music was something very much apart of my life growing up. We got 50 years of these guys? Let’s go for another 50 years. 100 years of great rock n roll! And beyond!

AC/DC never would have made it without Bon Scott. Don't ever forget that and also remember that Bon's DNA is all over the album Back In Black. Malcolm Young told Bon Scott that they had recorded the music and that Bon can come into the studio in a week to record HIS lyrics. No-one comes into a band, who is not known for writing lyrics, and 2 / 3 months later come out with the 2nd highest selling album, with Michael Jackson's Thriller being 1st, in the lyrical style of Bon Scott. Bon Scott's family receive royalties from Back in Black and nothing for the following albums. Listen to the albums - HIGHWAY TO HELL, BACK IN BLACK & then FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK and then you will understand. The reason to credit Brian was to start fresh. I understand the reason for doing it. I just don't agree with it. I think I have the right to my opinion having been in the business as a guitarist/singer/song writer for 33 years and I love AC/DC. Cheers. Johno

The experts in this documentary talk a lot about the (alleged) simplicity of AC/DCs music. Let's assume for a moment that this statement would be right: Have you ever heard a good cover version of an AC/DC-song? I haven't. If AC/DCs music was so simple you would hear a lot of copycats all around the world. But nearly nobody dares to play their songs because it would be musical suicide. AC/DCs music may not be very complex but it is nearly impossible to copy: They seem to play "dirty", but if you listen well enough you realise how exact they play. This precision combined with their furious energy is everything but simple. It's perfection.

Actually music is the opposite, the easier stuff to play is that hardest stuff to copy cause theres nowhere to hide. The more there is going on the easier to hide your lack of talent it becomes. Simple 3 chord rock is the hardest stuff to get right and make sound like them.

Colin Hay of "Men at Work" is the perfect replacement 4 BrianJohnson 10 times better than Axle Rose reason being Colin Hay is Bon Scott the former lead singer of ACDC!
ACDC fans are in for a shock! Bon Scott is alive and well. He is Colin Hay of "Men at Work" Because is it coincidental that they are both Aussies with Ancestral Roots to Scottland???
" The reason why he wanted out! The long time away on tour from his family and the demands of being on the road was more than he could take!
He wanted to make music on his own terms and likewise to go on tour at his own conveinience!
The song "Back in Black" was his resignation to move away from the spotlight!
The lyrics were his signature resignation and the clue to how he would depart from the Band!
"Back in black I hit the Sack! (Bon Scott was referring to how he would be supposedly found dead whlile he was asleep!
and leaving the Spotlight by slowly fading to the darkness of returning back to a life of normacy away from the bright lights!
"I have got nine lives! (He is referring to how he survived many dangerous events a Bike accident, alcoholisn and how he was going to reinvent himself!)
"I have got "Cats eyes" (This is a important clue that he has successfully changed his identity!
And the only way you would ever know its him if you ever saw him again is He had this rare "eye condition" that looked like how a Cat looks around because they would operarate independently of each other and moving in different directions!
Now some people may say wait a minute they have different Birth dates! This is a common practice when hiding ones true identity together with a change of hairstyles!
But I think he still played a active role in the Band with ACDC as a "Ghost Writer"
because every song that ACDC sang after Bon Scotts supposed death sounded like he still had his "trait mark signature" on all of ACDC's songs!
So its up to Colin Hay of "Men at Work" if he wants to come out "the darkness" of "Back in Black" to the Spotlight" to hey MTF's guess whose back from a "Back in Black" hyatus!
And is there any photos of Bon Scott in a Coffin in a funeral service?? And how many photos does Colin Hay have of himself in his earlier years with him and his family???
The same goes for Morgan Freeman who is actually "Jimi Hendrix" and "Lady Gaga" who is actually "Amy Winehouse!
And is it coincidental that all three just happen to burst on the Social Scene shortly after the supposed passing of these legendary "Musical Icons?????
Can you imagine if all three decided to tour together. And their Band name would be called "Grievance Clean Detox Revival???
    Sincerely,
    Patrick S.N. Iriarte

@@lorettasearcy1471 As a Scot, I can tell you unequivocally, that Brian is not Scottish & neither is his accent. He was born in in Dunstan, County Durham, England, which later changed to become part of Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, Northumbria, England. His mother was Italian, his father English & served in the British Army during WWII. I assumed that you'd know what a Geordie accent was, so put that, but there are subtle differences, between the various areas. It was why Brian's first band was named Geordie & he still retains his strong Geordie accent. He is English & so is his accent !
