You have to add bights to make the diameter larger.

How do you know how thick to cut your string to cover your thickness of your project you are putting the knot over, does circumference come into it.

You would need to tighten in on a base of some sort such as a wooden or metal ring.

28" is plenty to start this one.
Would this work on a semi flat surface, like making a grip on a handle for a crescent wrench?
