  • This video showcases some of the changes what Sanzaru made into the HD remaster, compared to the original PS2 release by SuckerPunch.
    There are some small things that I did not mention, like Carmelita's bossfight vs. Muggshot in Sly 3 not having soundtrack for some reason in the HD version.

    The most notorious change for me besides the change in music for the first game was the delays in some interactions. For the first game, one significant delay was Mz. Ruby’s attacks not in line with the music, causing you to slip up. But Sly 3 had the delays to a fault.

    For those wondering, the Sly 2 cutscene was censored because law in the EU sees any depiction of gambling as an age rating boost, meaning the game would have gotten a high-T or even M rating from just that.

      @dvda9725 Před rokem +9

      Kinda makes me wish they'd found a comedic PG way of getting around it, like depicting something else but making it obvious what they were really hinting at, like what they did in Sly 3's bar brawl segment where you chug what would obviously be beer but hilariously it's lemonade.

      Though they technically did it, the blame mostly falls on Sony. Neither Jak not Ratchet trilogies are free from new bugs, Ratchet mostly graphical (and Pyrocitor being OP in Europe), while Jak has Racist Kor and punch glitch, which is far from trivial.

    • @NotOrdinaryInGames
      @NotOrdinaryInGames Před rokem +11

      @@Snaaake_Beater Punch glitch is when sometimes (like 1 in 25) a punch will go off in a random direction. Racist Kor is a completely textureless face of Kor in the construction site cutscene, every single playthrough. Shiny metal textures are all wrong, and the guard chase music is missing notes. The Sly port has exposed animations (or lack thereof) visible on the sides of the screen, since the game was intended to be 4:3 forever. Also various glitches including out-of-sync music with Mz Ruby. Ratchet port has a myriad of graphical glitches and the legendary Big Helmet in cutscenes. God of War though? That port is apparently perfect, being made from the PS2 copies by the porting masters themselves, Blue Point. Rule of thumb: most PS3 ports of PS2 games are bad. You have NO REASONS to buy most of them, since PS2 is easily emulatable these days at long as your computer does not suck.

    One small difference, in the form of a glitch, between the two is a minor graphical effect used in Sly 2 when Bentley walks into some water tower in Paris to readjust the water pipes.
    There was this pretty cool effect in the PS2 version where time would freeze and the screen would flip around after Bentley entered the interior of the tower to remove the outside environment and flip the screen again to add the interior of the tower into the picture.
    When I got to this part in the PS3 version, this effect was completely broken where all the screen did was turn a still image of Bentley reaching the loading zone upside down and then POOF Bentley was all of a sudden inside. I know it’s minor, but the issue was glaring enough to me like it was with the Ms Ruby to make me question how thorough they were with porting, testing, and debugging.

      I think it was because a lot of the same/similar instruments that it used were also used in the soundtracks for The Dread Swamp Path, Piranha Lake/Down Home Cooking (both PS2 & 3), and A Ghastly Voyage (PS2). What I personally do not understand is why they did not just remake the original PS2 song for Ghastly Voyage as it was ALREADY great and, dare I say, badass enough to begin with and just made an entirely new one that (IMO at least) is kinda underwhelming compared to its predecessor. Then again, they DID remove the original transition sequences and drum fills that play in between the normal level songs and the enemy encounter/alarm trip ones as opposed to just remaking them or leaving them in unedited entirely so I do not think we can expect much more.

    The Sly 3 episode 3 intro is actually identical between the original NTSC PS2 release and PS3, the one shown on the left as "PS2" is the PAL PS2 release, which I assume was changed so that it didn't zoom in on English text when it could very well be a German or Italian or Spanish, etc., version. I actually only have played the PS3 version since I never had a PS2 as a kid so this is interesting for sure to me, I had an Xbox, and the compilation trilogy was one of the games I grabbed pretty quick after I got a PS3 for Christmas of 2011 since these games had always been one of the PS2 games I was interested in I wasn't able to play. And to this day these 3 games are among my favorites, and it has nothing to do with childhood nostalgia I was 22 when I played through the trilogy from October to December in 2012 about a year after I got the PS3, one Sly game a month at the end of 2012. I looked at when I got the trophies, which trophy timestamps are good for seeing when you played something, even if you don't care about trophies it can help you remember when you played something! And make you feel older, lol. Of course I still have my copy and the PS3 I played it on! Actually funny enough the day I finished and Platinumed Sly 3 was December 21st,2012, the day the world was supposed to end according to so many people because they thought thats why the Mayan calendar ended on that date. Although my local time here in Pacific time USA was the 20th it was 8:30 PM and already the 21st overseas.

      @@am_infinite Oh yeah, don't misinterpret, Sly 2 and 3 were handled competently enough (even if I DO think the removal of the menu movies when you scrolled over certain episodes in 2's Episode Selection is a LITTLE sus), and I do think the remastered songs in Sly 1 are pretty damn good (minus the new one for A Ghastly Voyage), but I just CANNOT get over the fact that the drum fills and transition sequences that played between the normal level songs and the enemy encounter/alarm trip ones were removed outright as opposed to being left in unedited or at the very least remade. Maybe it is just because I grew up with the originals but just watching gameplay of the Collection version of Sly 1 vs. the original and hearing HOW the soundtrack was handled just feels REALLY jarring and disjointed.
      And the downright BUTCHERING of Mz. Ruby's boss fight is just inexcusable.
      (The OST itself is SOLID, but the desynchronization just cripples it entirely and Sanzaru do NOT have ANY excuses for the way they massacred that fight.)

    Another thing not mentioned is the lighting is a lot brighter in the ps3/vita version. I get they’re doing it to “improve” graphics, but I don’t really like it because as a thief, it’s supposed to be a darker, grittier game than say ratchet and clank. The levels are supposed to take place at night and with the lighting changes, it just feels you are walking around during daytime with guards straight up ignoring you. So strange
