      Cody Clark no this is not true copyright laws didn't protect Germany. It is true that they tried to file a suit but they weren't successful.

      Zack Musick they did win, but with the Germany being the enemy of the world and good old mix of American exceptionalism America never paid

      "A U.S. Patent Court found that the Army had violated Mauser’s patents and required the U.S. Army to pay the private Mauser manufacturer, Ludwig & Loewe/DWM patent royalties until war with Germany was declared some years later." This is what i found about it.

    As the old saying goes, if you're going to steal, then steal from the best. Well the Americans did a very good job with that. The 03 is basically a Mauser 98 in all but name. There's a very tiny differences but overall they're so similiar they may as well be clones. Still that being said, it's a fabulous weapon, If I can't have a German Mauser 98 [I had one before but I had to part with it unfortunately] I won't complain with an 03. The main thing I don't like about the 03 are the sights. The Americans love apurture [aka peep] sights. Which is great at the range, But in battle... not so much.
    Though I do adore the .30-06 round. I know the M1 Garand is the star and it is an excellent gun, if I had to pick one in for battle, I would take the Garand, Still the 03 is a very fine weapon indeed. I usually don't like American stuff, I find their products tend to favour mass production over everything else, still The Springfield 1903 is a fine example of craftsmanship and one I would not be ashamed to have.

    One thing I just hate about old military rifles is the battle sights or just bottom zero is hundreds of yards. For instance the 03's Buffington sights are sight to 550 yards when in the down position. The Gew98 is the same way! Why does it only go down to 400 meters? Thats almost 6 feet of underhold! Like aim at the ground to hit someone in the head at 100 meters.
    WHY?????

    • @linkfreeman1998
      @linkfreeman1998 Před rokem

      People back then thought of using the rifle in long range volley fire formations, thats why they didnt care much about the short range. Oh, and certain rifles including the 1903 has magazine cutoff so u can use it as single shot rifle to preserve ammo, apparently.

      @@BRB914 I heard that 150gr should be a safe bet. I am new to this myself. Just put a low serial number on layaway. From the research I have been doing, there were supposedly tests that were done using higher pressure rounds. Apparently this whole debate is almost as popular as the 45 ACP vs 9mm debate lol. I bought some Sellier and Bellot 150gr that is supposedly designed for M1 Garand, so would be lower pressure. Hopefully will be able to pick it up and put rounds through her this next weekend.
