Dr. White defends the affirmative: “The Bible teaches that within the one Being that is God there exists eternally three coequal and coeternal persons, namely, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
Bro. Joe Ventilacion argues the negative. This event was held in Rapid City, SD, in the Best Western Ramkota Convention Center at 6PM MST, on April 21st, 2017.
This event was arranged and coordinated by the ministry of South Dakota Apologetics.
Iglesia ni Cristo was founded by Felix Manalo in 1914 in the Philippines. The phrase “Iglesia ni Cristo” is Tagalog (the language of the Philippines) for “Church of Christ.”
Sadly, while claiming to be a church, Iglesia ni Cristo has all of the basic elements of a cult. The first and foremost is a single charismatic leader who claims to have a special revelation from God. Felix Manalo was a former Catholic who abandoned Catholicism in his teens.
He experimented with several Protestant denominations and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Manalo finally started his own church, the Iglesia ni Cristo, in 1914. When a schism in the church appeared in 1922, he began claiming to be God’s prophet in an effort to accumulate power and re-assert his leadership over the church.
Some of his claims are that the Iglesia ni Cristo was prophesied in the Bible. The specific prophecy quoted is Isaiah 43:5-6, “Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you. I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth.”
Iglesia ni Cristo interprets the word east as “Far East” (based on a faulty translation) and claims that it points to the Iglesia ni Cristo being created in the Philippines.
The Iglesia ni Cristo claims to be the one, true Church of Christ because they are called “the Church of Christ” and they can point to some verses in the Bible which use the phrase “church of Christ.” Most notably, they point to Romans 16:16, which says, “Greet one another with a holy kiss.
All the churches of Christ greet you.” However, in this verse, the “churches of Christ” isn’t referring to the name of a particular church, but to all the churches that Paul visited that followed Jesus Christ.
They also read from a mistranslation of Acts 20:28 that reads “church of Christ,” but the actual Greek reads “church of God.” Whether or not a church is named the “Church of Christ” is irrelevant. There are many churches that have “Church of Christ” in their name; that doesn’t make them the one true church.
Another example of defective doctrine in the Iglesia ni Cristo is their Christology. They deny the divinity of Jesus Christ (as do all cults and false religions) and assert that Jesus was created by God and enabled to do miraculous works by God.
True churches recognize that there are other Christian churches outside of their own denomination that are rightfully Christian and that we can all believe different things on secondary doctrines, yet still all be saved. Jesus Christ Himself said that salvation is found in Him, that He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6), not membership in a specific church.
As Christians, we must be wary of the teachings of false messiahs and cultic offshoots of Christianity, such as the Iglesia ni Cristo. We must be well grounded in the word of God so that we can spot these purveyors of falsehood. We must also realize that the people who are trapped in these cults need the salvation that can be found in Jesus Christ-the only Son of God-just as much as we did when we were lost in our sin.

@@ven6372 John 17:1-3 (Idk why you excluded verse 2) discusses about Jesus praying to be glorified and this shows his nature as a human. We, trinitarians believe that Jesus possesses 2 natures both human and divine. That's why you see verses that says Jesus is both human and God. Jesus and the father are distinct but not separate. I encourage you to also read and analyze the remaining verses of that very same passage carefully (John 17:4-5) because that doesn't sound like a "mere man" to me.

Each verse has a corresponding truth to it that only a TRUE MESSENGER of God could interpret in accordance with the Truth. I would say that important things is to be happy with not knowing everything. That's to my mind is the key that fundalementalist scientists and fundamentalist biologists thought have this obsession with knowing everything, that they have the key to the truth and everything else is false! I’m part of the Restoration Movement Churches of Christ/ Christian churches when American Missionaries arrived in the Philippines around 1901; Felix Manalo, who was a former member of the original church of christ group break away from the Trinity teachings and started INC (Iglesia ni cristo) around 1914. They’re different. What they teach is dangerous others are misled.
The original Church is the Church of Christ 1914 thats the reason why bro manalo was set apart to preach the true teaching of the monotheistic faith and that is the teaching of Christ Himself in John17:1-3 that the Father alone is the only true God and this leads to eternal life and does not misleads people....

Elohim means PLURAL OF MAJESTY, based on old hebrew translations, it literally only is given to the single entity of God. Not to the trinity, nor the son and especially not of the holy spirit.
If Elohim becomes a plural form in meaning, contradiction will exist because God said hes the one and only God.

1st point. Dont just use a single bible translation. Use multiple ones. You will get a different terminologies that are being used. And some of your verses will have contradictions to the rule of "One and Only God" as per stated by Christ himself on John 17:3. Because the term used in other scholars/translators regarding the term God is often interchanged with Lord (no direct description of who it refers to)
2nd point. If Christ is God, as your statement says, theres a contradiction with the statement that he made on Isaiah 43:10. This makes point of trinity null and void. Because Jesus and the Holy spirit was only declared to be God AFTER THE APOSTLES DIED.
3rd point. From a historical perspective. Changes of Jesus' Arianism was declared in the Council of Nicaea, 325AD, the apostles are long dead. IF AND ONLY IF JESUS WAS GOD, this shouldve been clearly taught by Jesus and his apostles themselves. However, ask any biblical scholar, they will say Jesus himself has never explicitly said he is the one true God. The only time this belief was changed was when the Nicene creed dictated that Jesus is God (325) and as well as the Holy Spirit (381). Note theres been a history change. Jesus wants the preservation of laws, not change.
4th point. The origin of "Godliness" of Jesus is questionable. While theres no debate about Jesus being the Son of God. Here comes another point of contradiction between the nature of Jesus and God. God has no beginning and no end. Jesus was born and died. That makes the validity of God's nature that has no beginning to be void.
But let us say Jesus was in the beginning, does that mean the God the Israelites believed in was Jesus all along? However, theres no statement in the bible that the old Israelites, the time during Abraham up to the prophets, that they prayed for the Son during their time, always to the Father. If he was there, why was it stated in 1 Peter 1:20 that he was still FOREKNOWN? Foreknown means before it happens.
See the point that im making? Jesus was planned for humanity. He didnt have an existence yet.
5th point. The usage of "I and the father are one". This is crucial part of the contradiction between Jesus as God is understanding. Because this can be translated in another phrase, "God is with me" in another bible translation. So if we stick the the rule of Jesus statement that the Father is the one and only true God, anyone that uses the "God is with me", according to your interpretation, becomes God(?). Because in Psalms 16:8, it is stated that "God is always with me", does that mean Adam, Abraham and other authors of PSALMS are GOD? See another point?
6th point. Cross examination of consistency. Where do you think Jesus powers comes from?
IF HE IS GOD, as you stated, who gave his powers? who gave his divinity? Matthew 28:18-20, his authority and powers were given to him.

Dr. James White does not understood how Bro. Joe explains John 14:28. That verse shows that Christ is going to the Father, not becoming one BEING with the Father, Lord Jesus didn't even says in that verse that He is going to the place where He originally came from.
Dr. James White changed/added his own explanation (own opinion) to Lord Jesus True Words. How did he say so? In that verse, Jesus says that He is going to the Father (it's simple). But how Dr. James answer? He says that Christ is going back to where He came from.

No. God was with the Word, God sent the Word, and God was the Word, Who was the Word? ain't Jesus the word? Because nobody could see God, hear God, he made himself known through Christ (the WORD). God could not communicate with lower dimension beings like us humans, in his true form which is the spirit, the energy, the invisible, and eternal. And that is why he sent the word to this lower dimension through a physical body in his son Jesus. Again, was God the word? certainly, it is pretty obvious in the scripture which said that GOD was with the WORD, God sent the WORD, and God was the WORD. When the word died, or when Jesus died, did his spirit die? No, because the spirit was God, what died is his physical body or the vessel in which he sent the word, the physical body which was Jesus. Obviously, the INC minister whoever that is, could not comprehend on that statement.

Therefore the greatest witness of them all - (Christ), clearly stated that the the Father is also His God and Father! In fact this verse alone should close all doors as to whom the true God really is; in addition, Christ introducing His Father as the only true God in John 17:1 and 3.
So now that I have proven without any shadow of doubt that John 1:1 clause ( a ), ( b ), and ( c ) does not support the interpretation that God became a man in Jesus Christ, other than that the Logos or Plan of God is the fulfillment of God’s plan of salvation when God “made” His plan “become flesh,” which was fulfilled in no other than in His Son Christ Jesus! (Jn. 1:14), (Lk. 1:27, 31 ), (Lk. 2:7,11).
This is a clear manifestation of God's DIVINE PLAN of salvation being fulfilled when Christ was born of Mary. Thus, Christ was indeed a created being before the foundation of the world as the LOGOS or PLAN of GOD. Christ did not preexist yet in physical or spiritual form in heaven. Therefore the "beginning"in John 1:1 clause "a" is the plan of God about Christ and salvation before all things were created by God. Christ was already part of God's master plan of salvation in that particular begining of time. Thus, John 1:1 clause "a" cannot refer to God Himself, for God has no beginning and no end as we have well established.
I hope this will enlighten you on our position of this biblical Truth.
Remember TRUTH does NOT contradict TRUTH. God, Christ and the Apostles do NOT contradict themselves in Scripture. PLAIN and SIMPLE.

I'm uncomfortable with the term Trinity, the Bible never mentioned about the Trinity but in the book of Revelations the was a mention about the "seven spirits of God" so let's not add to the idea of the Trinity of Gods because it has a pagan connotation to it
