  • This electric Art Nouveau candlestick went to a grandmother in the attic, who received it as a wedding gift in 1905.
    Characteristics
Art Nouveau is based on the floral concepts of the British textile designer William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, which returned to folk traditions and romanticism to the craftsmanship of medieval masters and thus opposed the simplicity of processing industrial products driven by the Industrial Revolution. This style was also strongly influenced by English painters known as the Pre-Raphaelites.
The greatest secession of Art Nouveau reached between 1890 and 1910 in Europe and the United States. In France it is called Art nouveau, in Germany Jugendstil, the Czech name "secession" (German Sezession, from the Latin secessio branching) comes from art associations, which in Berlin (1891), Munich (1892) and especially in Vienna (Wiener Sezession, 1896) separated from conservative academies.
The main features of the Art Nouveau style are considered to be ornamentality, flatness and a fondness for unusual colors and aesthetic use of various materials. The supple Art Nouveau ornament expresses a special quality of Art Nouveau feeling, which avoids emotional fluctuations and strong will and tends to a balanced mood. The Art Nouveau line is a smooth undulating curve, which evokes in the viewer the impression of non-violent movement in an area, the monotony of which is balanced by color. Art Nouveau looks for unusual shades of color and binds them according to the principle of harmony and contrast. The central feature is stylization, Art Nouveau tries to overcome the pregnant themes of historical styles and turns directly to natural shapes (leaves, flowers, human and animal body). Beautiful job. It looks like you have a matched set. This was a more complicated restoration than it appeared. Replacing the wiring and connecting it correctly took a lot of work. Now the candlesticks are not only beautiful, they are safe to use for many years to come. The brass polished beautifully. Thank you and smiles from the USA.

The end of this video is a tearjerker and thinking about the person that originally designed and made this lamp the smile that must be on their face from wherever they are.

A beautiful job. I could wish for two things: (1) that you had used the original switch; (2) that you would add on-screen commentary to tell us what materials you are using at each step, and their purpose.
