Still a 2 time World Champion, an Olympic Champion and World Record holder. Not to mention one of the few people to be world class in all of the outdoor sprint events.

Wayde Van Niekerk is very underrated. He only lost two races from 2015 to 2017.
His world record is very disrespected. I've seen a lot of people saying Certain athletes could run under 43 seconds. They weren't saying this when Johnson held the record
Bruh. I think it's because we have so many talented athletes competing in the same Era. This Era has about 5 or 6 sub 44 second sprinters. More than any in history.

@Panashe Nhavira I was just trying to make sense of why people think his record can be beaten so soon, but still they are disrespecting it too much.
That 43.03 is from another dimension yet they think just because there's more fast 400m guys that'll be broken. Nah. It's not that easy. If anyone has a chance of breaking that record it's the great man himself.
If someone does run faster than 43.03 then they would have to be in the same race as Van Niekerk to able to run that fast, because he always pulls people through to run fast times

I still get goozebumps thinking back to that 43.03. Still the greatest sportmoment I ever saw for me
I was so gutted for him when he wasn't able to make it to the finals in Tokyo.
I would have loved to just see him run on the biggest stage after all he went through.

If Wayde didn't get injured, he would've sent everyone to the next dimension. I'm not too worried about him though, because now sprinters are able to PR in their early to late 30s and mans is only 29. I don't think we've seen the last of Wayde Van Niekerk

The only issue is that ACL tears are so brutal that it is rare to see athletes be able to be in better shape after such an injury.. Of course there are athletes that have managed to do so but this is more of an exception rather than the norm
His 2016 400m run is the greatest performance in any sport of all time!
He was with me in high school one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. Not just a stunning athlete but a stunning person.
I have always been impressed by his ability to keep his form together through the entire 400m.
I remember watching the race with my brother and I said to him " WOW this guy isn't slowing down " it was astounding the pace he kept and his split times were awesome and people overuse the word awesome now ...they say " I've just eaten an awesome burger " but when something is truly awesome it just leaves you dumbstruck ....you know you've witnessed greatness and them moments are few and far between

He is still one of the all time greats of sprinting even if he were to retire today but I’m still hoping he can return to his best.

It is very sad that he was struck down in his prime. He's been one of the most remarkable athletes. The fluidity, speed and grace of his running has been captivating. His 400 world record was jaw dropping.
The only thing you left out is that he won the silver in the 200m at the 2017 world championships
Simply the best at the 400m. No one has come close. I remember watching him in a race against James and one of the top American runners. He beat them and collapsed afterwards. After that I knew he only needed a bit more conditioning and he would soon be ready to break Johnson's record. And he did. There are two runners that I believe can challenge for global titles after injury and he is one of them. His rehab and build up is very important.
I was so shocked when I heard about his injury... I'm not a south African but I do love being able to witness world record performances and history in the making... So sad about him... Hopefully he might return, let's hope so

Agreed his last 5-10 vids have been engaging almost like a history lesson, and I eve watch the ones I didn't use too like long distance and shotput and enjoyed them and now know more for it. In fact I pretty much know all the top contenders in every category now cos of this channel
It’s a shame that Wayde Van Niekerk suffered such an injury. I was super excited to see what he would be able to accomplish as he continued reaching new heights of his track and field career. I believe that he could have easily broken the 400m world record yet again if he didn’t get injured. He will always be remembered as quite possibly the greatest 400m athlete/endurance sprinter to ever grace a track.

What a tremendous athlete! I ran the 400 way back in the day (at a D1 school), so know how grueling it can be. His effortless stride and perfect cadence was beauty to behold. An athlete that could have done so much more, save the injuries. Thanks for the vid.

I knew he was an unbelievable 400m runner but didn't have a clue that he was so fast over 100 and 200m. I doubt we will see his achievements matched in my lifetime.
There is no "what if". He is simply in a class of his own regarding versatility at all four types of sprints. No one can do that. It's not even close.
I still believe Wayde can get back to top not breaking his world record, but number one in the World

Yohan Blake is maybe the biggest "what if" athlete track and field will ever see.
Yohan Blake would have broken at least one of Bolt's records. He almost took down his 200m
@@stevechicco1158 Bolt ran against the wind, Blake ran with it. Blake had a slow start because of lack of focus, maybe Bolt ran a tiny bit slower at one point of his race due to lack of focus too, who knows? In summary, Bolt could probably have run even faster too, so Bolt is still the best 200m runner of all time by a lot.

It's rather sad and a tragedy that such a versatile and champion sprinter like Wayde van Niekerk was lost to the track so early in his career in 2017 due yo injury! I miss him and his excellence of performance on the track. Pray that he recovers and stages a glotious comeback. He is such a joy to see on the track sprinting like a Cheetah.

I was surprised to hear that he tore up his knee playing rugby of all sports. I know these athletes need a break from the track and want to have some fun, but wow, to risk all that talent. There wont be another Wade for a generation or two thats for sure.
As Danie Craven, SA great head of rugby said when he was struck down by cancer. " when life is at its best, it turns around and gives you a klap " ( punch ) unfortunately that what happened to Wayde. But he is so determined, he can make a comeback.

I think he's also the WR holder (or WB) for the straight 200. I hope he regains some of that 2015-2017 form.
My biggest "what ifs" are probably Noah Ngeny and Yohan Blake, although there are so many you could include, like Genzebe Dibaba, who was beating world records all over the place including 3 different distances in 14 days, before having a string of injuries.
Noah Ngeny was an awesome athlete, real shame he seemed to have issues with the Kenyan federation.
Dont forget he also got a world silver in 200m in London 2017. Unreal.

Wade Van Niekerk.He’s indeed an incredible athlete. How is he doing now! Although he’s a 5th placer in Tokyo Olympics ,i’m hoping he will bounce back in the next Olympic games.God will bless him with good health .From anchorage alaska usa 🇺🇸
WVN is doing very well , he is busy training hard and preparing for the next season. He is based in Florida now and is working with new coach Lance Brauman since about June this year ( who also coaches Noah Lyles and Shaunae Miller ) . He is very positive and confident of what he can still achieve once he is fully fit.
He's not done, angelo Taylor won gold in the men's 400 hurdles at 2000 Olympics, didn't make the final in 2004, came back and won gold again in 2008. Same with Felix Sanchez won gold in 2004, lost in first round of 2008 came back won gold in 2012. Kerry clement won the silver in 2008 came back and won gold in 2016. I'm looking for this young man to win gold 2024 and maybe break his world record

Yes, I just mentioned him. Also Silvio Leonard of Cuban. The winner of the 76 Olympics 100, Crawford from TT was injured when ran in the Munich final 4 yrs before. He dropped out half way in the race. Borzov won. Crawford went to Montreal and won. He beat Don Quarrie and Borzov. It still one of the biggest shock in Olympic 100m history. Well this year's Tokyo final is now the biggest shocker for me. The Italian did the job. Congrats to him. They can never take that away from him unless ........
WVN will be strong in 2022! Expect him to reach mid 43 and 19.7. He should be a medal contender in the 2022 WC.

Fully agree with you Harsha - if he remains injury free he will have an excellent change to also win the 400m gold in the 2024 Olympics in France when he will be 32. There are lots of positives counting in his favour . He managed his comeback from injury very well. He got a great work ethic and is super competitive and motivated ( dont be fooled by his humility) .He got excellent speed , strength and endurance . He is lean and mean with the stride of a gazelle. This is my rational and unbiased opinion.

Talk about India - given South Africa's ( SA ) slave history at the Cape of Good Hope from 1652 -1808 ,I'm sure Wade Van Niekerk have some Indian blood running in his veins ( which i do also have ). Reason being : in 1652 The Dutch East Indian Company -DEIC ( the most wealthiest and powerful company at the time - trading in spices and slaves ) set up a half way house at the Cape ( Southern Tip of Afica ) to supply passing ships with fresh produce on route to India them trading in spices and other goods . The DEIC needed labourer's to work on the farms producing the fresh produce for the passing ships and brought slaves from India , Malaysia, Sri Lanka , Indonesia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, and Angola to the Cape to work the fields. The various ethnic groups ( including the indigenous Khoi -Khoi ) would eventually mix and interbreed including with the white slave masters. Overtime a very diverse ethic group would evolve known as Coloureds(mixed race ) in the Western Cape of SA -about 4.5 million today ( mixture of Asian , White , Khoi , Black ) They come in all different shades from very white to very black and everything in between - about 70% would be Wade's skin colour. I also happen to fall in that group. Now there's a little bit of South Africa history with some Asian connection. Did you know ? The largest Indian city outside India is Durban in SA 😃

This guy is exceptional because he broke the 18 years record of the unreal Johnson who had no competition in the 400m either and Van Nekirk also broke Johnson's 300 world record 17 after Johnson set it and despite not getting near Johnson's 200m times he still became the only man in history to run under 10 for the 100m,under 20 for the 200m and also the same in the 2 longer races.Imo he's not to far behind Bolt andJohnson as an all time great and I hope he comes back to his best and gets injury free.

Also, it is a shame Usain didn't include 400 in his stuff. He did the then-second best 300 ever (on a wet track!!!) and still has the WR at 100, 150, and 200. His PB at 400 was only 45.28 but looking at his 30.97 at 300, he could have EASILY worked to beat the WR. Unfortunately, his attitude was a bit disappointing.
It makes you wonder ..when your running at speeds that are at the edge of human limitations can the body only take so much .
Great athletes are like perfect storms ...they've got the genetics, motivation and that crazy will to win , but is it just too much on the body sometimes.
Usain bolt was a true freak of nature...a proper one off
Injuries are always marking a certain LIMIT to a physical performance, and seeing he was the only one all around sprinter, he achieved his maximum, the injury was just awaiting......sooner or later he had to have retired, just like everybody else-Johnson, Bolt, etc...-, he did it after breaking all those records, many athletes get injured way before that level he achieved......
Jesse Owens set world records in the 100, 200, long jump, and 400 relay in 3 hours.
Wayde in good health is able to run 42.97. If he didn't slow down 15-20m before the line in Rio 2016, his WR would be under 43.
