- In this video, I introduce the Delonghi Dedica Arte EC885 home espresso machine. This one is the offspring of the EC680 and EC685, but it comes with the huge upgrade of a proper steam wand! Check out my review and demonstration of this machine, as I show this machine preparing espresso with the included pressurized baskets, as well as a non pressurized extraction, and milk steaming for latte art!

Any suggestion for the budget grinder?
Just got mine few days ago, your video was very helpful to understand how to go about the delonghi arte so I can enjoy a great cup of coffee every day now. Thanks for posting.
Awesome, I am happy to hear that! Have fun with your Dedica!
I have had this for several years. It’s still as good as ever. Love it!
Awesome! Glad you're enjoying it.
I've just ordered mine and can't wait to play with it! I have to say, your videos and reviews helped me with making this decision- I think it's the right one for my needs, coffee making skills and budget at the moment- thank you 😃
Hope you enjoy it! Have fun experimenting!
Always great content, that steam wand is certainly a super upgrade!
Definitely! I quite like the steam wand design.
That's a great review, Tom! :) Love watching your videos.
Thanks so much, Arthur!
I just got this as my first coffee machine. Was a gift your Christmas, and I love it. I’ve seeing an expert using it! I shall probably be re watching this to get some tips! 😂 so much better having a real coffee machine now, over a pod machine I had for the past couple of years. Still learning, but I shall be making art soon! Thanks for the video
I’m a year late but just bought this as my first espresso machine and love it. I’ve never made my own espresso before. Just moved to Spain from the US. Your videos have been so helpful! I love watching them as the info and demos you provide are excellent! So thank you!
Awesome - thanks for the feedback, and have fun in the USA! Tom
I just got my Dedica Arte ec885 delivered all thanks to you! It's my first coffee machine and I'm extremely happy with the result. Cheers from the UK!
Cheers from Perú!
@10:22 the explanation of pressurized vs non pressurized baskets was so helpful
Brilliant ... short and to the point. Many thanks
Great video thank you, i was hesitant to have it but after watching ur video , i will go for it😍thanks again
Thank you for the amazing review and details… very objective review.. your review really helped me decide on the machine
Thank you for the kind feedback! Have fun with your new machine! 👍🏻
such a helpful review! im considering getting one for myself 😁
Thank you so much for this video, it was really helpful 👍🏼
Waiting for mine to arrive, just ordered one, looking for some decent upgrade after having experimented quite a lot with my previous cheap machine.🤩Thanks so much for the detailed review
Thanks for your feedback, and I hope you like your machine!
Love your channel. Your videos are very helpful. Bought the dedica arte and a bottomless portafilter. It's awesome. Thank you.
Thanks for your feedback, and have fun!
Man I have to say these machines are getting better and better at such a good price point, I have a Gaggia and a niche way more expensive but honestly makes me question it at times, because I’m sure this little machine with some mods would do a great job, had I know way back then I probably would of given this a go with a hand grinder and have tons of fun with it.
Great video as always your awesome 👍🏻
This is in my opinion one of the absolute best starts into espresso. The GCP is nice, but can be a little frustrating at times. Ergonomics are much better on the Dedica, but the GCP has more potential, if you put the work in.
I’ve had both the gaggia classic pro and the dedica. It really really annoyed me that the dedica had better performance on the steam, the gaggia had all these little quirks that you had to work around (such as starting the steam before the light went on) and it was annoying. Ended up selling the gaggia and keeping the dedica.
Hi Tom! I don't usually comment on CZcams, but just wanted to thank you for your down to earth approach to espresso. I found your channel some months ago and I decided to get myself a Dedica Arte + Graef 702 (mostly because of your reviews), and I just received the machine and I couldn't be any happier!
Thanks to your channel and some other top quality videos, I did some testing with the non-pressurized portafilter and got some amazing results out of the box, with no experience whatsoever. So, you must get this a lot, but thanks to the help you provide to people like me who just want to explore this world without spending a ton of money.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback! I really like these kinds of comments, knowing that someone is enjoying their new hobby of espresso at home. :)
Hello Tom. Today I ordered a De Longhi Dedica Arte thanks to your review. I have to admit that you make reviews on italian coffee machines much better than italians do. In fact, after looking up all italian reviews, I could understand the full potential of this machine only by watching your video. I expected more from italians reviews, since they produce this machine and, most of all, since they are so fixated about their espresso coffees. Kudos to you and thank you very much for all the details you provoded in your review.
Thanks Dave! Which italian reviews do you mean? I haven't seen any, since I don't speak much italian. But here's the thing: most italians go to the espresso bar for coffee. Home espresso is much more a thing in other countries, like Germany, USA, Canada, Australia, etc.
Thank you for the video and the review, I was considering buying this DeLonghi model because I liked the design and the fact that it does not take up much space. After watching your video, I'm sure this is the coffee machine I was looking for. Now all you have to do is order it. Greetings from Great Britain.😊
Awesome, hope you enjoy it!
I got one two days a go as a first ever coffee machine thanks to some of your videos on the EC685. Absolutely love it, foaming milk takes a bit of practice but I think I have finally got the hang of it. I'm currently using pre-ground coffee from the shop but it still taste so good. Definitely a great machine for a beginner like myself and it takes up so little room . My biggest problem now is restricting myself to only a couple of cups a day because it tastes so good!
Rock on! Glad to hear that you're enjoying the machine!
Wait till you get some good coffee and two or three different kinds, you will be up to 6 or 7 cups a day for a while........playing with it.
Have you had any problems begin to pop up? Like, the espresso being too cool after it's made, or the wand spitting a lot of water as you do the frothing?
@@PintoSixtyEspresso comes out well for me, you need to purge the steam wand before using it, it spits some water before steaming
@@toddpower46746 cups of coffee is very unhealthy. It has even been linked to increased risk of dementia with time.
This video was super helpful. Thank you. Gaggia it is for me. I didn't even know about this brand until watching your video.
You betcha! Thanks for watching!
Hi,
Thanks for this review, it's very usefull - as always.
👌
This is a really helpful video and has sold me on this machine. I was considering the Gaggia Classic Pro but I think this may be a better entry to espresso making for me.
Thank you for the kind compliment, Holly! Of the two, this one is certainly more ergonomic. The learning curve on the GCP in my opinion is much higher. I hope you like your machine! Tom
Hi Tom, just wanted to thank you for your reviews and straightforward advice. My Dedica 885 arrived today and it's absolutely great. I may be tempted to an open filter at some point once I've actually got the hang of it, but thanks for your help in choosing the right one for my budget :)
What coffee ground are using. Mine has been a nightmare, haven’t poured a single decent shot yet.
always a joy to watch your videos :)
I appreciate that!
Dedica is very good. I have Dedica 685, and i want Dedica 885. Great review, thanks Tom!
Sure thing! Which market are you in? I am just waiting for this to hit the European market...
I have the D685 too. When/if my 685 dies, I’ll get this one ☕️ 😊
I dont drink any coffee with milk and i dont even use the steam wand that often but only the fact that comes with the tools itself its worth buying it over EC685. Always is nice to watch your videos Tom, good job 👍.
Hey Rezart! Totally agree on that one. And, if you ever get guests over who do like milk drinks, then you can make them with this machine, better than the other Dedicas. Cheers!
Absolutely thats way better upgrade than the old ec685 👌.

Thank you for the video!
We dutch love good industrial design; the Delonghi Dedica is an excellent example.
It is small and fast, very nice to look at, programmable, and makes perfect espresso and latte-art.
If Delonghi would supply a bottomless portafilter, my score would be 100%
Ik ga deze ook kopen.
I remember my omas coffee when we visited den Haag, I would grind the coffee (oh the smell 😊 ) I do remember getting a shock as I unplugged it (electricity in Holland does that sometimes) I miss Holland so much 😢
Great review! I have owned this machine since April and love it. I did purchase a non-pressurized porta filter and feel it makes a really nice cup of coffee. Making a proper steamed milk is nice. Still terrible making latte art 😂. One thing to add is you can adjust the temperature of the water making the coffee. I found the shots barely hot with the regular factory setting. Very happy with this machine and the small footprint in my small kitchen. Thanks for reviewing this machine.
Thanks for sharing! I agree, it is a nice machine! I use the hot setting as well. You can also hotbox this machine, by doing a few blurps of the steam mode: czcams.com/users/shorts8GO1b94CgN4?feature=share
Which size of portafilter did you buy for EC885?
@@sheunabashed 51mm flat bottomed
Hello what is the model of portafilter yo show or where to buy? Thnaks.
Bought one a year ago and love it.
Sadly it was advising decalcifying every 3 weeks and sent to repairer who identified the reason being the cockroaches inside the machine.
The Arte was bought as we moved into our brand new unit and never having seen a cockroach in the intervening time we are at a loss to understand how they can have got inside.
As the repair cost is 50% above the cost of a new machine I will replace the machine with new one.
Been a Dedica user for a long time and will continue to be one
Love your videos
Tom, thanks for your excellent reviews and information rich tutorials.
You mention that you don’t think the tip can be upgraded. Do you know if this is still the case? I would love to change to a 3 or 4 hole tip if its possible.
Many thanks,
Chris
Thank you for your video! It inspired me to pick one up and I’ve been using it for 2 months now. I’m really enjoying experimenting with coffee but I haven’t quite been able to dial in an espresso with any crema yet. The pressurized basket was not producing any espresso so I hastily used a hammer/nail to enlarge the hold at the bottom as you recommended in a different video. I’m getting a ratio of 14g in / 70 g out which seems too high. I’m switching from a manual grinder to the breville smart grinder pro to see if that helps, but I’m not sure if it will. What do you recommend?
I just buy this machine ... fantastic, thanks 4 ur video
You are welcome, enjoy your machine!
Thank you for your detailed video on the coffee machine. That model has just been released here in the UK, purchased it from Argos a well-known UK multi-product retailer. I ordered mine today, they are having an early Black Friday sale, from £250 to £200, a wee bargain. This is my first time using one of these machines, I love lattes, however, going to Costa and Starbucks was costing me a fortune, using the money I spent on lattes to fund this coffee machine. Thanks for the links on the bottomless portafilter, I've ordered one before I receive my coffee machine this coming Saturday. :)
Sounds great! I made a video on milk steaming with this machine too. Be sure to check that out. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks, I'll check the video out 😁👍
Fantastic video - thanks so much. I have a 685 that's about 9 years old and started leaking water and doing some other weird stuff like the steam shutting off after a couple of pumps. So I got the 885 and agree it's a definite upgrade. Steam wand is so much better and copes much better with a fine grind. Two questions: (1) there was a pointless "needle" included in the box - I can't quite work that one out - am I missing something? (2) does the depressurised portafilter improve the flavour? I use ground coffee from the shops (NZ has great coffee options) but buy a new packet every 1-2 weeks so it's pretty fresh. My standard flat white tastes great. I could cut down my old portafilter... or do I keep the 665 as a reserve for my brother's holiday house since maybe the leak was just crap stuck in the water tank outlet?
Your videos inspired me. The Delonghi EC885 is excellent. I have these upgrades:
* Open portafiter
* IMS basket
* Leveler
* Mesh - sits on top of puck
* WDT!!
I added the WDT and it makes a huge difference. I have a 1zpresso hand grinder, no "clumps", but, what the WDT does is remove "air pockets" and make the puck much more evenly dense before you tamp. Huge difference!
I adjust EC885 to highest water temp. I put in 15gms, wdt, level, tamp HARD (like 40lbs pressure), put on mesh, run the shot (preprogrammed to 38 ml which gives me 30 ml with a shot).
No channeling, excellent crema.
You can hear the machine working harder and achieving a higher pressure. If it's working really hard, you'll see a little drip coming out of the wand, watch for it!
Dedica is great, but imma add the 3420 to get the better temp.
Hi! Great explanation!
What means "Add 3420"?
@@ruslanetss It means buy the DeLonghi 3420, but I think I'm not going to do that. Coffee is fine right now.
❤
Hi Tom, love the videos. Just bought the 885 based on your Dedica videos. I was wondering if you checked the temperature range if it has changed from prior models. Also, will you be doing a dimmer mod on the 885?
No, it's the exact same thermoblock and group head, so temps are the same. Dimmer mod to come at some point...
great video Tom. Just found the channel and subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
thx a lot - that you also or even present such low budget beginners machines - because of such reels I decided to opt for this SMALL and slim espresso machine and spend much more money for an excellent grinder (the EMIL / BG T64, a further devolpemnt of the g-iota etc. grinders with many improvements aesthetically and functionally as well). go ahead with that stuff;-)!
Glad I could help!
Like you’r reviews, about the rubber thats food grade silicon if i remember correctly so its totally safe if anyone is worried about the taste just do a couple of empty shots before you’r first shot and you’re good to go
just a fantastic expressomachine for that price ..hands down
Thanks for this video
Thank you so much for this video!
I am a barista myself and was looking to buy my first home machine. Couldn't decide which one as I had tried some Breville and Sumbeam machines at friend's houses and none of them reached my expectatives and also my budget wasn't as much.
I bought it yesterday, first used and I already love it ❤
Awesome! Glad to hear you're happy. Have fun!
Thank you for the great review. I away to remove or. replace the plastic parts?
Sure, you can remove the plastic insert from the PF. It's just one screw.
Great videos Tom,any idea if there is possibility to buy Steam wand from 885 model and upgrade 685? Thanks
Hi Tom! Good review, just a bit concerned about all that plastic and rubber bits around the filter. I was about to buy this machine but i wouldn’t like to make a mistake. Would you suggest an alternative? It’s gonna be my first machine. What about kitchen aid? I would prefer one without all that plastic bits.
Thank you for all your reviews. I have been shopping for an espresso machine for over a year now and still undecided. Which do you recommend: dedica arte or maestro plus? Thnx
Hi, I had the same decision to make some weeks ago. I don't know about the quality of the steam wand of these machines, probably Tom can give you an answer in this point. Personnaly, I finally chose the Arte because it is compatible with E.S.E. pods (the Maestro Plus is not). I know using these pods could be a heresy to most of you, but I must say it's pretty convenient in the morning before going to work, when I have just a little time.
Finally a proper steam wand for Dedica series..
Yeah I know. It took them a while, but I like it!
Hola Tom!, gracias por el video. Ya estoy esperando mi máquina también. Que medida tiene el portafiltro despresurizado?. Gracias

Hi Tom, thank you so much for this thorough review. I just purchased the 885M and am so excited to get my brew on. Do you have a recommendation on where I can purchase a non-pressurized Portofilter? Cheers!
Sure, I have links in the video description. Have a look. :)
Simply explained for someone that does not own a coffee machine, i now own one of these, how can i ever drink normal coffee from a kettle again. I also use soya milk which makes no difference. Thanks Tom

Hi! I made it at my local library's 3D printer. Here is the link: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3347421
very nice review. just asking where did you get the 51 mm nice quality bask with smaller holds?
Hi! I got it here from Amazon: amzn.to/3shPHvP
Hi Tom! I was able to see your page via a comment on a reddit page and i'm very thankful for all the vids you've made on the EC885!
We just bought one yesterday and while waiting for the bottomless portafilter, we're gonna practice on the stock one. Question though, how many do you yield on a 14gram ground coffee on the stock pressurized portafilter?
is it supposed to be a bit on the sour side as well?
Howdy! If you're using 14 grams, I'd go for 25-30 grams out, depending on your tastes. The longer you pull the more bitter and dry tastes you will add which might counteract the sourness. Light beans will generally bring sourness too though. Have fun experimenting!
Hi Tom, I bought the delonghi dedica as my 1st espresso machine on Black Friday last year after I saw your video. I enjoyed it as a beginner. However, after a few mos of using something happened with my frother. We don’t use it a lot but I was gonna foam milk to put in my matcha today when all of a sudden the frother stopped working . I was able to purge it initially, but once I started foaming the milk it stopped working. My brother already de scaled the machine. Do you have any idea why it’s not working or do you think it broke?😢 Thanks Tom!
Hi Tom great in depth review. Very much appreciated! What are our options if we want to avoid the plastic or the aluminum components in the portafilter? Do you recommend a different brand machine which is comparable to this brand. Or using a bottomless portafilter would suffice and address the issue at hand, if so what brand for the bottomless portafilter?
Hi there! I would suggest a bottomless PF if you go with the Dedica, yes. Normcore makes a great one. I have one linked in the description.
Which market are you in? Cheers, Tom
I am in Florida
@@herojat Hi! Thanks for that. In the USA, the Normcore is available, which fits perfectly, and has a high quality. I have been using it for months. It is pricey, but worth it: amzn.to/3rwCJJ7
Hi Tom, thank you so much for your helpful videos! One question: Using the bottomless portafilter means I have to drink a double espresso all the time, right (since it’s coming with the double basket)? If I want to drink normal, a „single“ espresso only, the bottomless portafilter is not the right choice for me, is it? Thinking about getting a portafilter with a double outlet instead.
Apart from that, can you recommend a good grinder that is not very costly?
Thank you so much in advance
Grüße aus Deutschland :)
Servus! You can also use a single basket with bottomless PF. Graef makes one. They also make the cheap CM702 grinder that is quite good for the money. Cheers!
Thanks for ur review u make a great coffee videos ,
Btw I have EC685 can I replace the steam wand with this new model or should I replaced with another brand like a rancilio ?
I do not think it is possible. I would just remove the panarello, add a cable tie to the rubber nozzle, and use that to steam on the EC685.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for ur replay , I'm waiting for ur next videos

Hi, Tom! Thank you for the video! I decided to get a Dedica Arte thanks to you & your reviews on this machine :)
I am an absolute beginner on espresso machine and I have a question here, I'm using a manual grinder to grind some coffee to medium-fine / fine (I used 14gr of coffee and the machine's default setting for double shot) but my coffee always tasted sour (I'm sure that's not fruity). Do you have any suggestion on how I can improve my espresso? Thank you in advance!
Hi there! Well sour often means underextracted espresso, which could be from various things. You could try grinding finer to get a longer duration shot, or you could extract longer, to add more bitterness from the other end of the scale. You could also try extracting with a higher temperature. czcams.com/video/8GO1b94CgN4/video.html
@@TomsCoffeeCorner hi! thanks for replying :) afted I commented I watched some of your videos with Dedica and found some people with similar problem. I just tried some of the advices I found, I used finer pre-ground coffee and adjusted the temperature to high and then medium. I got a more bitter & less sour espresso on high temperature. But after a while (maybe around 30 mins, that espresso turned to be more sour. Is that normal?
will try to adjust extract time on my next try :) thanks!
Looks delicious..
Got one of these yesterday, mine came with a milk jug too
Congratulations on the channel, very well explained videos. I would like to ask you if the Delongui Dedica 685 model is worth it, over the 665 model. And I have also seen your video with the improvements and I am interested in buying the machine and making the improvements you propose. I would also like to know if the filter holder and basket from model 665 to 685 are compatible. Thank you very much, sincerely Enrique
Hi Enrique! The EC885 and EC685 are the same besides the steamer. If the price is similar, I'd just go for the EC885. Cheers!
Hey Tom, do you use that piece that increases the number of clicks in the timemore to 30, instead of the original 12? What do you think about it? Is the timemore c2 (original and with 30 clicks per rotation) enough to do a decent espresso?
I have a EC680, wonderful machine. Would like to change out the original steam wand with a Rancilio Silvia, but was wondering if the wand from the EC885 might be a better replacement wand if it would fit and was available for purchase.
I like the steam wand on the new Dedica much more. The Rancilio is narrow, hard to clean, and can burn. I would recommend waiting on a deal for the EC885.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Yes, the EC885 is nice! Could only find one place that had a replacement steam wand for the EC885 & it was out of stock, $34. Not sure if it would fit the EC680, looks different on the end inside the machine. Our EC680 has been really reliable, although I need to replace the steam valve tap as water is dripping out of the steam wand recently.
Hi Tom, is this bottomless portafilter the same you used for the EC685? I have read differing accounts as to whether the portafilters of EC680/685/785 and EC885 are interchangable.
Yes, the brew groups are exactly the same on all Dedicas. Cheers!
Thanks!
Hello! Thank you for this video, so good to see it in action before I purchase. Can I please ask why you're using a non pressurized porta filter? 🤔 I didn't quite understand the reason apart from the height and the lack of plastic. I'm also more than happy making lattes with pre ground coffee. Is there a reason you grind yours fresh, does it taste better? Thanks again 😊
Well it's much more fun to use the bottomless PF and unpressurized basket, and the results are tastier. But it requires more time and honing the skill. But if you are satisfied with the original configuration, that's good, too! Cheers, Tom
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thank you! I just bought this model today, will see how I go ☺️👍
So, when you begin to froth, you do indeed hold the tip ABOVE the milk (it looks slightly submerged in the video)? Won't this cause quite a bit of splatter? Then, you submerge the tip after the milk begins to feel warm, right, in the "rolling phase"? How far, though? The video makes it look like you're about halfway down on the wand. (Sorry for all of my posts. I'm looking to upgrade from the Delonghi Stilosa and might purchase this model. I'm still hesitant since I've had issues with the Stilosa, which I posted on another of your videos. I don't want to buy another Delonghi and have the same issues with inconsistent boiler temperature and constant spitting wand pop up.) Thanks for all you do, Tom.
It depends on the steam power of the machine. For this one, I just abut the surface of the milk to get it started, and submerge a bit once it's rolling. More powerful machines can have the tips submerged right away. It just takes some experimentation. Cheers!
Hi Tom, I just purchased the EC885 and best I could get is just pale light cream that runs light water. I am using the Mr Coffe grinder. Following your advice I purchased beans that are 4 weeks old. Any tips to improve my espresso quality?
Hi Elvio, the Mr. Coffee grinder will not grind fine enough or consistent enough for a proper espresso. How about a Graef CM702?
Is this machine coming with non pressuring porta filter or do you need to but extra one please?
You need to buy the unpressurized basket. Check the video description for some ideas.
@TomsCoffeeCorner hello! thank you for your review. I’m about to buy a Dedica 885 but I saw a different video of yours where you make some comparisons with the ECP31.35 where it’s seems to be the best entry level. In your opinion is this model still better than the dedica one or the 885 has improved with this newer update?Waiting for your reply thanks in advance. Marco.
The ECP can still make better espresso, but the steam wand on the EC885 is really nice.
Thank you very much! We are more in to lattes so I think we will go for the 885! ❤
Hello, just joined this channel. Any reviews for an Espressione espresso maker? I just got an espresso coffee machine combo. Also, if you want to get a bottomless portafilter, would it work as long as it’s the same size as the one that came with the machine?
Hmm, never seen this machine before. There are so many new ones these days! You will need to find a bottomless PF that has the same diameter, but also the same tab configuration (2 tab vs 3 tab). Cheers!
Hahahahaha when you where talking about the dinensions and said: „that makes a very good partner acceptance factor“. Pure gold! 😂
Recently got EC885M and enjoying my morning coffee. However after watching your video i would love to get a bottomless Portafilter. Just wondering if you could recommend one.
Thank you, Tom.😊
Sure thing, I have some listed in the description of the video. Thanks and cheers!
Hello again! I really like your videos. I keep coming back for more! So, I ordered this model, after seeing some of your videos and once I realised how limited my options were to upgrade my Severin machine. Looking forward to trying it out. So, I have a question. You talked a little about the difference between boiler and Thermoblock machines and demonstrated on another De'Longhi model that uses a boiler. Do only boiler machines heat the portafilter and brew head, or are there exceptions? Are there any tricks to getting a more balanced brew temperature with the Dedica? I was thinking of running a blind pull through the portafilter before brewing the espresso, but the tech side to all this is new to me, even though I'm not a beginner. I use top quality beans and know how it should taste when brewed with good equipment and technique. Trying to recreate this on a budget. 😅
Hi there! You can try temp surfing. czcams.com/users/shorts8GO1b94CgN4?feature=share
The Ascaso Steel PID is the one thermoblock machine I know that heats the PF. Anyone else know more?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks, I'll give it a try!
Hi Tom, I just got the Dedica Arte, great stuff. I use coffee beans pre-ground by a local coffee roaster.
Would it make sense to get a bottomless portafilter _without_ an extra home grinder? I mostly do single shots and cappuccino.
No, you will just make a big mess. :) You need to grind yourself if using a bottomless, since the grind fineness, and the time elapsed since grind are important to a bottomless extraction. Maybe save up for a grinder?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner 👍 Sounds plausible, thanks!
Hey again Tom. You use 14g in the nonpressurized basket here, yet the H26 IMS basket that you link to says that it is sized for 15-18g of coffee. Is this the correct basket? Thanks - cheers!
Yes it is, You can also do 14g in there if you want. Cheers!
Hi Tom, joining here to the other guys: is there an option for someone who has an older model to replace to this new steam wand?
Hi Guy, I have not seen this as a spare part anywhere. Maybe someone else has?
Great review. The only problem I've had with this so far is that it yields so little coffee with the default settings. It would have been nice if it produced a full shot and full double shout out of box without having to tweak it.
Why would you use the default settings, you have to dial it the coffee in anyway
How do you play with settings. I’ve never pulled a decent shot out of it yet. Very frustrated TBH
@@usmanhussain8408 you have to hold down the button to programme it. Btw dw part of it is finding the right beans and just practice
@@alinaqirizvi1441 Unlike regular coffee makers, this takes skill. This is something they don't tell you on the box or in the instructions.
hello. what is the color of the coffee maker in the video? Is it 885 GY??? Silver color? or uncoated stainless steel? Which is still better than 685 or 885?? Thanks!
This is the EC885M. It is stainless. I prefer it over the previous models, due to the better steam wand.
Can you help with a coffee dosing funnel for the original portafilter? I'm sure I'll upgrade the portafilter and baskets later but for now just learning and would like a funnel if one exists. Thanks, Scott
Hi Scott, any 51mm funnel should fit. Just check Amazon.
Hi Tom,
I know this is a pretty old video now but hoping you see this and can help! I bought a dedica 885 after watching many of your videos and I'm really happy with it. Only issue I've had is the puck not releasing. When knocking into bin it's coming in bits or not at all. I've tried using less grounds and I've tried tamping less firmly to no avail. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Hi Matt, are you using the included pressurized baskets, or an aftermarket non-pressurized like the IMS in the video description? I find that the pucks slide out super easy when using a traditional, non-pressurized basket, but you're right, it's a pain to get them out of the pressurized ones. I use a spoon for that. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks for replying. I have been using the standard based, I will definitely look into a non pressurised basket if that'll make a difference. Cheers!
Hello Tom, as always great review, thank you. I'm currently thinking about replacement of my EC680 which I love but It starts to have issues after 8 years of duty. I only drink milk coffee and would like to work on my latte art that's why I was thinking about the EC885 as a nice upgrade but also Sage Bambino. I saw your comparing videos but still can't decide. Can you please tell me which of these two would you choose for EC680 upgrade to get nice cappuccino basing on final beverage quality?
( Price is not a factor here but In Poland where I live price of Bambino is about 380 EUR and EC885 is about 200 EUR which is almost 2 times cheaper. I don't want to pay extra 180 EUR if the advantage is not that big but I will if it is worth it. Can you please advise? Thank you in advance!
Hi there! Well, the Bambino Plus is by far the best at steaming milk. But not the plain Bambino. The EC885 is pretty good, but takes a little more finesse than the Bambino Plus, which just has a ton of power. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thank you for your advice. Since my last comment I bought Bambino Plus and tested it. Indeed it is great for latte art and getting right milk texture. But for some reason I was not so impressed by the espresso shot which was kind of weak and with almost no crema (in my preferred grinding mode and coffee brand). I know- it was probably my lack of skill or some adjustments in preparation needed but I compared it to my old Dedica with the same coffee grind and the espresso was so much better. The stock portafilter in Bambino also did not equally distributed the shot between two cups (I always use two form me and wife) so I returned that machine.
Then I bought the Dedica Arte and the sun shines for me again. The machine is simply great, the new wand works better then I thought it will be. Not mentioning the half of money I saved I will spend on the bottomless portafilter, right basket, maybe shower (+new Mercedes, and exotic trip ;) ). Long story short Dedica Arte rules. Go go Delonghi! Cheers Tom!
DeLong should collaborate with you to make a special edition.
Delonghi EC885 wand almost looks like the one you modified in EC685 . Is anything upgraded from the EC685 ? apart form the wand ?
No, the wand is much different. This one’s way better to steam with, and clean. Plus, It’s no burn.
Thanks
Hey Tom, I am looking for a good machine for me and my wife (this means I will have to make two cups all the time!). Which model would you recommend I consider. I’ve had a 4-cup expresso machine for years as I don’t have to prepare it twice, but open for ideas! Thanks a lot.
Hi Felix, will you be making cappuccinos, or espressi? It depends on your budget, and how you will be using it - how much time you want to dedicate to your morning routine.
How do you determine the number of clicks or the grind fineness ?
Hello !
I speak French so..
Very nice vidéo !
Please coud you say What Grinder should i use to make a good coiffe With a bottomless on my Dedica Delonghi.
I really have hard time to make a good coffee juste like you!
Thank you very much to help me!
Bon jour, Pascal! It depends on your budget and preferences. Graef CM702 is a good option on the budget end, but you'll need to add the included spacing washers.
Otherwise, maybe a Baratza ESP or Fellow Opus. Feel free to contact me at my website if you want to. Cheers! Tom
Hello Tom, thank you for great review! I would like to buy the bottomless portafilter, does it hove to be delonghi brand or will any other fit in this machine as well? thank you
Hi Monika, which country are you in? I can recommend one.
Czech Republic😊
Then I would recommend this Neouza one from Amazon.de: amzn.to/3WDETEg
