Awsome video man I scrapped almost the same thing about couple months ago it was four transformers big hearty pieces of copper on them each one had almost 200 lbs of copper in them it’s insane.
great seeing another scrapper doing the same thing.

I'm picking up two very large industrial forklift battery chargers this Saturday for 50 and $35 they both have two very large Transformers in each one possibly more as they are triple phase so wish me luck this is the first time I'm actually buying scrap from a yard so I can break it down and make more money off of it they also agreed to sell me any electric motors at scrap prices so there's no way I can not make a profit off of that as long as I put in the work which I do not mind whatsoever

If you do another transformer wear a respirator mask when cutting it. I use to work for a Canadian based electrical trasformer company. That paper is nomex, its a fiberglass paper. Those sticks in the coils are fiberglass as well. That apoxy is varnish. We use to dip the coils in varnish and bake them.

Here's the best tip for anyone that scraps copper things like this transformer. Cheap wood chisels, the cheaper the better, used with a hammer it cuts right through copper like, well like steel through copper. Place the beveled edge flush with the steel and start pounding, cut down through the windings, you'll be surprised how fast it cuts and best of all no power needed (except your arm), no blades to wear out and no cutting wheels to replace. If you happen to hit something hard just use your hammer to flatten the chisels back down and get after it again.

Black smith love those steel plates from transformers to make Damascus knives. I just fill USPS large flatrate box and sold for $50 a box. The copper wiring, it #2 so I pour muriatic acid to remove varnish and stubborn paper wrap to make it shine copper for #1 bare bright. Be sure to rise in soap water so it doesn’t tarnish later.

You have tons of transformer buyers on Craigslist ....
Also use a wood blade copper plugs the metal teeth up .... sounds stupid but wood blades will cut super easy
Use a sawsaw and a 10" wood blade and you can cut a car body into 7 pieces in less than 3 minutes works great on copper aswell
Cutting tires off rims wood blades work excellent aswell

Only 30 bucks for all that stuff? That's a lot of breakers and some of those might be pretty valuable. Good find. I don't know why there are comments saying you can't scrap the transformer core, it's just clean iron. You can take ac compressors in and scrap then and they have compressor oil in them.

I'm looking for a 5-6Kva transformer to rewire to primary 120v and secondary 32v to make an inverter. I would say that one you scrapped was a 30Kva. I love watching things get scrapped lol. I scrap myself, copper aluminum, small transformers from stereo's and PC's. I get $1-2lb for motherboards, $10 lb for ram, $0.40lb for hdds and $2lb for slot cards. i have over 300 motherboards waiting to be sold.

  • @brandibartolomucci789
    @brandibartolomucci789 Před 5 lety +1

Take a cutting torch and scarf the welds holding the laminated steel core together and it will fall apart with about 1/10th the labor that was expended using the grinder!!

  • @christopherleubner6633

If you grind off the welds on the top of the transformer you can knock the steel part off the top and pop the bobbins right off with a sledge hammer. You could use a transformer like this for isolation of a grid tie solar energy system.

  • @karlbe8414

Not even true it depends on the gauge, and what's on the wire solder ect.. yes generally anything above 16 is type 2 but I take all my motor windings and melt them into bars when I save enough up and I get type one at the scrap yards.

You need a plasma cutter for cutting things like that up. You would be able to cut that copper in seconds even with the paper there. Would also let you cut the corners of metal boxes to flatten them out for better storage in the truck but best would be a dump trailer for faster unloading.
Are there any odd rules on driving former military trucks up there? A old military dump truck could make a great addition to the equipment with the pickup for collection and the dump truck/trailer for hauling to the yard for the longer to back up to the pile then to dump the load.

I'm 60 and have spinal arthritis. Can't work anymore so I scrap. I was thinking of putting a small trolley jack or larger floor jack to dump the steel. Any ideas would be appreciated 👍👍👍.
