Awsome video man I scrapped almost the same thing about couple months ago it was four transformers big hearty pieces of copper on them each one had almost 200 lbs of copper in them it’s insane.
great seeing another scrapper doing the same thing.
I'm picking up two very large industrial forklift battery chargers this Saturday for 50 and $35 they both have two very large Transformers in each one possibly more as they are triple phase so wish me luck this is the first time I'm actually buying scrap from a yard so I can break it down and make more money off of it they also agreed to sell me any electric motors at scrap prices so there's no way I can not make a profit off of that as long as I put in the work which I do not mind whatsoever
Love your videos, they are so informative!!! Keep them coming!!!
DAAMMMMM............I sure would love to fall into some copper the way you did.
So glad you are recycling. Well done!!
An EXCELLENT find at an auction. Good video brother. That was a HUGE amount of copper you scored. Keep up the good work!
I'm glad I found you're channel, I am also Canadian and I want to get into scrapping. You're videos are really helpful :)
Awesome video. I was laughing when that grinder burned out. Been there
Thanks for sharing Eric
Great job
mastercraft have a lifetime warranty my dude! just call them they will replace it no joke
Great score!! Good video, thanks!!
Nice video. Nice tear down on the copper. Super they gave you number 1. Tfs.
If you do another transformer wear a respirator mask when cutting it. I use to work for a Canadian based electrical trasformer company. That paper is nomex, its a fiberglass paper. Those sticks in the coils are fiberglass as well. That apoxy is varnish. We use to dip the coils in varnish and bake them.
Love the bee hives!
Great job.
Good score! From the looks of your pile we have similar sources, I'm a little jealous of your sun shade . Have a good test of the summer!
Happy scraping.
Awesome video like these kind of videos where u c what its made of great job
nice haul. I love scrapping copper too. peace
I'd love to see that one pallet pay back the total you spent at the auction making everything else pure profit. Thanks for showing the tear down. That was a beast!
aint gonna pay the morons labor cheese and rice
I love your videos, I just now notice I wasn't subscribed! I fixed that! Man your scores are epic brother!
Damn these scrap guys from Canada got it made, no way any of my yards in NJ would ever give me copper #1 for enamel covered transformer copper. I just got 40 lbs of the same kind of copper out of a similar transformer (this video did help with that btw) but I’ll be lucky to get $2 a lb for it
wow that's a awesome score!!!!!
Here's the best tip for anyone that scraps copper things like this transformer. Cheap wood chisels, the cheaper the better, used with a hammer it cuts right through copper like, well like steel through copper. Place the beveled edge flush with the steel and start pounding, cut down through the windings, you'll be surprised how fast it cuts and best of all no power needed (except your arm), no blades to wear out and no cutting wheels to replace. If you happen to hit something hard just use your hammer to flatten the chisels back down and get after it again.
Black smith love those steel plates from transformers to make Damascus knives. I just fill USPS large flatrate box and sold for $50 a box. The copper wiring, it #2 so I pour muriatic acid to remove varnish and stubborn paper wrap to make it shine copper for #1 bare bright. Be sure to rise in soap water so it doesn’t tarnish later.
The yard was generous giving you #1 for the copper. That is #2 here.
That is #2 everywhere.
I found cutting copper or aluminium with a sawz all you need to lower your speed !!! Just a thought!!! Great score on the copper!!!!! Hey from Sarnia!!!!
Fair play. Good haul
Mega score. I wonder if there was a weld somewhere on the block that you could have split open like can be done with smaller transformers.
Nice job!! I'm trying to make some kind of living doing this. Trying to get my old 2000 Chevy S10 on the road here in the Western suburbs of Philadelphia. Usually just street scrap!!
Great vid, keep it up
Cool video I enjoyed it I'm a scrapper you know Scrappers like to watch scrappers why can't my brother I had a old cheap angle grinder and it lasted me for years and work and work like a Workhorse like years did and I bought or found I can't even remember anymore an old Craftsman high speed cut off wheel 1 what a difference cut my work time and a half just something to think on
That is Awesome how you turned that into cash, Not bad at all!
You have tons of transformer buyers on Craigslist ....
Also use a wood blade copper plugs the metal teeth up .... sounds stupid but wood blades will cut super easy
Use a sawsaw and a 10" wood blade and you can cut a car body into 7 pieces in less than 3 minutes works great on copper aswell
Cutting tires off rims wood blades work excellent aswell
where the pallet purchased from ?
Those breakers have a good bit of solid silver contacts
Good deal ?? You got an absolutely brilliant deal !!
nice way to keep yourself busy
Yeah, you will do quite well from that one lol. When grinding, don't just push down from top to bottom, roll the grinder up and down for the length. You'll use the wheel for a much longer time using this method.
A contractor isn't the only potential buyer for a used transformer. MANY people are adding shops in their homes nowadays. I just picked up a 75kva transformer for my home shop, and I've seen many others doing the same
Only 30 bucks for all that stuff? That's a lot of breakers and some of those might be pretty valuable. Good find. I don't know why there are comments saying you can't scrap the transformer core, it's just clean iron. You can take ac compressors in and scrap then and they have compressor oil in them.
Cool,
result.
Well Uber at least you could scrap that old grinder😁
I'm looking for a 5-6Kva transformer to rewire to primary 120v and secondary 32v to make an inverter. I would say that one you scrapped was a 30Kva. I love watching things get scrapped lol. I scrap myself, copper aluminum, small transformers from stereo's and PC's. I get $1-2lb for motherboards, $10 lb for ram, $0.40lb for hdds and $2lb for slot cards. i have over 300 motherboards waiting to be sold.
Take a cutting torch and scarf the welds holding the laminated steel core together and it will fall apart with about 1/10th the labor that was expended using the grinder!!
If you grind off the welds on the top of the transformer you can knock the steel part off the top and pop the bobbins right off with a sledge hammer. You could use a transformer like this for isolation of a grid tie solar energy system.
I do much smaller transformers, so was fun to watch a big one being processed. Please invest in some all leather gloves and always use the guard on your angle grinder! At least your were protecting your eyes/face. Happy scrapping from the Silicon Valley!
Earning an honest living.
Priceless
Nice work!
Question what all items have radiators in them??? I'm.new to taking appliances apart
You Canadians sure talk funny!
All motor windings and transformer windings are number 2.
Not even true it depends on the gauge, and what's on the wire solder ect.. yes generally anything above 16 is type 2 but I take all my motor windings and melt them into bars when I save enough up and I get type one at the scrap yards.
Any chance you could do the weights in Kilograms as well?
Is hot water heaters good for scapping
good job
Nice video thanks you
U. You went to an equipment auction to find that transformer and other stuff?
Good video dude, new sub here, fellow scrapper from 🇬🇧.
Nice chunk of copper there, good they gave you number 1 for it as well.
Looked like hard work though and ate the blades on your resip saw and angle grinders. Maybe a 9” angle grinder would have made easier work of it?
could you give me some tips where i could get scrap copper wire?
You rock man! Keep pumping out these videos! Question: would you still be doing this if you didn't need to? Of you were independently wealthy, would you still do it?
I saw one just now on ebay 350 dollars in same condition if you have the inclosure more like 1500 dollars or more on your panels look in the door fo type then look on ebay
What kind of auction? N breakers have silver wow gotta find out if they have auctions like that it Florida nice score. That grinder that burned out I would sell that for electric motor everything broken even has value awesome I want to get one now like that man I'd be very happy awesome video 👍👍😁
How do you find auctions in your city? Is there a website or something?
backyard mechanic here, nice haul. oh buy yourself some new saws all blades wouldja.
What type of auction did you go to ?
Where you find this type of auctions?
Ottawa! Small world brother
Hell yeah good hall brother I know what you’re doing with them breakers-man theres a lot there!
You need a plasma cutter for cutting things like that up. You would be able to cut that copper in seconds even with the paper there. Would also let you cut the corners of metal boxes to flatten them out for better storage in the truck but best would be a dump trailer for faster unloading.
Are there any odd rules on driving former military trucks up there? A old military dump truck could make a great addition to the equipment with the pickup for collection and the dump truck/trailer for hauling to the yard for the longer to back up to the pile then to dump the load.
Dude can't afford a cutting wheel, what makes you think he can afford a plasma cutter?
it is called buying used or trading. Scrapping is only a small part of what he is doing with the majority being selling things on ebay and at the flee market and both of those are good places to look for used shop equipment.
The copper dust will burn up any elc. Motor use a sawsall and save your grinders
did not know this. good man
Because you're in canada you said " it's copper number 2" they said " yeah it is ay, but we're going to price it for you at copper number 1, is that okay ay?".
I bet the bar the cables where screwed on was made of copper as well, did you check that?
Normally on the old ones the distribution bars are copper as well..
how many kva or mva was the transformer? do you have any idea how much copper 1 mva transformer has ?
Where's this auction at?
Was that bee hive boxes?
Another like for the dream
Likeur channel
Use a diamond wheel for the grinder...They last a lot longer and none of that shit flying off...Horror Freight has them for cheap and you can get them on E bay for chump change...I've been doing demo for decades through every type material, diamonds are worth their weight in gold...:)...Actually, maybe more...:)
For that i use angle grinder the cut off blade would make quick work of it a 14inch would nicer
I really like watching your videos. It gives me a lot of ideas on scrapping. I scrap in Tallahassee, FL. What type of auctions do find scrap metal at?
Joel Hardee I go to an auction in london, England and get nice lots of brass and copper for next to nothing. I get silver plate flatware, brass ornaments, copper kettles, taps etc. The last lot I paid £8 for it and took it to my local scrap yard and got £85. I probably get one of those a month. Good luck!!
Nice I just picked one up for free but could not pick it up. L could budge it but not lift it. Two nice guys on the building job site put it in my trusty old 2000 Toyota Camry 2.2 4 cylinder with heavy duty struts. Going to cut the copper off with my 4.5 " harbor freight cut off wheel. I'm 60 and have spinal arthritis. Can't work anymore so I scrap. I was thinking of putting a small trolley jack or larger floor jack to dump the steel. Any ideas would be appreciated 👍👍👍. Get a cut off wheel. There cheap!!!!
Awesome Yewwwwww
Hey TS. Hope you find some copper like this too.
Taco Stacks settle down
You can sell the copper buzz bar too, sell it on eBay.
Have you thought about taking the copper and melting it down for resale in bars or something else
a door on your gopro is letting air into the camera or a button has a hole in it? thats why your audio is poor. whatever the case is if you use electrical tape on your camera to seal up the leaks where air is getting in it will improve your audio a ton. i know from experience as my charging port door has a layer of electrical tape over it hahaha.
OR JUST SCRAP IT :)
its actually his face shield that he is wearing causing the bad audio, you can tell when he shows that he is wearing it and lifts it up for a moment
Seems like a lot of work
I would really like to know where to go to bid on stuff like what you got. I know you're in Canada but would have any idea where someone could find out about this in the lower states? Please answer me. I send comments to people all the time and never get responses.
Transformers....More than meets the eye
cool nice vid
That one looks like its worth 500 dollars with out the case with the case 1500 dollars i saw simuler ones on ebay the one your asking about i belive is a 208 to 480 3 phase a electrican can tell you for shure
I saw one on ebay used for 300 the electrician buying would probably know what to look for and know how to test it
We're is that auction
Eric I haven being getting your videos lately and I was thinking were were you and I had to look for you some reason they haven't been shown up lately
Wow $30 into hundos nice Uber
A local gold mine here where I live in northern Arizona just paid $1100.00 for one of those used. As I went to comment on this I see others told you as well that you could of sold it as it was and not done all that work for a few hundred dollars. You live and learn!
Great video man i think microscrapping is better
hmmm. i see a work around for the peeling copper from paper though i may just be an idiot. what about burning the paper from the copper with lighter fluid, just a small ammount, enough to set the paper on fire and burn it off. then it would be less tedious for you.
I was pumped until you said 200 Canadian.
It's not worth my time.
Just kidding. Always wondered what a transformer looked like. Nice video.
Dewalt gang and it’s funny you had a mask but no gloves x)
Hey, those are nice Bee hive boxes in your video, are you a beekeeper also or are those just scrap finds?
Check ebay for ones like it or maybe craigs list
