  • Here is my dad's thoughts and opinions on the Jumpsuit song and music video. I thought it would be interesting to see his perspective on this. I hope y'all like it! I personally am not a Christian BUT I was still curious as to what he thought.

    Both Tyler and Josh have Christian backgrounds. There are Christian references littered all over their music, especially in Vessel. Please check out more of their work. They are doing great work and it's awesome to know that they help so many people through the music, including me. I suggest checking at Trees, Holding Onto You and Ode to Sleep

    Jumpsuit - Armor of God.
    Ephesians 6: 10-18 (NIV)
    The Armor of God
    10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

      this actually gave me chills.
      My friends mom once said in passing that "bands like twenty one pilots are directing our children to lead lives that lead to death (death like sin)." I am a big TOP fan and a Christian, so I really wanted to hear her perspective on it. The amount of pure negligence for the lyrics and background of the song she showed... and once she found out, she was very upset with me (I'm close to this friend, we see each other often). I decided to try to pump the brakes and find out exactly what had her thinking it was "devil music."
      No matter how hard I try, she thinks that they have an appearance that directly means that they are devil worshipers. Nevermind the power of the lyrics. This gave me hope that maybe she can draw parallels like it. Thanks

      I know, but she doesnt want to invest any time in these things. There have been many times we've dug into it. She will not listen to any points. For petes sake, she calls upon Heathens (the title of which was derived from a biblical term!!!) as her sole argument of how devilish they are!

    I think the term “jumpsuit” represents the Holy Spirit. It guides him and covers him. “Trench” is a metaphor for living on earth- in a war zone and being aware that he doesn’t belong in this place. But just needs to survive until he gets to heaven- escapes the war. In regards to the others in rebel clothes and dropping yellow petals on him- I think that represents other believers who are also covered by the Spirit and pouring love and hope onto him. The way fellow believers build each other up and encourage each other through our struggles.

    • @bramcarlier39
      @bramcarlier39 Před 4 lety +2

      Trench is not a metaphor for earth. Tyler explained in an interview that Trench is meant to symbolize being in between two places or two tought or two parts of your life. It's not really a place where you stay, you pass trough it and maybe multiple times (you can fall back in your depression or have multiple difficult moments in your life), like you can actually watch the clips of Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners and Levitate as a loop: you're in a bad place, you escape, you are recovering, you fall back into bad place, you escape again, ... and so on until you actually get out of the bad place (Dema) and you get past Trench. I don't think it's about getting away from earth getting to heaven, it's more about overcoming your problems and insecurities, escaping from earth and getting to heaving sounds way to much like suicide to me and I don't believe that's the message he want to send....

    I'm with your dad there. I only listened to worship songs; the deeper, the better. These two dudes came along and blew my socks off!!! Now I don't bother listening to anything but worship and tøp and I know every last word of all tøp and New Albany's stuff (or nearly so, let's be honest). I'm always interested in hearing a Christian's perspective on the music, lyrics, videos and what the symbolism is. I believe Tyler is a genius and I've eaten his music for over a year and a half and I'm a bigger fan than my teens.
    When I first started listening, my daughter had handed me her BF and Trench CDs and told me to be aware that these were a story line. So I listened for that. By the end of listening to Trench for the first time I thought, "This isn't a 'story'. This is a journey!" I still had no idea what I was in for. I'm one of their biggest fans and I can't wait to meet all of them and, now your Dad.
    I know you say you're not a Christian. From someone who has explored both sides of life, let me tell you, there is only one side to life, and it's not dressed in red. The red is war and that war is for your soul. Praying for you, my dear.
