    This was a very helpful video. I was able to order a 542i clutch cover for my 540i direct from Husqvarna USA. It was not an easy process to get the order placed as the part is not listed directly on the website for sale and I had to chat with a customer service agent to place the order. The cover arrived today and bolted right on. A nice improvement for the 540i. Thank you.

    BIO Oil> CANOLA or similar probably.
    Canola in chainsaws definitley needs more cleaning afterwards

    Gas chainsaws are ereplaceable for cutting the trunks or tree branches over 16" with the currently battery powered power saw technology. But battery saw are or should be a staple for climbing saws in the tree work community. I cant go back. Unless all my battery saws break and theres no stores close by. Or i just want to run some vintage saws that day.

      i think a medium sized battery saw with umbilical cord and the backpack batteries with drastically more cells them the hand held BLi or AP batteries

    Thanks for this comparison it's a real eye opener to some pretty basic stuff...
    The T542iXP doesn't seem 'stronger' to me based on your video it just needs softer hands and it cuts at exactly the same rate. The clutch cover on the basic T540iXP is utter plastic crap anyway and you've confirmed exactly what I was thinking - replace it with a T542i XP cover (or a 540i metal cover at least it's more rigid!) that is obviously wider as it accommodates a clutch so can bale out debris more easily. It isn't rocket science. Happy Christmas by the way!

      Indeed, with a soft hand, the t540i would be my preference, I mainly prune. For take downs the 542 is a faster option. Heavier, noisier, more vibration, but also slightly stronger

      @@DUTCHHUSKY66Treesandforest I'm really not convinced it is based on your video? the clutch seems to be giving an illusion of more power when really, is it just allowing a heavy handedness with no stopping (no criticism) - the motor/power appears to be the same.
      The million dollar question is... can you swap the clutch assembly over from the T542iXP to the T540iXP? I'm expecting a No to that question but you can see my point!

      @@angelwars3176 I haven't done a torque test, it feels a bit more torquey, but it is nothing world shaking differently. It could be a similar engine with similar power, just allowed more power through the chip. The clutch makes that possible, because the slipping startup prevents stuff breaking. Left of right, I don't know if it really more powerful. But it seems/feels a tad bit stronger.
      It was disapointing though, because I expected a world of difference, and did not get that.
      I do like the better clutch cover and other minor tweaks. My biggest concern with the old saw is the break system that keeps filling up with crap after which it fails and stays on 'brake' mode. I have to disassemble and clean that weekly. Hopefully the new saw is better constructed.

    Curious! Does the new 542 share the same sprocket with any other current model saw? I actually switch mine all to 3/8” for ease of chain building etc.

    Do you find the chain tensioner is better with the magnesium side cover from the rear handle saw compared to the plastic one that seems to always come slack?

    • @DUTCHHUSKY66Treesandforest
      @DUTCHHUSKY66Treesandforest  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Definitively better, more sturdy. The ones I have now tension very well.
      But, also those magnesium cover tensioners van have a misalignment in them (might be the screw), that with some will slacken the chain. Happened more often with the plastic cover, but also had it with a few of those magnesium ones. Simply send it back for an exchange.
