  • Ok, so the ram and catapult are cool and all but there's a much easier way to take care of the fortresses. And, you end up with a basically impervious base all to yourself when you're done.

    Masterful!
That inner building sure is an odd duck. I initially dug around it but did not try hard enough to dig under it as you did. I figured the game was telling me to build the battering ram, so after raising the ground back up to the door, I did that, blasted a hole, then went back down to my trench to re-dig what I'd filled in. After doing so, without the door (and part of the upper wall), the entire bottom of the tower collapsed leaving the top part "floating".
Which was fine since I was intending to rehab parts of the fortress with grausten to make my base. But it was weird.

how on earth was there an asksvin inside the fortress?? Also in my opinion using the how to create a raised ground ramp is easier and quicker (and indestructible) than building stairs up.

Yeah, I don't know why I did stairs first. I think stairs are a little quicker for me because I'm more obsessive about the slope and shape of the dirt. Not sure about the asksvin. Also usually there's a warlock on the top tower but he was missing.

@@roadwarrior6555 I get it, i was like that at first but then i started to build a mound just high enough that the mobs cant reach me then right beside it build straight up as high as the walls. Its (somewhat) safe and quickest method i have used. The warlock from the top of the tower might have fallen off during the breach and just blended in with the rest.

    ...... so you'd recommend a shield?

I've always play with a one handed weapon plus shield or crossbow for ranged. I'm sure the two-handed weapons can work, but I think your risk of being staggered is higher because the block is lower. Also I don't really like the longer swing time. Plus I don't think you can get the frost damage effect on the 2 handed weapons like you can with Frostner and Mistwalker which is really good.
