It's nice to see Godzilla treated as a horror monster instead of just an action hero
Shin Godzilla?
@@wa-bu3keExactly my thought, apparently they only think of the monster verse universe. Even though Godzilla is more of an anti-hero... And even though Toho has made multiple Godzilla movies where he is also like that or just straight up the hero. That means the last three Godzilla movies he hasn't been some action hero. He has been Godzilla, doing Godzilla things.
Yeah but Shin Gojira was a monster, not hero. That movie is amazing.
Yes, fighting robots!! :))))
His best roles were as the horror villain (GMK). But godzilla 2000 was one of the best hero films

This was genuinely a masterpiece. I never expected a Godzilla film to be this amazing but my god. One of the best movies I've ever seen in a movie theater.
I just watched this movie, and 100% agree.
I've seen it six times now, always bringing someone else to experience it, and to my surprise they (not being Godzilla fans) have liked it. The response that this movie has had from casual movie going audiences (being subtitled no less) is just astounding so happy for this movie and its success!

The idea of Godzilla holding a grudge against an entire country, then waiting for them to be at their weakest before striking at them again is... It's actually really chilling.
Godzilla is intelligent
America: *drops two nukes*
Japan: “can it get any worse”
Godzilla: *powerful enough to destroy the country at any time BUT waiting for when it’s at its lowest*

I actually think this is where Toho might've taken a 'few' cues from Gareth Edwards' work in the Monsterverse. Like look, not everybody has to love those for various reasons, but Gareth Edwards in the 2016 one displays a gift for cinematography, and making monsters 'feel' as big as they look, that few others come close to. Yeah, the asphalt of the pavement gets flipped up, and you can see an entire crowd of people get launched into the air.. and all he's doing is *walking*.

Given how much a creature that size has to weigh, it wouldn't make sense if our paltry streets WEREN'T shattered and thrown around. It's definitely more awesome this way.
It's the way the ground momentarily supports his weight before giving way that really makes that shot.
The design for Godzilla is amazing considering it seems to be paying homage to what inspired his original design to begin with. Scarred, radiation-burnt flesh to signify the way he was created.
This design is similar to one in the 2021 ride where he fights Ghidorah.
@@johnnygallagher5718 It makes sense since both the Ride design and this one are made by the same director.

For Example, Jurrasic park Messed with the DNA to bring the Dinosaurs back, and now scientists are trying to bring dinosaurs back by gene engineering
Anyway let's compare Godzilla and Leviathan. They can't die no matter what; they can light up the sea with the shining of their eyes/fins.. They both breathe fire... They both have scales; sharp teeth; ETC.. They both have similar titles.. Godzilla King of the monsters; and leviathan is called king of all beast in the bible.. in some translations he's king over the children of pride
Even the director of Godzilla tweeted Leviathan verse toward godzilla.. Like I said the higher ups know Godzilla is the bibical Leviathan... God will release Leviathan in the end times to go after the wicked/Elites and the Elites already know this and that why they will the robots ready

Not like it hasn’t been done in previous entries but to see the emotion the impact, the actual destruction of Japan in a perspective like this hasn’t been done in a while
Since 2016 even.
Well...its humanity's devastation coming home to roost.
True not in awhile and with a serious tone.
did you cry bro?…..watching the trailer?
sequel of Oppenheimer.
The greatest Godzilla movie of all time. Arguably the greatest kaiju movie all time. One of the greatest movies of all time.
by far the best movie in 2023
This movie looks incredible. Godzilla is CGI but still looks real and horrifying. I like how the destruction is shown, from the perspective of humans, being crushed, falling off buildings and getting stepped on, and I’m excited to see how they’ll do the scenes with battleships! I’m unbelievably hyped for this film!
There looks to be some miniatures, and I’m hoping Godzilla is motion capture
Of course cgi LOL
@@SlimKim3 if you’re gonna hate don’t watch this movie, we don’t need yo negative ass. Go somewhere else
@@mrgodzillaraptors8632how do you mocap a character that's taller than buildings?
@slimkim3950 Usually, you just animate and render the scenery and stuff around the mocap. I believe Shin Godzilla also incorporated mocap as well.
"That monster will never forgive us." That hits so hard.
Especially because it leaves us with the question… what did we do to him?
Nah they're leaning into the warcrimes denial hard. My friend has an excellent Godzilla Minus One idea which would heavily feature Unit 731
@@Bobzilla2023This Godzilla most likely has the same origin as 1954 Godzilla who got heavily scarred and mutated by the nuclear bomb, which turned him into an abomination.
how exactly - please explain
@@UltronInfinite Oh well duh that much is obvious lol. I’m just wondering if there is more to it. Like if the bomb that mutated him wiped out the rest of his species.
This was a phenomenal movie most likely the best in my life.
Congratulations on the Oscar! Well deserved! Best pic of 2023!

Particularly this shot. Everything in this is incredibly harrowing, but seeing Godzilla himself horrifically burnt and scarred is something else. A force of nature, almost crippled, presumably from nuclear attack, is terrifying in itself.
this movie is going to swim in dark tones and themes, but that was not something i was expecting
Godzilla is verry dark, just its existence and story behind it. Then add found fotage, etc... I think Godzilla is a horror monster before it was made funky and stuff.
How can you tell he's scared? There's no way to tell his emotions. I mean it's giant lizard goes RAAAWR.
@AztekBlind I was wandering the same thing... Maybe pissed or angry but Godzilla is never scared
I think he meant to say scarred
@@thenaberius6081 yeah, Gojira (1952) is a disaser/horror movie more than anything

Well done
I want to express my appreciation and gratitude to TOHO for producing this masterpiece! I hope this success will enable you to continue on telling this story and I'll be waiting for it as a newly gain fan of yours!
Domo arigato!
I think it’s very interesting how Minus One got popular. Most movies today get popular because of hype and mass marketing. But Minus One got popular in a more retro (and better) way. Its success was mainly due to word of mouth and how people told other people about just how amazing it is. Movies getting success and becoming popular in this fashion isn't as common as it was in the 20th century and stuff. So it's cool how this movie's popularity was spread in this fashion

I'm only a couple of years behind you, and I remember watching Godzilla movies Saturday afternoons, when I was a kid. There have been more than a couple of new Godzilla movies, in recent years, but this one feels a lot more like the originals. I'll definitely be seeing this one.

The roar gives me chills. I love how it’s more of a horror film, it makes Godzilla look more of a threat. Looks incredible.
I prefer transformers over Godzilla

That roar sounds very angry
It's the Og roar too!!
I still prefer the roar from 2014 Legendary
Getting to see this movie in theaters was a blessing! What a fantastic movie!
At last a Godzilla film to be excited about, be awe-stricken by with a genuine human story at the centre of it, a film worthy of the Legendary GODZILLA !!!
I like the idea of Godzilla being destructive simply by walking around. The other movies haven’t really done a good job of explaining what his tail does and why his footsteps don’t cause hell on its own
I only want to touch up on this comment to say I think of Myth Busters when they did the bull in the china shop thing... a bull is actually very careful about walking around and not trying to smash into things if it can avoid it. Godzilla would be the same, if he's not angry/fighting of course and simply going from point A to point B he wouldn't be wreaking wanton destruction he'd be avoiding obstacles especially buildings since his sense of self preservation knows those could fall and hurt him (speaking from a standard animal point of view, we all know godzilla is a fucking tank, lol) I agree though, his footsteps, even if being careful not to hit things on the sides, would still be tearing up the ground and ripping things apart.
Plenty of the toho movies show the damage caused simply by walking around
The first film of Gareth Edwards did show it to some extent, follow ups not so much.
@@BlackRainRising This is godzilla, not a bull. He is like 99% on rampage mode.
@@danarief
Depends on version. This movie he’s on rampage mode. Legendary Godzilla is shown as protector so would act just like how the above person mentioned it.
Godzilla has to be the only cinema character were they can keep making movies about him and we never get bored of him. Can’t wait to see this movie!

If we can’t get a Shin Godzilla sequel, this is easily the next best thing
That would had been better
Toho never had any plans for a sequel. It was just a rumor, nothing more.
Shin doesn’t need a sequel, it’s just better off being it’s own masterpiece as it is.
Shin was a one shot. ❤
@@srokaproductions4636I agree but also if it were to have a sequel I would prefer it to be an alternate ending movie and not a sequel
We have come back to the origins...thank God
They’ve gone back to the origins too many times now. It is getting tired. That was never what made Godzilla as great as it was. What made it great were the playful monster battles. There’s a reason why King Kong Vs. Godzilla, to this day, is still the most successful Godzilla movie of all time.
Honestly you may hate me for this. But i prefer Godzilla being cheesy majority of the time. I like first one, and remake looks awesome. But i dont think making a tragic story of an ultimate weapon as sequels is that entertaining. I think its more fun when its just this big monster going all wraaaah on people is more fun just for simplicity. But i like the first movie for sure though. But i dont think it would make movies better if the sequels were overly serious
Movie of the year.
Yes, this is Godzilla done right. You really get the feel for the magnitude of the raw power and destruction that is Godzilla. I’m 53 yo woman and remember watching Godzilla on TV with my father. This trailer has such a nostalgic feel to it for me, because it takes the threat that is Godzilla so seriously and it makes you feel for the people of Japan.
I have higher hopes for this film because it's a Japanese company making it no Hollywood, but I wouldn't be praising it yet as good.
I'm 34 and when I was a kid I would watch all the old Godzilla movies with my grandmother, she was a huge fan! She's 74 now and I hope to take her to see it when it comes out!
This feels like the same tone from the og from 1954
well said...totally agree!!!!
The united states military is using technology and manpower to protect deviant sadistic pedophiles that are misusing their access to advanced tools to spy on, harass, molest, and rape children. This sometimes follows them into adulthood. Children that are still too young to know that what they are seeing is not normal are being exposed to disgusting deviant content that is forcefully shown to them by hacking their devices. Many victims may not even know they have been targeted by this, because the majority of the actual sexual abuse happens when they are drugged or asleep, the only reason they might know is because the perpetrator may leave behind physical evidence, like bruises, scratches, or semen. If a victim discovers what has happened to them these worms will misuse equipment and manpower to stalk, shame, mock, and generally try to make the lives of the people affected by this as hellish as possible both offline and online. They follow victims in person and try to intimidate or harass them. They generally use different people who act as though they aren't affiliated with each other and don't do anything they can be arrested for at the time of the harassment. They think they can shame and mock their victims into silence because some of what happens is coerced. These are depraved cowards that gather in groups to harass solitary women and children just to protect sexual abusers and rapists.
I love the dichotomy between toho Godzilla and Legendary Godzilla in how they are both pictured as forces of nature... makes me all the more excited for this movie.
Legendary Godzilla is a hurricane, he doesnt care about humanity unless humanity is directly involving themselves in his business. Hes just there to do his job and defend his home
Toho Godzilla is like a man-made disaster, what happens when you poke at earth too much and earth pokes back. Hes directly targeting humans in retaliation.
Its two very different tones for the exact same character and we get to see both at the same time via different studios (given Monarch: Legacy of monsters will be releasing a month before this)
I see Toho’s Godzilla as the power of the atomic bomb and the people suffering from its power while I see Legendary Godzilla as us Americans using the atomic bomb and the people afraid of it but have to use it to save themselves. Toho created Godzilla as a representation of the bomb that nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, America was never bombed. We created the atomic bomb. So I think Legendary Godzilla being the antihero is more like a nuke we are using to save us, no matter how destructive it is. The citizens fear it but eventually realize it’s the only thing to save us. The legendary monster Godzilla fights in those movies to me represent enemy country’s attacking us and Godzilla being the nuke to make them surrender.
