BBC 2 Neon Ident Recreation

- Recreation using Blender of the 1991 BBC 2 neon sign ident. The music is taken from the original.
The neon light is a gradient PNG used as an emission shader. The animation was made by simply keyframing the emission strength for each sequence.
The reflected light off the backdrop behind the 2 box was difficult to recreate. The method used involves a dark transparent shader infront of the 2 to set the lights bright enough to illuminate the backdrop without washing out the inside of the box. This was not optimal.
This is nostalgia for many.

Try lost ident
If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the backing of the "Neon 2" box? I mean the dots inside of it.
There is a video "BBC2 1991-2001 Idents (How Do They Do That?)" where you can see the original prop in the background of the interview with Lambie-Nairn and by the shadow cast on the wall you can see that the back of the box is essentially a metal pegboard type material. This allows light to escape out the back to light up the backdrop allowing you to see the shape of the "2".
For my blender recreation: to make the back of the box I made a plane and used a boolean modifier and a cylinder to cut a hole in the plane. I then used an array modifier to multiply it many times in the x and y dimension. Then after applying those modifiers I used another boolean to cut it to the shape of the "2". Finally I used a solidify modifier to give it some thickness. The light from the neon bulbs (which are emission shaders) can then escape through these holes and it is visible on the backdrop behind the "2".
