      I really despise the term. It's too limiting.
      They are small displacement bikes. They are price-conscious bikes, in a international economy that makes a dozen eggs cost nearly $5 currently. It's not like money goes anywhere.
      But people who've reached middle age perhaps and have gotten all the horsepower junky out of their systems, would like a second smaller bike, or just experience something light, peppy, something they can crank the throttle and use all the power. It's an option. Sure the suspension and brakes aren't going to be like the bigger bikes, due to price point.
      You can learn a lot about motorcycles by riding the wheels off a smaller bike, even as an expert.

      The Ninja 400's that have been bored out to 450cc are capable of HP in the mid 50's to mid 60's to the wheel depending on spec. Plus, Kawasaki is known for electronically neutering its bikes to meet emissions and noise requirements let alone the A2 standard common in other markets. I bought a used 2023 Z400 with low mileage for many of the reasons you mentioned. It fits a sweet spot for me between a 250cc and 650-800cc bike. The high-revving engine sings right up to its 12k redline and is a of fun to ride. I thought the bump up to the Z500 would begin to compromise the small bike experience that I wanted. It’s always more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. Personally, I also prefer the sharper styling of the Z400 which doesn’t reach the over-the-top styling of bikes such as larger Z-series options, all KTM’s, current Yamaha MT-series, etc.

    I actually like the weight gain.the 400 is SO light the wind is rough on it. I say that as highway riding would suck on it. This makes it a TAD better in that regard. I ALSO like the additional torque down low so i wouldn't have to rev AS hard at every light in order to keep in front of traffic. Im HOPING they detuned it for the European market though because if it adds a few more horses I'm getting one.

    • @pedrofp__
      @pedrofp__ Před 6 měsíci

      Why would they detune? The bike is already made for A2 compliance. The power output is the limit of that compliance category wich is 35KW (roughly 48HP), perfect power output in my opinion. Will remain the leader in this segment I believe. Also it won't get much more weight where you will notice a difference, it's only more 5Kg wich if you think that they add about 50cm3 of displacement it's not that bad. I owned a 2018 Ninja 400 for the past year for my first bike and I am getting this one new for 2024, it's the perfect bike for my needs and skill level. Such a balanced and sweet machine
