Rock, emo and punk has been a part of MGK probably way before he ever started in music. Rap was always his niche and he had a reputation for bars and raging concerts when he got on scene, just check his Kellyvisions. Dude spent some time doing what he loved and making the music he wanted and that he grew up listening to, nothing more nothing less.

Don’t take it like I’m dissing MGK for it. I can identify what it is and still say it was a smart move. His sales dropped off from rap due to the Em diss, so he needed to let things cool off. He flipped over to rock, went platinum, now he’s making Hip Hop again and he’s dropping heat. It’s brilliant because fans haven’t forgotten, but they forgive easy if you’re dropping fire. I expect his next rap album to go platinum as well, which I think would’ve bombed again had he not took the hiatus.

I was a head line for mgk in Vancouver. ( on the drums) this was the best show ive ever seen. It was amazing !!! This was way back around 2015-2016. Jp rock had to use my snare drum, and its awesome because my kit is red and black his is all white and you will see my snare drum on the Canadian tour videos he has. But yeah my snare drum sticks out like a sore thumb hehe. Obviously have jp rock sign it and he even tuned it for me !

I've been a MGK fan forever way back to the "100 words & runnin" days when that 1st came out & had a couple tattoos & his hairline was that of 65yr old man lol. That being said... MGK has shown how bad it is that people don't care about knowing facts & gaining knowledge about a specific topic before they share their opinion.
MGK has ALWAYS been a rocker/rapper with his style in clothing & music. Dude has been in songs with bands from papa roach to sleeping w. sirens meanwhile recording a rap album w. a track featuring DMX. Then his BAND that he does his live shows with while performing his rap songs during the Van's Warped Tour & then touring with Linkin Park (R.I.P Chester).

Imo, Eminem knew Killshot hit, but not in the way he intended. Eminem did bump MGK outta rap for a minute, but when MGK switched genres to pop punk, he KILLED it. His record sales were crazy and his fans just followed him over to pop punk and introduced many to the genre.
Now he’s back with his freestyles and his lines referencing killshot or em in general stand because Eminem didn’t knock him out of the music game, just the rap game. With the idea of killshot, whoever it hits, doesn’t come back at all. And that’s what I feel he means by “the crosshairs were shaky, missed me by two inches”
The lesson from god that he mentions in the beginning could absolutely be referring to the fact that he switched genres and still succeeded. “No blueprints, just music.” No one really pushed him out of the game, he just had to change the play. (I realized after typing this, the god line came from pressure and not this freestyle, my opinion however still stands)
