- Secretary of Education Laura Roslin ascends to the Presidency of the Twelve Colonies after responding to the Colonial government broadcast Case Orange, which is intended to identify the highest-ranking government official when most of the political Cabinet has been killed or incapaciated.

From the moment she slipped off that cover and placed on her coat to her end she absorbed a presidential command, that, not for one second, she ever put down. She assumed authority, took it, and made sure, as much a she could possibly muster, to put the lives of the large groups of people first! I loved her.
Amazing actress she seamlessly meshes strength and venerability...
the shaking hand as she takes the oath.
Over 20 years later & this scene is still so utterly powerful in its simplicity...
Battlestar Galactica, a truly unique & timeless show so incredibly reimagined 👏🏻.
Technically it was still Colonial 798 until after the swearing in 😆😆
It’s a shame the the writers didn’t continue the character of Colonial One’s Captain.. all the shit that ship goes thru.. i think he would’ve made for an interesting sub-character
I think he died on New Caprica.
@@ItCameFromTheSkyBeLo I suppose that’s likely given the number of casualties during the occupation but even if that was true he would’ve existed for the first two seasons AND if he did in fact perish on New Caprica then someone else (presumably, the “first officer”) would assume the role.
@@808Goose I agree.
God I miss this show!
This is a hell of an 'Oh, DAMN..." moment.
FORTY THIRD in line of succession, and she's the most senior official still alive.
That speaks of inconceivable losses.
That moment where she steels herself up and then continues is where I nearbout lost it.
This is fine writing and great acting.
I wonder if she felt like Truman did when he was sworn in. He said (paraphrase): "I feel like the moon and all the stars fell on me..."
That was apparently the inspiration for this scene.
@@carlycrays2831 really? It feels more like Lyndon B. Johnson’s swearing in.
@@josecbritos it was inspired by LBJ. I think Ron Moore confirmed that
Yes, in the original script for the miniseries it clearly stated it should resemble LBJ oath taking.
I wish we’d gotten to see more of Colonial One’s pilots in the future.
True, although the reason I was thinking "wow this guy's acting is really striking" is just because he was so stunned-but-coping, which probably wasn't as necessary after the miniseries :)
Great leaders do not seek power...they have power thrust upon them.
Worf
@@crimecat1483 Kahless
She was a horrible leader tho
@@ItCameFromTheSkyBeLo I know a troll when I see one. No food for your here go back under your bridge.
@highlander723 she rigged an election. No she doesn't get points for pulling out at the last second. She authorized a genocidal war crime against the cylons. No, she doesn't get points because it failed. She supported forced labor, and child labor. She also illegally took office after new caprica was liberated. Instead of what should have happened, being the next member of succession of Baltar's cabinet taking office. Threatening his vice president with death if he didn't ABDICATE to her.
If you think Roslyn wad a good president, I hope you never run for office.
Separately, she is a great character. It's okay to love characters who are bad people.
Is it me or does this remind me of LBJ being sworn in on Air Force One after Pres. Kennedy was murdered? Its chilling...
Yes that was the direct inspiration according to Ronald D Moore.
Yes it was the inspiration. However he just replaced a president under sad circumstances.
Roslin has seen the deaths of 50 billion and the destruction of the government and now she must lead what remains of humanity to salvation with her intern and a handful of politcla journalists and assistants.
That's a little more intense hahaha
Funnily, Babylon 5 took the same inspiration when they swore in President Clark. B5 though was a show on a budget, so it was presented in one camera angle ala a news broadcast. It goes to show how a good cinematographer and good actors can flesh out that image into something that is its own.
Deliberate Callback By Ronald D. Moore. Confirmed.
LBJ is directly responsible for all systemic racism in the United States. He is the architect of enslaving black people on voting plantations, devoid of hope, education, and nuclear family ties, waiting for white liberals to give them money in exchange for their votes.
The way she had her hands spread he should have accepted the Precedency of the Vulcan home world LOL
Look they use octagonal paper in this society, who the hell knows what they're supposed to do with their fingers :P
@@jerodast the funniest part about this is that they made their paper like that because the studio told them to "cut corners" so they did 😂
Could be worse. Imagine if she had to deal with twitter commenters.
She would've ordered Adama to arrest, then throw them unto airlock 😆😉
And once the mini-series ended we never saw the pilots of Colonial Heavy 798, otherwise known as Colonial One, ever again.
That's because they knew the real truth of what that slip of paper said, so she had them airlocked in the dead of night.
He had to take command of Prometheus, and go down with that ship instead.
@@homiedclown I don’t get it. Explain?
@@peterz1647 It was just a joke, we never saw those actors again after the mini series, so I made a joke that they know to much, so Roslin had them spaced.
Loved Roslin.
Lee see maid president as a mother Figure
You took an oath right?
From which episode is this?
The miniseries
No. They did not.
Who the bloody hell is iSHowU HD?
its a screen recording package that runs on macOS. Looks like it was running in trial mode based on the watermark
At least she's not a skeleton.

No one gonna mention she botched it?
Why no more shows like this!? Now there is always Wamens!
"With every fiber of my being."
So we're not going to talk about how fanatical that sounds?
I think it's less fanatical than "so help me god."
Sounds like she should eat All-Bran to do a better job.
@Kato Ho Ten Soeng agree with you. There's a whole line that proceeds this short phrase, the one where she vowing to "protect and defend the sovereignty of the colonies".
The job is ride or die.
How fanatical is too fanatical when you're threatened with extinction though?
Love the show si much. Hated this hungry power lady tough
Loved the show. Hated Roslin
:o
Why do you fear women with power? Is it vaginas you fear?
