- Sweden marked becoming the 32nd member of Nato with a flag-raising a ceremony at Nato Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium on Monday.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that "unity and solidarity" would be Sweden's "guiding lights".
Sweden applied to join the defence alliance after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 - but its request was blocked by two members.
Turkey initially withheld approval in a row over what it called Sweden's support to Kurdish separatists. It eventually lifted its veto in January of this year.

Remember what this means: As Sweden is now a part of NATO and the Baltic Sea is a NATO-lake, Russia cannot let its submarines go from St. Petersburg to the open oceans without getting spotted by NATO, rendering Russia's submarines useless in stealth.

This has made the Baltic Sea much harder for the Russian military because if they have to transfer ships between Kaliningrad (Königsberg) and St Petersburg they'll be tracked by NATO same way with them going to the open ocean from St Petersburg. because with Sweden and Finland entry in NATO since 2023 and 2024 NATO controls the Baltic Sea making it a lake

Russia's access to the ocean through the North Sea was previously controlled by NATO, the exit was through Norway and Britain. That is why the USSR built an exit from the Baltic Sea to the White Sea through a network of canals about half a century ago.

Sweden always wanted neutrality but after Russia invaded Ukraine (a non nato member) Sweden and Finland realised they were also under threat of a future attack from Russia.
