I don't know what happened to Red River Hanover. He was clearly much better than Mach Three and McArdle. He parked out McArdle and Michel LaChance and came right back to grab the lead from Mach Three and John Campbell after the sizzling :26: seconds flat tossing a grudging yield to McArdle and upon retaking the lead from Mach Three was unbelievable and unbeatable as he controlled the rest of the mile enroute to a 1:48:4 world and track/stakes record!!!. A month later he couldn't touch McArdle or Mach Three and tailed off terribly. I wasn't sure who LaChance was going to drive, McArdle or Mach Three, who LaChance drove to a huge win in The $970,000 Metropolitan Stake the year before. Regardless, Red River Hanover quickly faded in everyone's memories of that year as McArdle, Mach Three, and Art Major, (stablemate to McArdle), vied for HOTY.

Mini me was a personal favorite of mine. He raced at the Chicago circuit tracks for Joe Anderson. Shame to see him break stride in this race.
He broke stride 'cause he's a pig!
