I'm an American living in Italy. Can you believe they have biodegradable produce and shopping bags at all major food stores!? It's been like that for at least 10 years. I don't know why American food stores can't adopt similar practices.

Italian here, I agree with you but I’d love to use a tote bag to put fruits and veggies in, instead in shops they make you use their bio bags that are better than plastic, but still produce waste

I live in America, that sounds amazing to have more biodegradable things like that

Well I’m an American in California and they’ve adapted to the biodegradable years back while also outlawing single use plastic bags. You either bring your own shopping bags and get a 10cent refund per bag used, or you pay 10cents for paper bags they provide

@@kurlykaitlyn That's great! Hopefully other states will end up doing the same.

i reccomend buying them from a small business/second hand :)) you also might already have tote bags at home and not realize it! before i started conciously making an effort to use less plastic in my life, i had tons of bags at home i wasn't even using and didn't even realize it 😅

It’s better for the environment (this is meant for the commenters and maybe the video maker if she doesn’t know this) to make your own bags out of old fabric or reuse bags you already have if possible! Buying all new “eco friendly” stuff is more wasteful if you already have something that works just as good

I love buying herbs, spices, etc in bulk! Everytime I go to the traditional market here in Indonesia, I bring several reusable shopping bags and takeout containers from previous food to store small products such as garlic, shallot, beans, etc. I even have my own reusable bag for rice! 😁

Nice, I’ve always been afraid of using those refill stations where you open the lid and scoop idk why but I always feel like there was at least one person who put their hand in it… Got ptsd with shopping 😭 from when everyone would go lick the ice cream and put it back in the freezer

    • @miles_quartz

ooh yeah i understand that too! but in my opinion it's just as safe as something that's already pre-wrapped, many things can become contaminated, but it is unlikely. if you are unsure, then cooking/freezing/washing anything you buy in bulk should be fine to eat. :) i shop bulk all the time and it is very safe and hygenic. you can also sanitize your hands before using the metal scoop when bulk shopping as a courtesy to others! :) i hope this helps

Question: when you are using your reusable bags for produce and bulk bins, do you pay for the weight of the bags? Considering the plastic ones weigh so much less than the reusable. Or will the checkout cashier subtract the weight of your bags?
