  • I Show you how to use a Rockler crosscut sled on a jobsite saw. A Rockler cross cut sled is a great addition to your jobsite saw but modifications need to be made to make the use more safe. I have a Dewalt 745 jobsite saw. In my case, I added a side wing to my saw cabinet. The added side wing stabilization is required to use this sled. Please make your own decision as to the safe use of this crosscut sled on your jobsite saw. Saftey first please!!!

    For a while I thought about building my own sled or potentially just getting a miter saw so I can increase the accuracy and consistency of my cross cuts. After seeing the rockler had a "pre-made" sled that is adjustable and comes with t slots, I realized I'd probably spend more making what I want than I would just buying theirs. I'm like you, I like to research a product a lot before I buy it. I'm glad I stumbled across this video, it answered all the questions I didn't even know I had yet.

    • @LoganLovell

      For what it's worth, I may still get a miter saw some day given the amount of times I'd use it for more of a jobsite application but for more fine woodworking, I think this sled will be a much better solution for me for the time being.

      Thank you for your kind words Logan. I use the sled quite often instead of getting my miter saw out. You may want to check this video out as well. czcams.com/video/8q0v23lGY0s/video.html It shows how to cut wider boards with the Rockler sled. Be safe with your tools!!

    Thanks for showing me why a miter sled that works on large table saws might not work on a job site saw. Now, I can consider buying this sled. I would rather buy than make in the hopes that it will be less trouble and be more accurate.

    Just brought one home, had the same issue of tipping. My table saw had an arm lower than the table top, so I built a saddle out of wood which is removable when I store my saw. I liked your storage shelf and will make one for my rockler sled. Thanks!

    Excellent video on a sled I am looking at. As far as the concern about the stop adjusting screw maybe moving on you after dialing it in, you can wrap the threads with plumbers teflon tape to eliminate any "slop" and tighten up the fit. I learned this trick from a plumber friend when I asked him why my shower water on/off handle kept coming loose. The screw has not backed out in years.

      Awesome idea Brian!!! I use the sled a lot. It replaces some of the things I used to do on my miter saw. Now I can sometimes do a project and get one less power tool out. Thanks again for the useful tip!

      There is also a "LocTite" that you can buy that allows forced movement but not involuntary movement. That is, it is lock a little not totally.

    Rockler even added a notice in red on their website on the product description for this:
    "Notice: Not compatible with DeWalt 7491RS jobsite saw (54738). 3/4 of the platform should be supported by your table saw."
    I have the sled and a much bigger table saw and it is usable on it, but I think it's still too big IMO. Make your own sled to fit your saw and you'll be better off. Not to mention the price on the Rockler sled is stupid high. $200 for this is too much. I kick myself for buying it.

    Thanks for the video. I was not familiar with this product. The addition of the tape on the top surface is a great time saver. I have factory scales on saws but I don't feel they are accurate and always set via alternate methods. How do you measure distance to three decimal places? Caliper? (digital, dial or vernier). Great product introduction!

      I’ll look at what I did and let you know tomorrow.

    • @Ray_Here
      @Ray_Here  Před rokem

      Don, I just took a 1x2 block about 3” long and attached it to the wall with two 3” screws. I predrilled holes through the block. The screw length allows it to grow through the block and the drywall and anchor into the stud. I attached the block just above the top of the sled when its in it’s tray. I took a second block about 4 1/2” long and predrilled a hole in the top center that would allow the block to rotate on the screw. Then I screwed the second block into the first one just tight enough that I could rotate the second block to hold the sled. The block sizes are pretty arbitrary so make them whatever size works for you. I’ve used this technique in other applications ad it works well.
