    My daily commuter for the past six months. 8k miles on the clock, no issues apart from some winter-related bolt corrosion which I'm promised will be sorted out under warranty. The width and low weight of the bike make it ideal for filtering, a very balanced beast which has power on tap when required. Echo your comments, it's a perfect commuter at a great price.

    Finally one of my favourite vloggers reviews my bike. Glad you liked it. Had mine just over 5 months now but only put about 1200m on it due to the crap weather and commuting on my MT125. Just put the comfort seat on mine as it looks great and the original can get a bit hard after a couple of hundred miles. Also swapped the screen for an MRA Vario which cuts out all turbulence even at 6'3". Really looking forward to doing some serious riding this year.

    I tested the tracer 700 and tracer 900 back to back yesterday, coming from an XJ6 Diversion (first bike) and having recently ridden the new 2017 Suzuki 650 V-Strom. I'd go for the tracer 900 - no doubt! Most confidence inspiring, smoothest and most powerful engine at the same time, mirrors aren't great though and Yamaha charges a fortune for accessories - lucky for the aftermarket providers. Having said that, if I was going for another first bike - it would be a hard toss between the tracer 700 and the 650 Suzuki and I would have to test ride the Versys 650 and the Nc750x as well for good measure. The adventure style bikes are generally a great way to ride, reducing fatigue and giving you a great view of traffic and with potential to be super practical (top box!). We are spoilt for choice these days, great time to be a biker!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  Před 7 lety +1

      Agreed Robert! The Tracers are fabulous machines and a great step up in excitement following your XJ6 (I used to have one of those too!)....

    • @Dave-in-France
      @Dave-in-France Před 5 lety +1

      I tried the Tracer 900 when it first came out and the one I road was just dreadful ! The amount of general vibration on the bike made it impossible to enjoy - felt poorly put together as well. By comparison the 700 - for - is like a jewel of a bike.

    • @DavidslvPT
      @DavidslvPT Před 5 lety

      I think you will find the NC750X less comfortable for long rides than the Tracer, there's less knee bending on the Tracer, but that also depends on how both our bodies are different so take it as just my personal opinion on this.

  • @dratilhelvetedotlol
    @dratilhelvetedotlol Před 7 lety

    I like your "first ride" type videos, it's nice to get an experienced and open-minded riders opinion on the various bikes available.
    The Tracer 700 was one of the bikes I was most curious about since I bought the MT-09 Tracer brand new before the little brother was announced, and I'm fairly certain I'd have gone for the 700 if it had been on sale at that point.
    Funny enough at the time the actual choice I had was between the bigger Tracer and the XSR 700, not regretting the outcome...
    I can't wait to see you rewieving the MT-09 Tracer, and how you see it compared to other alternatives available.
    Thumbs up!

    Had been an owner of the Tracer 700 for 9 months and 6500 miles, I have to say there's a few things that are annoying.
    1. the lack of the centre stand made my life complicated when it came to clean the chain, moving the bike a few centimetres at a time is not pleasant, yes you can have something to lift the back wheel to do the job, but where are you going to store that piece of metal after, in my case there's no room for that.
    2. The horn button is just badly positioned, even after months I still had the problem of hitting the wrong button
    3. The cheap tool that comes with the bike to adjust the suspension is horrible, I hurt myself several times when that tool slipped out of the suspension, other bikes currently offer friendly ways of dealing with that.
    4. The heated seat, is a comfortable seat but it's not the most comfortable out there, specially if you attempt a 4 day riding (doing about 300/400 miles a day) you will feel sore.
    5. This bike was fabulous with the winter pack - this was an offer done by Yamaha around November 2017, although I'm not so sure if I would buy it again for the current full price of £8,300 - I think for that price there are other bikes out there that offer better options for the price.
    6. The "hand guards" are not hand guards, they are aesthetically beautiful but they provide 0 wind protection to your hands, fortunately the heated grips do help, but you better have some proper winter gloves and most likely some inner gloves, otherwise the option is to get a givi hand guard and that just takes the beauty of the bike away, also they will not protect you hands if you fall/crash.
    7. One last annoyance is the position to put air in the tyres, it's the most annoying job because they are straight and those disc brakes are on the way.. I was never successful at doing it first time, almost had to take all my gear out to fight the air system. :D
    I think that summarises all the downsides that I found as a owner the bike, and I wish someone would have covered that for me in reviews but we all have different views, this is just my opinion.

    Hi TMF, another good video from your goodself on the Tracer 700.
    I've owned one of these since last Oct (about 13 months) and done about 8000 kms since new. I bought her due to the ratio between power and lightness. But the thing that pleasantly surprises me the most is her economy!! (unlike most of the females I've encountered). I'm averaging (according to the onboard computer which seems to be accurate) 3.7 ltrs per 100 kms (about 75 mpg I think) so she gets used for all jobs in good weather, not just pleasure runs.
    Got a TEC exhaust on mine and it sounds gorgeous - a bit like my T100 on low revs, turning into a snarling beast as you climb up the rev range.
    I've had bigger bikes in the past, most recently Tiger 955/KTM 1190 Adventure/multiple GS's and I have to say that Trixie gives me more 'smiles per mile' than all the others put together !!!

I would appreciate a photo of the bike right at the start of the video because most of the bikes I have no idea what they look like until you do the walk around so I spend most of the video wondering. Nice review. When I rode one I felt the same about it. Comfortable, light, handles deftly and that cross plane engine is a marvel. I've got a TDM900 and to be honest I didn't really notice much difference in power. It has instant punch.
    There were a few things I didn't like though. The digital clock is just too small and set too low. I much prefer a big dial tachometer that I can read at a glance. Next up is the suspension, which was harsh and rattled my bones over any little bump. And last was the back brake felt vague and lacked feel.
    I will say also that there is already some talk of last years bikes not dealing with the English winter too well: furring and corrosion on various bits and pieces. But then I doubt it's any worse than bikes like the VStrom in that regard and will need a good coating of ACF50.

      Get the Tracer 700, it's an extremely easy bike to ride but still has that nice mt07 engine. I use it to commute mostly but it's also great fun in the more twisty roads. A smaller bike like a cb500x is a bit to slow to enjoy outside of commuting.

      The Tracer 700 was my first big bike, jumping straight from a Yamaha 125 YBR, had no regrets with the big jump and kept up with the other big bikes once you get use to this bike, as it was said you probably will be wanting more bike after a few months, I was feeling that way already with the Tracer 700, couldn't imagine myself on a 500cc.

    Great review once again. That constant damp weather really screws you riders in the UK. You gave this bike a 10/10 but I believe it's more of a "relative 10/10". IMO it does nothing great, but a lot of things adequately. So relatively to it's price point, the competition and as an entry-level big bike, then it's a 10/10

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

      Preferred the Yamaha and Suzuki over the Kawasaki in all departments, except brakes.
      I've always loved V-Twins and the V-Strom just fitted me better ergonomically (5' 11"). I found the bump on the Versys seat pushed me too far forward.
      In the end I preferred the characteristics of the V-Strom engine and the fact that it included traction control as standard was the clincher. :)

As a semi-retired old fart, nearly everything I have ever seen you ride has been *way* out of my price range! I have been getting interested in returning to the riding scene for a while, but have no idea what is out there. Maybe the DCT version) and was thinking of test riding this as someone else recommended doing so. You mentioned it was quite easy to put your feet down when sitting on the bike and as it is lighter, possibly manoeuvering it at low speeds. The Honda has the engine set much lower and at a different angle to normal which allegedly makes it easy to pull around. Is that the case with the Tracer?
