  • I found the parts to the Raleigh Superbe bike but the light had more rust than I expected. I show how I tried different methods to get the light to look good again.

    Nice video. Just got an old Raleigh Sports 3 speed for $75. Learning how to fix and restore this was helpful. My husband has a dremmel so I will try on some of the rusty spots.
    I found a replacement rear reflector and seat bag. Now on the hunt for a light like this. No idea how it works or attaches but hoping I can figure it out. Does it use a battery? Or how does it light?

    Nice job! I have a fully intact vintage battery operated Elite headlamp that has a sleeve to fit onto a Raleigh Heron Bracket...Wonder what it's worth in US dollars?

    Hey. I just bought a vintage Hamlet bicycle. Its a danish bicycle from 1960. It have some of the same parts, like the dynohub and the front light. I just started to fix it up a bit, but still keep it original paint.

      Good luck with your restoration. It's nice to keep it as original as possible.

    A good thing to do if you want to bring it to a complete shine from the point where you are I would say to get double zero triple zero and then quadruple zero fine steel wool and from where you've got it now it should bring out a real luster. luster. You can get it assorted probably in most hardware stores.

    I wish you showed how to put the clips that hold the lens and reflector back into place. I can't figure it out.

    This style of bicycle light is it from the 50's-70's?

    Can i use a battery to power it? If so which type? I got a headlight looks like that , but not from a raleigh though..and I’m planning to put it on to a ‘65 CCM Rambler

      If it was originally used with a generator a six volt battery would power it. Five Nicad or NiMh cells would do it. You would want them to be D-size cells. There are also possibilities for Lithium batts.

    too good willy- do you do some restoration for others too?

    • @perfectproductions5886

      I do not restore for others as it is labour intensive so would not be profitable and I like restoring bicycles as a hobby. I do sell some of the bikes when complete and use the cash for another project. I repair dinky toys and lately some of the old lead toy figures as they are usually thrown away when damaged.

    I bought a dynamo for my Raleigh, paid $45, and the bike repair shop says it's stuck and can't be fixed. It is not a dynohub, but a regular dynamo. Could I send you a pic so that you could tell me if there is any way of opening it to check whether it can be clean and fixed? I really would like to try everything before throwing it away...

    • @WillyDahm
      @WillyDahm  Před 3 lety

      I do not think this dynamo can be repaired as they were sealed. If you have a coop bicycle store they will sell second hand ones. A new one online is about $10 to $15

      If you are not mechanically inclined, someone who is could probably open it up, clean it out and relubricate it. These things are usually sealed up by crimping the bottom of the housing around the bottom plate. While difficult, the crimp can usually be opened up and carefully reclosed when the genny is reassembled. A little silicone rubber sealant around the joint will keep water out. The question though is, is it worth all that. Also, what condition is the shaft and bearing in? If it is badly worn then repair is uneconomical.

    Thank you, do you have a video for how the wires should be connected?

    • @WillyDahm
      @WillyDahm  Před 6 lety +1

      Video: Wiring Light to Dynamo Hub.
      These lights are very easy to wire from dynamo hub two wires the plus goes to centre of bulb connection and the minus goes to connector on the side of bulb.

      I found one in a coop bicycle repair shop where they have all sorts of old bicycle parts. I also found one on a pick for bicycle parts.
      They are getting harder to find.

  • @bonboncheese9661
    @bonboncheese9661 Před 3 lety

    How did you opened it?

    • @WillyDahm
      @WillyDahm  Před 3 lety

      It has a spring clip on the side. It's where the indentation is. Some may have a screw to hold it in place but mine just clips open like a door with a wire hinge.
