    • @KyrieChii
      @KyrieChii Před rokem +21

      Yeah, I'm only a few minutes into the 'Pierre' story & I already hate the guy. Your partner deciding to be with someone else _always_ sucks, but at least in today's world, the wife would've had the option to divorce in an equitable manner. But back then... Divorce (which only _he_ could ask for at that time) would've completely destroyed her reputation, likely gotten her shunned by society/kicked out if she attended a church, rendered her financially destitute & completely un-date-able, & worst of all: she may have lost ANY rights to their children, even visitation would've been completely up to him (& you _know_ he'd never have allowed it, & would've had them calling the mistress 'Mother').
      No, I don't agree with her killing him, & there should've been _some sort_ of punishment for it, but it's so hard to blame her for the desperation/frustration finally reaching a flashpoint =( I wish we taught young people, even my age (late 30's) more about what life was like for women during that era. So much of it is over-romanticized.

    Cora Crippen was pretty clearly the body in Dr. Crippen’s cellar: her head and torso were wrapped in Crippen’s pajamas.
    Poor Ruth: the transcripts of her trial, show her to be a very clear eyed, no nonsense and straightforward woman. Very likable, except for the whole “murder” thing. But she was obviously suffering from severe PTSD, and should never have been executed.

    Thank you for leaving the blooper in! On a serious note, I liked it that you opened the subject, saying "As many people believe" I have doubts, too.
    What if Belle killed one of her lovers.? I'm serious. She'd have a lot more time to dismember the body for starters.
    Then she made one last gesture of contempt for her husband and disappeared. No notice, no letter. She did take a few of her things, mostly ones that wouldn't be missed. It wasn't unusual for women back then to just have a few dresses so she left behind the 'showy' ones.
    "Gone Girl" could happen then too, perhaps more easily.
    When her friends started getting suspicious and hounded him, he made up a story that was probably close to the truth. So he trapped himself.

    I was an 8 year old schoolboy at the time of Ruth Ellis's execution, and I can say for certain that Capital Punishment "brutalises" society. I never quite got over the trauma of being so aware of the efforts which went towards getting Ruth a reprieve and yet, the British State, still killed her.

    Being a great story is truly among the best of the oldest pastimes. As a young boy I would love to listen to my grandpa tell of how things were when he was younger. To be able to tell a story is an art that few people can pull off. You are among those who can do this! I would bet that if you have children or grandchildren you would be so loved.

    I thoroughly enjoy your channel, somehow despite the gruesomeness of the stories you manage to make them very interesting without being the stuff of nightmares. Thank you.

    I love your narration of these stories. You definitely make them much more interesting and compelling. Your laughter at his being belittled for not showing the guy to the bathroom was hilarious. Because it was absolutely hilarious! Can you imagine such an ole bitty hen of a wife? Almost makes you feel sorry for him. Thanks and keep it up!

    You're such a fantastic story teller! Those, such as yourself, are so rare and so very needed in today's world. Thank you for sharing your gift with us! Have you ever thought of perhaps giving a Edgar Allen Poe Death Mystery or even a reading for Halloween? That would be wonderful

    Would love to see a colab with Mr Ballen, Adrian from Coffeehouse Crime, and Mike Oh from That Chapter, and Paul Brodie from Well, I never. Find the most epic story for them to take turns telling us, but make it like a Netflix Documentary. I'd pay money to see that.

    I would most definitely in interested in a group of stories, grouped together, i find each and every one of your blogs, well and thoroughly studied and researched, without, bias and 'fluff' that other people use to build such stories out; leaving you, wondering, just what, if anything is factual. Ì much prefer your renditions, most enjoyable and educational.
    Many thanks, I look forward to each and every one.

    The longer stories are great to go to sleep to. If I can only get the volume just right it would be awesome. The commercials are louder than you speak so it jumps way up and startles me lol. You do a great job and the wide variety of topics that you cover is always interesting. So again thank you from the USA my friend!
