Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 07. 2024
- We are Alaskans driving our 4x4 RV camper van through Canada during the 2nd wave of the covid19 pandemic. The Van Life day starts in Prince George, BC as we continue our push to the Canada/USA border. The winter weather is starting to subside but the long winter journey takes it's toll as we stop for the night in Hope, BC.
Rebecca has an embarrassing experience trying to cook breakfast in our microwave.
Then we get back on the road towards the Canadian border station to check out of their country and next to the USA border in Sumas, Washington.
***Our trip south through Canada falls under essential travel because we going down to the Lower 48 for work.

Thanks for sharing. Love the editing & narration. I'm subscribing because I want to see more. Wish you guys the best.
The yellow light warning is throughout the entire province of British Columbia that you were in. I'm not sure if it is in the rest of Canada but I think so. How it works is that if the speed limit on the road you're on is 70 kms or higher then they'll have the amber warning lights prior to the intersection but anything below 70 kms is just the intersection lights.
In London Ont we have a numeric countdown to the yellow above the blinking hand, the BMW's use it to see how fast they can go thru the light, lol
It was great watching your videos of your trio in the winter and seeing all the wildlife. Also thank you for being respectful of Canada during this tough time.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the series.
That is the new normal for Canadian Costco stores. They limit the number of people that are allowed in the store. Early in the pandemic the Costco near me had the line go all around to the back of the building. We decided to go shopping another day. Take care... safe journey!! 🇨🇦
Wow, I understand every area has its mandates but standing in line for hours to save $30 seems ridiculous. Lol.
But, their rotisserie chicken is pretty good!
Guy in the RV you met today, I'm glad you made it to LA Paz, lol...thanks for directing me to that cafe up the street, I was able to contact the Airbnb owner via the restaurants hotspot. Nice friendly folks ☺️!
Happy to help.
The food there won’t disappoint either.
I’m glad we were able to line up work in California back in December so we could come down here.
@@outliersoverland I'm a trucker so I understand the desire for adventure...I might buy a cheap lil place in la Paz for vacation, and perhaps settle down here...going back to work is hard sometimes, but needed for the lifestyle...time to go back minimalism , I believe.
That was a fun series to watch! Glad you guys made it safely!
Been to Canada 5 times from Oz and have lived there. My friend use to live at 100 Mile. Great little place that. Love the drive up there from Vancouver. Hope is a lovely town too
I remember watching your videos when you were travelling home to Alaska from Mexico via Canada! Your videos are always awesome! Safe travels you two!
Yes, it’s ironic how things come full circle.
We are all just doing our best through these interesting times.
Love your videos! So real.
Welcome to the lower 48! Keep us posted!
Thanks. Between gigs we have captured some amazing adventures.
Stay tuned!
God bless you guys with your journey! Thanks for sharing this someday we may get to visit Alaska. I appreciate you doing this! Love from AL & Diane in CT!
Thank you. You’re so kind.
We fell in love with Prince George also when we went thru in 2006 as we moved from Anchorage to Nevada for a sick MIL. Husband and I have joked if we ever won a lottery we would buy land there for Summers and back home in Alaska for winters. Opposite snow birds..
YaY! you made it safe! Winter driving and all. Hope the next leg goes as good!
Another great vid guys !
Oh boy - I am getting excited! You just popped up! Watching now!
Glad you’re enjoying the series.
Glad you made it through our country safely through all those very cold temps further north. Good luck with your work experience and stay safe.
I'm glad that you guys have made it through the border to the US. and look forward to your next adventure(s)!!🌲🌵🌅
Thanks. We look forward to sharing what we filmed between gigs.
Couldn't resist. Had to buy the Alaska audio book. I lived in Anchorage for 3 years as a child and yearning for a colorful history lesson. Thanks for the exposure. You guys rock. Be careful and enjoy.
Welcome to the lower 48. Glad to see you got here safely. Wishing you the best while here. Ty for sharing your journey.
Thanks. It felt good to earn a living and we even managed to make some amazing videos so far.
@@outliersoverland will you go back to Alaska to live?
@@susankenney7536 By all means yes. Our home is in Alaska.
I’d just as well fly next time we do though.
@@outliersoverland oh my what will you do with your truck? I imagine even beautiful as the trip is it's got to be hard on you and your wife Not to figure in the cost for gas etc. Best wishes to you both. Keep in touch with more videos.
I love listening to audio books.
You Tube recommend your site. I'm glad they did! Definitely subscribed!
Good content as usual! Stay safe and happy!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you made it safe.❤️👍🏻
Thanks!!!
Very nice I hope things go better now
Thanks. Yes things have gone well down here.
Thank for share. Muy bueno
Luv this channel!! 😍
I recognized the Border Restriction signs since we live close by. Glad you made it though Canada safely, and 3.5 days is quick including the obligatory Timmies run through the drive-thru! Great video guys! Have a safe trip to So Cal.
It’s it a little weird seeing places in someone’s video that you know personally?
Yes it was a wicked drive but driving was all we were allowed to do. Lol.
Welcome back to lower 48. Driving with no hands is not good. Enjoying the adventure. Travel safe.
Thanks!
There are more adventures to come.
I thoroughly enjoyed your journey. Welcome back to the lower 48! Good luck on the rest of your journey. I'm the only one in my family living on the east coast; everyone else is spread from Sacramento to San Diego. I've been watching your videos as I love overland camping and trying to decide whether or not to trade up from a Jeep Compass to a van or even a Class C camper. So much information is available on You Tube and consequently I take notes as I watch the videos. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Thanks!!!
California is a crazy place but absolutely beautiful in spots.
I dig the stealth boarder crossing recordings. Great job.
Thanks. We just prop a camera on the dash and let it roll.
God Bless you Both!
eye opener
I'm in Colorado and they started doing the flashing yellow lights for intersections a few years ago and it is great. Two, a good portion of your video looks like an hour west of my home and from New Mexico to Wyoming. It's gorgeous country.
Hi guys nice video and beautiful scenery good luck and please stay safe
I so love your videos , found during Lockdown here in the UK. And as Alaska is on my bucket list I may well be a visitor to your Air B&B sometime hopefully in the not to distant future x
Did the same thing 5 years ago, injured the same left arm, went down walking the dog on an icy road, the exact elbow bone ...and it still gives me trouble to this day. Had a belly laugh when you said you were enjoying a cuppa coffee Ben, because I too am having a coffee, but that container you were drinking looked more like a quart of coffee..
Stay safe in the CA! Good video!
Thanks. We stuck to the eastern side of the state and avoided a lot of the virus areas.
Glad you both made it safely through Canada. Hey Ben, I noticed a little gray in your hair since i began following you years ago. It looks great and shows wisdom!
thanks for the trip good luck
Love seeing you in my second home of Prince George. On your way back North next time, I recommend taking a 1 hour detour North East of Quesnel (pronounced Qwenell unlike what your GPS said) to the Gold Rush town of Barkerville. One of the best preserved towns from mid 1800's I've ever seen. You'll love it! Safe travels.
I was finally able to do with this series what Ben refers to as "Watch it like Mom." so you get your full couple cents from the ads!
The border crossing reminded me of a 24 hr jaunt we made from the North Shore of Superior, into Canada, and back into International Falls, MN. We had a pack of Mexican cherry tomatoes from a grocery store in Minnesota. After visiting with somebody's grandmother at the border, we were instructed to pull over to meet with an "agricultural expert". She turned out to be somebody else's grandmother and just as charming as the first. After chatting a few minutes, she said she didn't see the need to confiscate our tomatoes!
Continued safe travels to you two!
Hello Ben and Rebecca , the L 48 welcomes you and we are sure that will help you to make a living that was difficult for you back home , due to this crazy covid situation . Hats off to you guys for two reason . The first is that you overtake this long journey in one of the coldest month and had to contend with minus 20 temperatures which is no joke at all. The second reason is that since you are not essential workers there were no guarantee that Canada will let you through during the second lockdown , but you took your chances and it worked out just fine . But than again no book ever written about cowards .
Good luck down south take care be safe
Visited Hope several times...miss the wood carvings...Frasier River and Dino Town....living now in Brasil formerly from Anchorage...enjoying the sights...
Snowbirds here, listening to audio books, best way to make those long drives enjoyable. Hardest part is picking something we both want to hear.
Always interesting thank you for sharing we are so fortunate, our last restrictions finish on the 1st Feb so unrestricted travel around the country from then , stay safe cheers from Australia🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
If you haven’t made it to chilliwack (before the Abbotsford border crossing). Would meet you and bring you a meal💕
You’re so kind. Thank you.
Wow, you really put on some miles. If not already in southern ca, my best friend is a boondockers welcome host in the bay area. Called Bay area Bliss. 45 miles south of Sacramento. Thanks Don
Yes, it was a long haul. We had to get to Eastern California for a job.
I also enjoyed Cranston’s autobiography read by him. Did you get through Michener’s Alaska? It takes a long time but the people, places and crazy adventure stories are worth it. I loved the gold rush parts, the guy who bikes the frozen River and all of the Salmon fishing stories.
That's your boss be good to her. That's good that you got through Canada. They said on the news there's supposed to be a big storm coming up the Aleutian peninsula and through the Gulf of Alaska and back south. I hope the rest of the way goes easily for you both
We always tease each other!
Yes there are some huge storms that form in the Bering Sea.
Thanks
Great drive, good luck in California. You gotta do what you gotta do!
Thanks. We managed to work and capturing some amazing content between gigs.
We are in the middle of a pandemic, traveling between US and Canada is strictly prohibited since February 2020 unless you have essential business. Even within Canada the government ask us not to travel unless it is essential. And the law is for everyone!!!
Agreed!
Sad that COVID got in the way of a visit on the way down.
Safe travels
Cheers
K&Y
Delta, BC
Quesnel pronounced Kwe-nell.
Safe travels, Outliers! We'll meet-up one day in our Hino 3 ton truckhome...
In Nebraska...several places have the yellow flashing lights before traffic signals....and I agree...wish more intersections had them
You know, they can get you a robot arm now Ben ;) Also, Glad to see you two making your way down south :) Lastly, I get that w/ Eggs, had it happened a few times....
Now you get to purchase more maters and oranges in the lower 48. See, they know exactly what they're doing, lol. Y'all take care and thanks fir the video.
Canadian trucks can scale legally 140k lbs before permits are needed compared to 80,000lbs for trucks in the US. The extra warning traffic lights are probably necessary for everyday driving.
Have you ever thought of crossing at Coutts/Sweetgrass? It would add a few klicks to your journey but just maybe a bit faster and different scenery. Probably best to do during the summer as you would stay in a colder climate for a longer period of time.
Sorry about the citrus and tomatoes. Quesnel is French so it is pronounced with a silent "S" as if it were written "quenel" and Sumas is like the catholic mass so it is pronounced "Sue Mass". Sorry but many city names in Washington state are from various Native American languages so we need to be linguists to pronounce things in Washington correctly. You do really well for just passing through areas. Good job!
We really knew better, duh, but it completely slipped our minds with all the covid stuff.
Thanks for the pronunciations. It’s difficult when traveling.
Anchorage has those yellow warning lights for changing reds. Anchorage is in Alaska don't you know. Also, the Cassiar ends in Kitwanga, which is on the Yellowhead Hwy, 300 miles miles west of Prince George.
We have them in Calgary and Edmonton
Yeah in Yorton sk. we have those flashers on the major highway coming into town with lights, Its a great idea except for commuters who speed. They think if they drive fast enough they can beat the red cause they got warning. Usually results in the only accidents that happen at that intersection.
Next you'll learn to spell Yorkton correctly. Plus people in yorkton don't know how to drive..
Hope you feel better soon
Am glad you made it through and followed all the Covid rules. I wish you the best in your Journey! I only wish I would have heard an "ehh" from you since us Canadians are famous for that....lol
You drove past our house after you crossed into Sumas! Welcome to Wa...
When you said you were staying in Hope BC, I was like do you guys know that’s where they film Rambo First Blood?
Something told me that they would get you guys with the fruits and veggies!!🍋🍊🍎🍅
We knew better. Just got distracted with the covid stuff and forgot.
@@outliersoverland They probably wanted a stealthy snack!
Good luck.
Thanks Bill.
Be safe
I would use your van as my daily driver 🙂 very cool great living love it 💗.
Considering it fits into a parking spot, that is all together possible.
Que-nel, the s is silent despite what your sat nav says!
Thanks.
Lol.
The cost of travel is doing your best to pronounce things correctly.
Thank you for saving me from doing this :-)
@@outliersoverland you did great, your GPS on the other hand 😂 safe travels to you both. Hopefully we'll see you up this side of the border again when it's safe to do so.
@@outliersoverland Especially with First Nations' and European names.
In BC there is a rule regarding city names...If it's a Port a Fort or a Prince its a dump!
LOL!! True. You couldn't pay me to move back to Prince George.
Too funny!!!!
Local knowledge is priceless!
Thanks for watching.
Lightweights. When I moved from Left Coast to the East, my first day I drove 19 hours - with two golden retrievers!
Wow! I can't believe they confiscated your US-born tomatoes :-)
Seriously... isn't it amazing how tiring sitting on your butt all day can be?
Amen~!
long ride.. epic. I was just thinking.. do they have big ferry type boats to skip over the whole canadian thing?
Well guys you made it across the border. I'm glad my rentals are by the month not by the week,. they've been pretty steady only one tenant is behind and he's catching up. What GPS is it that you have that gives both the local road name and the highway number? I like that. Keep the good stuff coming.
Oh, you are heading for Southern California. That's where I am at. Hope you document the trip down here as well as I enjoy your travel posts. Too bad you can't take the 1 south of SF as a section washed out once again. Wonder what kind of work you'll be doing while down here.
Yes, we actually have 6 videos coming from the Eastern Sierra!
We accepted an videography / photography and property inspecting gig in Eastern California.
It was only a temporary job, but it helped pay some bills.
@@outliersoverland Great, looking forward to the videos. Good luck on your gig. That's great. Getting ideas ;-)
👍👍👍👍
They’re probably gonna take any fruit you may have when you go through the California border crossing too. Ridiculous but you probably already know that. Lol
Oh we knew that after all our border crossings, but with the covid mess it completely slipped our minds.
It's not ridiculous, there is a reason!
I've crossed California border many times with store fruit and they always smile and tell me that's fine.
Not sure if youve ever been to Ohio, but we have warning lights that flash about 100 yards before you get to a stop light, especially if the light is on the other side of a hill.
Try putting an egg in it’s shell. Cooks real good. 😉😉
BEN,
What you have done to your elbow is bruised the bone.
I have bruiser a couple of bones and it takes FOREVER
to quite hurting. But it will. Just be patient. And try not to WHACK it.
!
Our son played college hockey and had a couple deep bruises on elbows. It does take time.
This was an interesting video. I live in Seattle and last summer had planned on driving to AK but then the borders closed into Canada. So with your experience thru the border are they opened?
Thanks. The borders are by no means open. We accepted a gig down south that granted us passage.
I enjoy watching your videos! Wife and I visited Seward, AK. Halibut fish n' Chips and hiking Exit Glacier! Today is 01-30-2021, did you have to take a Covid test? Safe Travels
I once went through border Canada to USA with oranges grown in Florida. I had to throw them out.
Hope you will be able to return home to Alaska soon, via Canada, and take your time to explore when you traverse BC and The Yukon. Will be waiting for those videos! Stay safe.
Hope not, we don't need more covid brought in!
Hi Ben, what is that that you have bolted on your ceiling inside the cab? I could just see it at the border crossing n
I’m guessing it’s an oh sh** handle.
@@outliersoverland Hahaha I suppose you still have the standard one over the passenger door, but two!! That’s a lot of s**t!
The lines at Costco are due to reduced capacity limit (covid)
Quesnel is pronounced “Qwah-nell” Enjoying your videos!
With any injury, ice it immediately and you will not bruise...
Don’t you have to quarantine 14 days at any point!?!
When traveling for work you have to quarantine once you arrive at your final destination.
That’s also on a state by state basis.
Love your videos! Hey Rebecca how long did you cook that perfect egg McMuffin egg ? I'd really appreciate it thanks in advance.Blondie
Thanks. Lol
Well, in our 700w microwave running on our inverter we figured out 2 minutes at 50% power works.
@@outliersoverland awesome ! thank you so much my microwave is also 700 I know what I'm having for breakfast.lol
@@ssue4q no guarantees. Lol!!!!!
Are planning driving down northern California coast? If so its my home for 45 years can tell of places
Prince George is actually known for being high crime (19th worst for violent crime)
If you want a good audiobook look up fire on board by Michael Steen he is a CZcamsr wrote a book I thought it was very good about 3 hours long they have a stone made for microwave it Cooks 2 eggs at a time we have one it works excellent put a paper towel over it minute to 2 minutes done
Thanks for the book tip!!!!
I have driven it many times. Nice drive. Lived in Prince George, Smithers, Telka, Abbotsford etc. Nice thing about BC is you have access to the bush. Roads everywhere. Not like Alaska. It sucks here for access to the bush, no roads American customs agents are great. Canadian customs just terrible and rude. The Canadian crossing at Sumas is just awful. Come back through Aldergrove, much more kind and respectful.
How do you get across the border ,it’s supposed to be for essential workers only.
They scammed their way across!
@happy days
Piss off and quit being a troll.
We accepted a job down south so it was a legit passage.
What about the Canadian snow birds who are paying to have their RV shipped to Montana or Washington and catch a flight to the USA then head south for the winter????
Your fall might have injured you wrist flexors. Try looking for exercises for medial epicondylitis in youtube (Bob and Brad physical therapists), perform it twice a day, if you do I think the pain will be gone in 2-3 weeks. Good luck!
So how do you make a years worth in a few months in the States?
You don’t. We lead an alternative lifestyle and at a basic level we pick up pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters with the goal of it adding up to the buck that we need to exist.
It can be challenging but it sure beats going to a job Monday through Friday and only getting two weeks off a year to travel.
Thanks for watching.
REBECCA,
You say you can feel the change happening??
!
What part of california? We're in hemet california.
