  • Today, I bring you this cruel legend of Mount Kachikachi. I was shocked to see them display this on the panoramic cable car of Mount Fuji. What do you think of the story? My version of the story's motto would be "don't mess with the forest creatures" hahaha.
The "Kachikachi" is an onomatopoeia related to the sound of a fire crackling, and you can clearly relate this to the legend. Interestingly, Osamu Dazai rewrote Kachi-Kachi Yama with his original interpretation in Otogi-zōshi (お伽草紙, a Japanese collection of tales), a fatal story where the rabbit is a beautiful yet naive and cruel young girl, and the tanuki is a foolish man who is in love and remains submissive to her.
Although we couldn't see Mount Fuji this time, we really enjoyed the experience and took the opportunity to explore the area. Here's a tip for those visiting on a sunny day to catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji!
