      @@richferguson6860 I think it probably was. (It kind of bugged me--I watched the commentary on the DVD of the 1953 War of the Worlds with Joe Dante and Bill Warren, author of Keep Watching The Skies--and they mentioned the name and that they didn't like MST3K. Apparently, Joe Dante doesn't like the fact that they occasionally covered relatively good movies, like Marooned/Stranded In Space and This Island Earth, and Bill Warren doesn't like the fact that they dismiss early sci-fi movies as cheesy and bad. I don't take that view at all--I'm fine with riffing even good movies, and I think you can acknowledge the good parts of early sci-fi while still poking fun at the cheesier aspects.)

    When I first saw ads for this in the newspaper back in '82 I thought it was a movie that parodied all those old drive-in type movies of the '50s through the '70s, so I skipped it in theaters. When I finally got cable a couple of years later I watched it and I was immediately a fan. After that my friends and I would haunt the local video rental places, not for porn or the latest Hollywood blockbusters, but all the really bad movies we could get and we did the same thing Gilda Radner, Cheech & Chong, John Candy and Dan Aykroyd did: make fun of the movies and their sheer inanity, piss-poor dialogue and special "defects," if I may be so bold as to quote legendary late night horror movie host John Zacherle. I still occasionally do the same thing today. I've probably seen at least 60% of the movies spotlighted in this.

    Why this terrific compilation movie is not available is a damn shame. It is a bit of a hit and miss with the segments but when it's good it is hysterical. The best one has to be Cheech and Chong's salute to drugs in movies. I watched a great majority of these terrible movies as a kid back in the 70's on Friday night (Creature Features) and Saturday mornings (Chiller Theater) and have a great but guarded fondness for them. What I enjoyed most about them was that the monsters usually went after adults. What could be more subversive for a kid to watch. Plus we get to see the late great Gilda Radner and John Candy----and Cheech and Chong who are dead only in their careers.

    A classic. While it's amazing the crap that gets green-lighted in Hollywood these days (Sharknado 4 anyone?), the stuff done in ages past is JUST as pathetic (and funny).

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII Před 8 lety +2

      Nah... Sharknado is SMALL potatoes. Look at all the superhero films and the last few Star Trek movies. You consider most of that stuff HIGH ART?!?!?!?
      It's not just about quality. The amount of money being spent to make BAD films is OBSCENE!
      I'm far more impressed by modestly-budgeted films that actually make money even if it's not $1 billion.
      I can't see how a system that's producing films that routinely cost over $150million to produce -- without figuring in advertising -- can continue to function.
      I have an easier time rooting for modest, pathetic stuff than productions that can literally pay to send people to the moon!

      You want to see an obscene amount of money spent on a bad film? Try the Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton version of Cleopatra. That was the first movie that cost 1 million dollars and was a huge box office bomb.
      I don't consider Star Trek etc to be 'high art'. That's rare in Hollywood these days. But some of the storytelling is better than some other crap floating out there.

    Okay, I don't want to be that guy but the cat wouldn't attack him. If anything the cat would protect him. The cat would recognize his scent and therefore the cat would, well depending on the relationship he had with said cat, the cat would be curious but not attack him. That's just so unrealistic.

    This is way better than 90 percent of the crap coming from Hollywood now. Like I recently rewatched the first season of True Detective. So good. Then I started watching the New Season 4 of the same show. Total garbage.
