I watched it a lot on HBO when I was ten or eleven. It tickled me to see that many of the movies spotlighted here showed up on MST3K. In fact, this seems like an ancestor of MST3K with the comedians occasionally riffing the clips!
You prolly dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my brother for the last few days :)
I saw this in the theaters and I was completely changed. It's so hard to recognize how far removed we felt from the 1960s in 1982- we're talking about movies that were only 20-35 years old.
@@richferguson6860 I think it probably was. (It kind of bugged me--I watched the commentary on the DVD of the 1953 War of the Worlds with Joe Dante and Bill Warren, author of Keep Watching The Skies--and they mentioned the name and that they didn't like MST3K. Apparently, Joe Dante doesn't like the fact that they occasionally covered relatively good movies, like Marooned/Stranded In Space and This Island Earth, and Bill Warren doesn't like the fact that they dismiss early sci-fi movies as cheesy and bad. I don't take that view at all--I'm fine with riffing even good movies, and I think you can acknowledge the good parts of early sci-fi while still poking fun at the cheesier aspects.)
This was one of the many movies during the '80's in my childhood that I watched over and over again whenever it came on cable. Loved it then and still love it now!
I remember seeing this on some forgotten mid-'80s afternoon when I stayed home sick from school. I was turned onto so-bad-they're-good movies way before MST3K. I still recall how amazed I was to learn about Ed Wood, Jr. 'cause remember, this was released more than a decade before the Tim Burton bio-flick. What wonderful memories of schlock. I branched out and started watching Troma Films soon afterwards.
It's probably not an overstatement to say that this is the movie that introduced Ed Wood Jr. to mainstream America. Most of us never heard of him or his work until seeing this.
When I first saw ads for this in the newspaper back in '82 I thought it was a movie that parodied all those old drive-in type movies of the '50s through the '70s, so I skipped it in theaters. When I finally got cable a couple of years later I watched it and I was immediately a fan. After that my friends and I would haunt the local video rental places, not for porn or the latest Hollywood blockbusters, but all the really bad movies we could get and we did the same thing Gilda Radner, Cheech & Chong, John Candy and Dan Aykroyd did: make fun of the movies and their sheer inanity, piss-poor dialogue and special "defects," if I may be so bold as to quote legendary late night horror movie host John Zacherle. I still occasionally do the same thing today. I've probably seen at least 60% of the movies spotlighted in this.
Why this terrific compilation movie is not available is a damn shame. It is a bit of a hit and miss with the segments but when it's good it is hysterical. The best one has to be Cheech and Chong's salute to drugs in movies. I watched a great majority of these terrible movies as a kid back in the 70's on Friday night (Creature Features) and Saturday mornings (Chiller Theater) and have a great but guarded fondness for them. What I enjoyed most about them was that the monsters usually went after adults. What could be more subversive for a kid to watch. Plus we get to see the late great Gilda Radner and John Candy----and Cheech and Chong who are dead only in their careers. My favorite quote: Kill that hairy sonavabitch!!!!
There are just as many bad movies being made these days as ever, but they don't have the heart that this older stuff has. I never thought I'd miss these hokey old flicks, but I was wrong. Memories ...
Thanks for uploading this, I use to watch this on TV here in Canada when I was a kid, it will always be one of my first introductions into the Horror genre!
I went to see this 3 or 4 times when it came out, always to mostly empty auditoriums during it's short initial run, even though I detest the "so bad it's good" mentality it exemplifies. The clips were just so irresistible and inspired me to seek out many of the titles I hadn't yet seen or heard of.
For me a lot of these movies are more worth watching than the drivel they now call movies these days. I've gotten to that point where I don't think anything modern is worth watching.
@schizoidboy I know exactly what you mean. I haven't seen a movie in a theater since 2007 and I don't know the meaning of Netflix. I love my old classics and b favorites but have no use for current trash.
I had this taped off the TV as a kid, only because Dan Aykroyd was in it and he was a Ghostbuster! A strange viewing experience for a 10 year old... It was the first time I heard about Ed Wood (and the first time I saw Cheech and Chong). Looking back, it's years ahead of its time; Mystery Science Theatre 3000 wasn't until about 10 years later. In fact, a lot of the films featured (...Mixed Up Zombies, The Violent Years etc) were done by MST3K.
😮Oooohhh I haven't seen this in years!! Before MST3K we had It Came From Hollywood! I actually saw this as part of a drive-in double feature with Jekyll and Hyde. . .Together Again! I remember my parents freaking out reminiscing about all these great B movies while my brother and I ate popcorn and cotton candy just waiting for Cheech & Chong and John Candy to come back on 😆 Thanks for this!!
This movie is the gateway drug to searching out and watching "B"s. Saw it back in the eighties and have been collecting and checkin' 'em out ever since!

I thought your comment was written by my little girl when I started reading it. She's 40 now LoL
I watched it a lot on HBO when I was ten or eleven. It tickled me to see that many of the movies spotlighted here showed up on MST3K. In fact, this seems like an ancestor of MST3K with the comedians occasionally riffing the clips!
It should be illegal for this much talent to be jammed into one movie.
So good to see Gilda Radner in this after all these years.
Love ya Gilda, R.I.P.

I almost skipped this but after the first 15 minutes, it actually starts getting pretty good. Worthy to be part of this Web Junk pilgrimage.
Lee Jorge Much respect to a fellow pilgrim.
I used to watch this as a kid. It was on HBO everyday back in 82-83.
