- this was ripped from one of the rarest tv pilots around, the jon brion show! jon brion shot this pilot back in 1999 for vh1 and it includes jon performing with friends in a largo type of setting like jon usually does at largo. well, elliott was one of the performers featured in the pilot and the pilot includes 2 scenes. one short moment with jon and elliott trying to work out a version of say yes and a performance of elliott doing 'see you later!'

Seems like Elliott Smith did some of his best work with Jon Brion. If anyone has ever tried to save someone they love from killing themselves with drugs you can imagine the agony Jon probably feels over their fallout and Smith's death. Jon Brion is an amazing talent in his own right.
Jon's probably one of the sweetest, most brilliant an dhumble men ever. sad that someone judges him based on this one minute clip. his record "Meaningless" is one of the best albums written and put to tape and I find it horribly sad that he has no plans to make a second album ever.
it could have been great had Atlantic not left it on the shelves for years.
he truly is a wickedly talented guy and one of the finest producers and engineers in the world today.
Every fourteen years you find one other person who also loves “Meaningless”. Hi!

@eksistentialisti And now you can! somebody posted the whole pilot a few weeks ago, there's not tons of Elliott in it, but Jon...well Jon is Jon...and that's a great thing to be. I'd give you the link but if you search "Jon Brion Show Pilot 1/1" it should come up.
@birdiesoaring , Yes, his expression is so tender, he just seems to need to be embraced, and all, could be overcome. Why was not it? Only we, just now, we see that this is so? He had no one around who loved him so much? It was so impossible? Yes, this time of year is really sad.
Depression and addiction aren't issues that can just be solved by a loving embrace unfortunately. Often the people who try to show you the most love are the ones you push away the hardest because you're terrified of letting them down or not living up to who you believe they perceive you to be. Maybe just through sheer self loathing and guilt. Lots of people loved Elliott while he was alive but sometimes the world hurts you so deeply that the love others have for you is obscured or ineffective.
