    _______
    Bryce Harper 2015 might be the best season in recent memory, at least since Barry Bonds. 22 year old Bryce Harper lit up the post-Bonds world. Bryce Harper was the most hyped draft prospect ever. It started with his high school seasons, as well as his sick Bryce Harper Juco highlights. He won Rookie of the Year, and baseball seemed poised to become Trout vs Harper for the next decade.
    2015 represented the best season we saw from the Bryce Harper Nationals years. He dominated to the tune of .330/.460/.649 slash line, and also put up the highest wRC+ since Barry Bonds. It's no shock that this culminated in a Bryce Harper MVP, the first (and so far only) of his career. So when he failed to reach those great heights in the following few seasons, baseball fans were perplexed. Is Bryce Harper overrated? Many seem to think so. In fact, it's possible that, if anything, we now live in a Bryce Harper underrated time. After all, how can you argue that someone is the most overrated player in baseball if everyone agrees?
    Some other things we'll discuss include comparisons to Mike Trout and Christian Yelich, the expected value of Bryce Harper Phillies contract, as well as an examination of Bryce Harper defense and Bryce Harper WAR.
    I hope you all enjoy this episode of Baseball Bits, a Foolish Baseball production. The status of MLB seems shaky as I write this, so hopefully I can continue to entertain regardless of how much baseball is actually being played.

      If you have time, please explain how Bryce Harper brought the title to D.C. Was it the compensation the Nationals got for his free agent departure? Was it the payroll freed up by his leaving? Was it a lift in clubhouse morale or the realization that he was no longer there for the team to ride on?
      Pardon my denseness: I'm just missing how his subtraction from the squad fulfilled his prophecy.

      It seems like after 2020, Bryce has stabilized his skill set. He's got another MVP, an NLCS MVP, and he nearly drug a team to the playoffs last year all by himself. Bryce Harper in the second half of 2021 was similar to what Aaron Judge did for the Yankees in the second half of this year.
      His injury this year is the best thing ever for the Phillies. It allowed him to come back for just long enough to knock the rust off, then lock him fully in when playoffs came. I am so glad that the Phillies got enough help for him this year, so they didn't need him full time to make the Playoffs. It has allowed us to witness a man going BEAST MODE!!!!
      It's not the 5 HR he's hit, or the doubles, or all the walks he is drawing... It's the damn timing. He is doing all this in very high leverage situations. That HR he first hit, tied the game. The second HR of the series won the damn game. He scored tying runs, winning runs on the basepaths, ect.
      It's reminding people of why he's the reigning MVP. In 2021 it wasn't that he hit like 30 doubles and 20 HR in the second half that was impressive, it was that over half of them came with his team trailing or tied to give his team the lead.

      Huong Dieu Your entire statement doesn’t make sense for several reasons. He’s already achieved a TONNN in his 8 year career. NL ROY, 200+ HR, MVP, HR Derby Champ, and has made the All-Star game almost every year. He’s another MVP and a World Series ring away from being an automatic HoF, has the possibility of hitting 600 HR (unlikely but 500 is certainly attainable) due to the DH. And you said it yourself “inconsistent”...yes, he is, but when he’s on he’s ON FIRE. Those stretches boost his numbers dramatically and allow him to rack up the stats. Nobody will care about inconsistency when voting for him because he’ll have ridiculous numbers to back up his play. He also proved he is a borderline elite defender last season which will naturally help his cause. 30 career WAR and counting....275 avg, 200 HR, and nearly averages 100 walks and 100 RBI a season with around .900 OPS. He’s a no doubt HoF if he keeps it up and he’s just hit his prime. It really doesn’t matter how inconsistent he is season-to-season because his “bad” seasons are still good if not great seasons for most other players

    As of mid-September 2021, Bryce Harper has a a 0.436 wOBA for the 2021 season. So *MVP-level, at about how halfway between his great 2017 season and his monstrous 2015 season.* The Phillies are also contending for a division lead, and the Nationals are nowhere near playoff contention.

      @UTNatlChamps Před 3 lety +8

      dc07932 I agree, he is overrated, at least compared to how many think of him, as he was wildly lucky in 2015 and lucky in 2017, based on his underlying peripherals of way outperforming his xOPS and xWOBA (specifically in 2015). By FG, he has only been All-Star caliber in three seasons (5+ fWAR, and I’m counting his 2013 and 2017 years as he was injured). His defense is below-average by UZR and the defensive spectrum even taking out his 2018 season. He has had two seasons with a wRC+ above 140. He has underperformed his peripherals these past couple seasons, so he may be due for some positive regression, but don’t expect a guy who will put up consistent .950+ OPS and 145 wRC+ figures. He’s just not that type of hitter.
