which batman version do you like the most?
thank you for watching. if you are interested and able to support, you can at patreon.com/sagesrain. have a great day.
The animated series it’s just a classic show
Probably new 52 like justice league animated Batman with Damien and early 2000s justice league Batman just my personal favorites
Brave and the bold🙏🙏
Mask of the Phantasm
DCAU Batman
Something that stands out to me about the Batman The Animated Series Batman is how often I hear him say "Let me help you."
The most powerful moment of that though it's in the killing joke. His plea for Joker to let him help him even after all he took from him
@Big Chez Dude! I never even noticed?! A major oversight for me!
He's a polite dude
Needs 1k likes ❤️
The place where that statement impacted me the most in the Animated series was his attempt to reach out to Harvey Dent, Two-Face. Easily one of my absolute favorite episodes
"If your batman can't empathize with the people he fights, can't bring himself to console a child in chaos, then that's not batman, that's punisher in a funny hat."
OSP reference
I think even the Punisher can console a crying child
yeah, that's one of the reasons why I hate zack Snyders batman.
LMFAO
A fan of Overly Sarcastic Productions? I see you are a man of culture as well.
for batman to be next to ace, a dying little girl who had an immense telekinetic and psychic power strong enough to warp reality, was one of the most heroic yet sad things to see in the animated show. batman knew how ace felt in that she was a kid who also got her childhood cheated from her. batman even allowed ace to read his mind when normally he blocks his mind to other people. it was honestly so sad to watch that scene but it reminds us of batman’s compassion. everyone was ready to be the city’s hero but only batman was ready to be ace’s hero. also a little fun fact: batman named his dog ace in batman beyond!

This is honestly the missing ingredient from the live action movies. They keep forgetting his compassion, that’s what made him so freaking good in the cartoons. Just like how Superman isn’t all sunshine and rainbows in his best interpretation, Batman also isn’t gloom and darkness.
Hopefully this new version will explore that more.
I'm getting serious BTAS vibes from it
The Snyder Cut has a pretty good humanistic BatMan
@@BoTheJo maybe he's more humanistic than in BvS, but Snyder's interpretation is *not* Batman. It's the Punisher with a lot of money and a edge for bat-themed paper mache
@@sebastianhaney1425 I respectfully disagree.
@@BoTheJo elaborate how it shows his compassion
Fear leads to Anger.
Anger leads to Hate.
Hate leads to Suffering.
Suffering Leads to Wisdom.
And Wisdom leads to Empathy.
That's some of yoda quotes
Tale of Darth Vader. Sidious never suffered nor felt emotions.
I've heard this quote before
Empathy leads to fear
I’d say it goes this way if you manage to dilute your anger and not get to the hatred phase. To simply accept the suffering that comes with fear and anger, and the fact it won’t last forever. If you let hatred in and get lost in it, you won’t come to the kind of suffering that leads to wisdom.
I think on the inside batman cried for that girl because not only they relate to each other's pain but also when she asked him to stay with her because she was scared too die
It's cause he knows what it's like to have their childhood taken away ☹️
Hell you can see for the slightest moment a sad expression on his face when he appears with her in his arms.
I feel like people too often forget that Bruce Wayne didn't decide to become Batman purely bc he was wrecked by his parents death, but bc he wants nobody, no kid to ever feel the way he did/does. I wish more mainstream portrayals of him highlighted that
Yes! People describe him as being motivated by vengeance, but I don't think he's vengeful against people. He's vengeful against the bad. He's seen that terrible things happen to people, so he wants to save them from the bad.
@@eyesofthecervino3366 or they say he is unhinged weak for not killing his enemies.
How batman creates his villains.
@Max x Roxanne 4ever In a way, Clark Kent did chose to be Superman. Like Bill said in Kill Bill, Superman was born Superman.
That's literally Gotham, Batman Begins, DCAU, most of the animated movies he's in, Adam West's Batman...it's more than you think.
I think OSP Red said it the best: "If you can't imagine your version of Batman comforting a dying girl, that is not Batman, its the Punisher in a funny outfit." Its not the exact quote but that is roughly it.
She hit the nail on the head. That's how every writer should try to make their version of Batman.
exactly, I miss the real batman.
I think it was a crying child instead of a dying one
Funny thing, Frank actually looked after a little girl when she was kidnapped by her father and even got ice cream for her before he got her back to her mother so even The Punisher has compassion, it’s just a bit more selective.
@@kareemmasri3934 Knowing Frank it was probably because she reminded him of his dead child :(
At the end of the Killing Joke, Batman flat out tells the Joker he wants to help and offers the chance to Joker to let him take him in and try to rehabilitating him. It shows that Batmans wants to save everyone
Good example
I love that moment. It's such a cool bit of characterization.
And also The Batman:Hush Ending where he tells catwoman that he tries to save everyone.and that also the reason why he broke up with her :((
He even laughs at the Joker's bad joke.
And even though Joker acknowledges how twisted it is given everything he's done Bruce says he would have saved him at the end of Arkham City before Joker dies.
I know how hard it is to rebuild a life. I had a bad day too once.
*- Batman*
Nice guys like you shouldn't have bad days - Harley Quinn.
Ace: I got cheated out of my childhood.
Batman: I know what that's like.
I also remember someone commenting on a video of the Baby Doll episode that she was a woman who never got to have an adulthood where Bruce is a man who never got to have a childhood.
As troublesome as Snyder’s Martian Manhunter really is, at least he’s right about one thing: Bruce’s parents would be proud of everything he had done.
What is this from m?
The long halloween implies Batman takes care of feeding grundy every night before patrolling after he fights him in the sewer. Bruce is a beautiful person.

IS Batman
PERFECT
Batman comforting Ace is one of the single best scenes in DC
Brings me to tears easily when I'm usually as stone cold as the bat himself
That's the Batman missing from movies.
WB focus too much on making him the Punisher with a bat costume. While DC gets it right.
The DCAU has the best version of Batman imo. The JLU episode "Epilogue" is my favorite because it highlights Bruce's humanity and how often he's misunderstood by others (ie. by Terry and Amanda Waller at one point). His empathy is what allows him to stand as an icon among the world's greatest heroes.
I really liked that episode and it just kills me to see all the grimdark edgy 90s heroes and parodies of Batman because they totally missed the point of his character.
Batman is a man who is driven by revenge and anger yes but at the same time he values the life of innocents and does not want tragic events to occur to anyone due what happened to him that is what makes him a hero his self discipline and motivation to defend and fight for Gotham no matter the cost.
Sages rain just enhances my understanding of humans and characters.
He really does 👍
No cappp
Amen to that!
Frrr
Sages rain videos > college level psychology classes
What I learned from Batman was not just him being a badass beating the crap out of ppl, being a detective, or being dark & angry, it was how to be a good person and help others in need.
That’s what truly makes Batman awesome, he may be cold and distant at times, but he’s not heartless.
The strongest people are the kindest
Fun fact: Strongest people are those who control their anger because anger only leads people to their downfall.
The best description of what Batman is, comes from the Kingdom Come miniseries: "...when you scratch away everything else from Batman, you're left with someone who doesn't want to see anybody die."
One of the best moments from The Batman that helped cement it as the best live action movie imo is in the end, when he leads the citizens of Gotham to the light and waits there as they are evacuated one by one, when he has compassion and decides to be a hero, not just a vigilante
I loved that scene
Batman's compassion is immortalized to me in the comic panel of him holding Tim Drake tight after his father was murdered. He doesn't need to say a word about how much he can relate to Tim in that moment. All he needed to say was "I've got you."
This is my Batman. He is the Batman who cannot mourn. That is why he cannot move on. And yet, he sees the mourning in others, and is absolutely there to help them through it. This is why Batman cannot kill. People who cannot mourn can or kill.
Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm is an excellent example of Bruce struggling with his desire for happiness, and his desire for justice. There is a powerful scene in which Bruce mourns and cries over his parents graves, lamenting the fact that he has found happiness, but his job is and never will be finished. He's lost, and found at the same time.
I think if Andrea had stayed, Bruce would've let go of the Mission and actually been happy being with her.
@Omar Cogle That's precisely what would've happened. Andrea was a major factor in Bruce being caught in the scales between Batman and normal life. Alas, we all know how things turned out.
@@kungfumaster51 Exactly, and what's sad is that after Andrea, none of the other women in Bruce's life other than possibly Selena has made him really happy.
It's interesting how batman is so capable of understanding others emotions, yet so unable to express his own. He would rather throw himself into dealing with others pain than his own.
Unfortunately people are growing to hate him nowadays
@@baki484 Why
@@adriancarrillo9627 seems people just enjoy it. Also it could be that DC is always using, and he tends to "take" away the spotlight from other heroes in his universe. Which is funny since it's been the same with Spiderman on marvels side of things.
@@baki484 I guess that makes sense with so many characters available they could just use other characters.
@@adriancarrillo9627 but when they don't do well with the mainstream? You don't think they will jump back to batman? I don't think I'll ever hate batman love that character.
Batman’s humanity and empathy for some of his villains is something missing in plenty of Batman adaptations. Really made this show stand out.
RIP Kevin
I really wish we can see more of this Batman. Not just his edginess or badassery which is often displayed on live action films.
I grew up with Kevin Conroy Batman. And Imo that is the one true Batman for me. I forget the name of the VA who voices Batman in Apokolis War, but he's starting to grow on me too
Jason O'Mara
@@joshheralal8758 thank you. That helps

I grew up with Kevin Conroy as Batman and Bruce Timm/Paul Dini as writers for the animated series as well.
Sparing the gory details, I had a pretty rough home life during childhood and I wrote a letter to Kevin Conroy. I asked him how to be like Batman because I wanted to protect my sister.
Kevin, Bruce, and Paul all signed the reply letter and gave me their heartfelt answers. They told me that I already was the Bat because I was doing everything I could to protect the innocent and that I was using my tragedy to motive me to do right and that I was using it as a reminder to always be kind to others.
They also sent me some signed merch and a signed drawing. I still have all of it to this day, 20 years later.
The community knows this already, but, for me personally, because of that letter, Kevin Conroy is the one and only Batman and my hero.
And Mark Hamill as the Joker
The moments that make me love this version of Batman are the moments when he's the most empathetic. Seeing him keep Ace company so she doesn't die alone, seeing him comfort Robin while he's mourning his parents, seeing his righteous anger after seeing villains victimize children, and seeing him allow Mr. Freeze to break out of prison visit his wife's grave on a white Christmas were my favorite moments of the character and made him feel like a living, breathing human. I wish more of his empathy and vulnerability was explored onscreen bc he has the oppurtunity in these renditions to exist as both a firm badass and a vulnerable father figure who has a strong sense of justice.
As Overly Sarcastic Productions has said “Could you picture this Batman comforting a scared child? If yes, congratulations, that’s a certified Batman. If not, I’m afraid you instead have the Punisher in a silly hat.”
I remember in one episode where Superman ‘died’ and Batman was at his grave and he sombrely says how much he respected Superman for showing him that his brutal violent methods were not the only form of justice. And he said it so genuinely that there was no way he could be as heartless as they say.
In Batman Begins, Bruce had a conversation with Ra’s about compassion, with the latter stating that his compassion was a weakness his enemies wouldn’t share. Bruce argued that it was necessary because it separated him from them. Beneath all the pain and solitude from his losses and all the tragedy in his life, he’s one of the most compassionate and caring. Those close to him know that..
Then set the whole place on fire killing the guy, fake ras al ghul, and some ninjas
(Sorry, but wasn’t avoidable to ignore.)
@@legoben98productions okay so he throws the fire stick above where no people are so he was giving them time to get out, the only one that died was fake Ras who was pushed by Bruce and he fell to the floor at the same time falling debree came down so Bruce couldn’t have known that that was going to happen, so the guy just died from unfortunate circumstances that wasn’t ultimately caused by Bruce. And he even saved ducard from falling to his death so yeah... you’re argument is just not there for me
In Comics And Theory The One Actually Byrnes The Whole Place Down Was Ras Al Ghul Bruce Thrown The Fire Stick Upwards And Was Not Going To Actually Burn The Whole Place In Just Few Minutes The Fire Could Be Cool Down And Be Avoided In No Time Even A Child Could Have Survived And The One That Actually Burn The Whole Place Was Ras Al Ghul From It And Every Ninjas Did Escaped And Comes In The End Of The Movie See The Movie Again!
@@BrettAlanActor he's still responsible for the deaths of those people. He refused to directly kill a man, yet willingly indirectly killed dozens of others moments after
@@elijahlee3610 all I’m saying is there’s a huge difference between Bruce Wayne throwing a stick of fire with the intention of burning the place down and also giving everyone a chance to get out, which most of them did because we see pretty much all of the ninja’s come back at the end of the movie, than him in BVS throwing a giant box at a guy’s head with his brains splattered on the wall with full intentions of murdering that person, that’s not Batman. The only direct death we see come out of that scene in begins was as a stated fake Ra’s which as a stated was not Bruce Wayne’s fault as the guy just coincidently fell in a place where there was debris falling. And as I said before he even went out of his way to save ducard.
This is the compassionate side of Batman that I’ve always known since childhood, the dark Knight that wants to see the good in everyone despite his mission of vengeance and I am So grateful that the Justice League/ Animated Series Batman was the one I was introduced to first
All you ever need to know about Batmans compassion is how he handled Ace when she had her meltdown. It was beautiful and tragic.
RIP to the one true Batman. Kevin Conroy will be missed
RIP Kevin Conroy the depth you brought to the character will be forever cherished
Thanks for this video. It’s something so many overlook these days, That Batman is one of the most compassionate characters out there
I really like the Batman portrayal in the Batman telltale series , it focuses on Bruce Wayne more than it does batman , he has friends and is shown to have fun and enjoy himself at times , he just feels more real to me that way , Bruce is the real person and Batman is the mask
Thas cuz in most iterations batman is who he is n acts like Bruce Wayne, cuz when you think about it he rather be Batman then put on an act as Bruce Wayne
Kevin Conroy was amazing in this scene. It is sad he has passed. However, it was heartwarming that he was still doing nice videos for fans until he couldn’t do it anymore. The respect and honor his cast mates have shown him has been well deserved.
I always loved that Bruce named his dog in Beyond after her, showing how much she meant to him 🙏🏽
This is why Batman is one of my favorite heroes.
It's why he's my favourite character of all time.
This scene is more sad and iconic now. R.I.P Kevin Conroy
Conroy is and always will be the definitive voice of Batman. Rest easy, dark knight.
RIP Kevin Conroy.
The scene with Batman and Ace is one of my favorite scenes in any TV show. I love the idea of Batman being surrounded by darkness and still have so much compassion.
“The last thing she ever felt was the warmth of another’s hand, the Cold Hearted Batmans.”
Sage Rain: I 100% agree with you. Kevin Conroy's version of Batman & Bruce Wayne is the best. He had so much time to show the compassionate side of Batman. It reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the Dark night rises.
Bruce Wayne/Batman: A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended.
Thank you for reminding me why Bruce Wayne from the DC Animated Universe is one of my favorite interpretation of Batman (the other being Terry McGinnis from the said animated universe).
RIP Kevin, you wil be missed
R.I.p Kevin Conroy
I'm here watching these videos after learning of Kevin Conroy's passing. Rest in peace to a legend
Rest in peace Kevin
That's the reason why I love the character not because of how cool he looks or his fighting and detective skills but because through all that darkness he's just a good man trying to do the right thing. I feel like batman fans tend to foregt that he's a hero just like superman or spider-man.
“The warmth of the cold hearted batman.” Says it all ❤️
RIP Kevin Conroy. I love Batman BECAUSE of You.
Ducard: Your compassion is something your enemies will not share
Bruce Wayne: that's what makes it so important
RIP Kevin Conroy. His moments with Ace are among my favorite scenes from JLU
Batman has always held the most compassion and empathy to me that’s the side of Batman I like the most, he has humanity deep down although he may not share it outwardly.
His heart is buried by loss and trauma as well as the need of vengeance yet it seeps out in many ways which makes him human, fallible and deserving of love and justice like everyone else.
Flash was also a good person.
This is why the animated series is my favorite take on the character. He's not just the vengeance against criminals, he's also compassionate towards the weak.
RIP Kevin Conroy man
a lot of people seem to just think of batman as the ultimate badass and super dark and a violent sociopath and completely forget his kindness as do many of the adaptations
Bruh THANK YOU Batman is a beast a warrior a super smart guy and also one of the softest guys in DC, so many many times he’s helped villains while getting shot by them, but so many people in Batman shows suffer from ptsd, drug addiction, other mental illness (joker) , but we only focus on his big bads but so many of his minor rouges are impactful in Batman’s story as a hero and personally I think they stay minor because they want the help Batman gives them kinda like how flash helped that one villain who needed meds and when he was off them he had a villain persona
What the live action can never capture is bruce/bats passion for taking care of broken/scared/abused children and showing them a better choice
man i almost teared up because of this. batman's compassionate moments really need to be talked about more.
Nah bruh I'm crying in the club rn 🥺
The compassion and humanity is the reason I consider Pattinsons Batman to be the best on screen version of the character.
Best live action BAtman scne of all time: Pattinson's lighting the flare to lead the children out of the darkness and danger at the end. A scene of a True Batman.
Rest In Peace, thanks for memories Kevin 🥹
Compassion is the important aspect of Batman that filmmakers like Synder always forget about.
Snyder's version of Batman does not have much space to work on because it focuses on 1.) Is Superman a danger to mankind; and 2.) There is a bigger threat to come that will yet again may endanger the world. If you watched Batman V Superman, you can see Bruce Wayne holding the little girl as she is scared in the middle of debris while kryptonians battle in the city.
Although not Snyders movie, suicide squad shows batmans human side when attempts to take Lawton in peacefully because he is with his daughter
I mean sprinkles of his compassion were there.
In the beginning scene where he rushed into the destruction to save his people
And we see that kinder side more in suicide squad and justice League after Superman reminds him what he should fight for
I guess you didn't watch the Snyder Cut
@@BoTheJo I did. Your point?
I had to come back this video to say it. RIP Kevin Conroy the Batman, he was and is and will forever be my Batman his voice is was so compelling he brought life to Batman in ways what will never be matched and will never be topped Kevin was such a nice person I wish I could of met him he understood Batman like no over and made the character feel alive human and yes compassionate. Hearing Kevin passed fucking hurt and I know that he will be missed dearly but his Batman will always be the Batman I hear when I read comics, thank you Mr Conroy for everything.
SAGERAIN REALLY CARRYING MY QUARANTINE!
RIP Kevin Conroy, the perfect embodiment of Batman.
They were all ready to kill a child. But Batman NEVER would.
Rest well King
That is batman's whole mission. That no other child should have a crime alley moment.
RIP LEGEND
I love when Batman calls Mr. Freeze by his real name.
RIP Kevin Conroy, for voicing that compassion.
Rest in peace Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman
"And for all that fierce exterior, I've never met anyone who cared as deeply about his fellow man as Bruce Wayne"
-Amanda Waller
"Batman is justice just as much as he is vengeance." This just sums up batman perfectly, the balance between batman, vengeance keeping him going forward (his parents death) and his justice keeping his morals straight, bringing justice to criminals without lethality.
Also it warms my heart so much that batman saw through ace's danger, and her reputation and saw who she really was, a child in need of love.
rip Batman we'll miss you Kevin
“The Warmth of the Cold Hearted Batman” well said.
What I like about the ace death scene is that when she asks him to be with him, he doesn't hesitate. He instantly walks to the swing and sits down.
I know this is going to be a masterpiece
Can you make a why Batman never kills, or Batman’s no killing rule, and talk about how Bruce lost his parents and didn’t want to be like the guy who shot his parents. How not killing is so important about batman, but also tears him apart.
The batman who remembers what it's like to be a child, scared and alone, that's the best batman.
Batman sat and even offer to holding hand with ace until she's dead is really touching my heart
the moment I read the title of the video I knew Ace would be brought up. what a moment..
Batman: "Do you want to know something funny? Even after everything you've done...I would have saved you."
(Joker maniacally laughs, coughing)
Joker: "That actually is...(cough)...pretty funny!"
(Joker slowly dies with a smile on his face. Batman carries him out of the theatre, before laying him to rest on top of a police car.)
Also.
Mr Freeze: Thank you Batman.
Batman: Just fix her and quit this life. You're better than this.
Arkham city's ending
Him and Ace was one of his greatest scenes, he didn’t see a monster or a weapon but a reflection of himself. Someone who had been robbed of their childhood and understands her pain.
This moment with Ace is one of my absolute faves in all Batman media!
this hits different now yo
The thing that's special, is not the Bat that became a legend, it's the Man who makes it.
Batman is actually kinder than superman
He just hides it
That Heart of Ice Ending reminds me of Arkham Origins
The Cold Cold Heart DLC was based on that story, and I love it.
When Batman sat next to Ace on the playground, I suddenly realized that emotionally they are about the same age. Bruce Wayne did not develop emotionally after his parent's murder. That gives the scene of Batman and Ace a certain symmetry.
It’s sad that ace died yes but I think it’s pretty special not many can say they had a heart to heart with Batman and y can see clearly that in the end Batman saw a kid and like he always does he becomes something like a father
"the warmth of the "cold-hearted" batman" - bro u gave me goosebumps
Moments like this are when superhero media is at it’s best. No big showdown with the arch nemesis. No epic battle to save the world. Just a simple heart to heart between the protagonist and someone who needed their help. These are real hero moments.
I think Matt Reeves is leaning more in this direction with his Batman. By the end of the film, Batman realizes that i's not enough for him to be a harbinger to criminals. The citizens of Gotham need a symbol as well, one of hope.
Rip Kevin Conroy the absolute best Batman voice. You will be missed by all of us.
One of my favorite moments of batman taking the time to show compassion is in batman vs robin at the beginning where he took a few minutes to hug the little kids after he freed them from cages
Also from the same batman animated series, there is an episode called "his silicon soul". Such a beautiful episode.
People now in days just see Batman as some angry violent thug when they don't even take the time to understand that there is more character traits to Batman than just being brute.
